Insulation As a homeowner, tenant or business you can achieve great savings on your energy bills and help the environment by increasing the insulation to your property and reducing your carbon emissions. Crestra has built up considerable experience in the energy efficiency arena and offers a number of insulation services to suit your needs.

cavity wall insulation free?...why? Cavity wall insulation is so effective at stopping heat escaping that energy bill savings can payback initial costs within one to two years*.

What is a cavity wall? Modern homes are generally constructed of two masonry

(brick or block) walls, with a cavity of at least 50 mm between them. This was adopted as a standard building practice in the 1920s, before then walls were generally solid, with the

What is cavity wall insulation? Mineral wool insulation is blown into the cavity of a wall. This works by trapping air in its fibres and forms a barrier that

What is loft insulation? If not properly insulated, up to a quarter of a property’s heat can be lost through the roof. To reduce this, mineral wool blankets, often known as quilts, are placed on the floor of the loft space. The recommended depth for mineral wool insulation is 270mm so, even if your loft is already insulated, it may need topping up. Not only are there substantial financial savings, but using less energy also reduces carbon dioxide emissions (CO2): one of the biggest causes of climate change.

retains heat inside the building in winter and in hot summer conditions keeps excessive heat out, promoting year-round comfort. Around a third of all the heat lost in an un-insulated home is lost through the walls.

What are the benefits? The process of having a cavity wall insulated is quite straight forward. The insulation material is blown into the cavity using a machine inserted through the outside brickwork. This creates a little a dust which is cleaned up by the technicians. All injection holes are also filled. Once in place,

Once installed, loft insulation will help conserve the heat in your house, by avoiding heat loss, your house will be warmer for longer. You could save around 800 kg of CO2 and £150 per year.

solid walls? no problem... External/internal wall insulation Solid walls lose even more heat than cavity walls; the only way to reduce this heat loss is to insulate them on the inside or the outside. Crestra is an approved contractor for Walltransform Ltd, (see www.walltransform.co.uk) a company that offers a series of insulation products for solid walls:

Wall-Reform I/II External Wall Insulation System - What is it? Wall-Reform I was developed initially to insulate the seven million un-insulated solid wall properties in the UK. Wall-Reform improves living conditions and associated health problems wherever it is applied, eliminating cold and damp in homes. By reducing the thermal transmittance of the walls, it provides all of the benefits of cavity wall insulation plus it can be applied internally or externally.

What are the benefits? ● ● ●

Improves property appearance ● Provides high level of thermal insulation ● Environmentally friendly Finishes available to match surrounding area ● Crack resistant ● Easy to apply by approved installer Can be used on any substrate ● Long term durability.

Warm-A-Wall - What is it? This technology provides a thermal and acoustic internal wall lining made from recycled polyurethane. It is applied to the wall like wallpaper then skim finished to give it a permanent finish. It can be used on any external wall to increase the insulation value even if cavity wall insulation is fitted.

What are the benefits? It is easy to install, provides a 28% improvement in energy efficiency and helps reduce condensation. It can also be applied to just selected rooms that you use most, reducing installation costs.

Rubbercrete is a new product developed using recycled rubber crumb from used car tyres. The design allows rubber to be incorporated into a plaster mix design enabling it to be applied as a conventional wall plaster or flooring screed. It has acoustic characteristics 63% better than ordinary plaster and is 83% more thermally efficient than ordinary concrete.

Fire barriers Building regulations require that cavities and concealed spaces in the structure or fabric of a building are sub-divided by means of fire-stopping barriers to restrict the hidden spread of smoke and flame.

Tile venting programmes As well as good insulation, buildings need natural ventilation of the roof void to allow some air to flow combating the potentially damaging effects of condensation.

Draft proofing If you can feel a draft coming into a building then it means heat will also be getting out. Draft proofing simply means filling the gaps that are allowing the heat to escape and the cold air in. Common problem areas are vents, doors and windows. A wide range of methods are available to solve the problem, this can involve using a range of seals and brushes. Our technicians will be able to assess your home and advise/install draft proofing devices with minimal mess and upheaval.

Initial costs are typically low but draft proofing problem areas will immediately help energy efficiency, saving 130 kg of CO2 and £25 a year. (Source: Energy Saving Trust)
