The Ashes 2015 The Who, Why & How of the greatest battle in cricket
A guide for ladies that love
Cricket, Cricketers & Champagne
Crickette
Pour A Glass Finally the Ashes are back! Having said that cricket has been prominent in the news for a while now, and not always for the right reasons. Anyway Crickette is also back to celebrate the Ashes and I hope you enjoy this updated Ashes guide. What is Crickette? Crickette is not a cricket expert, Crickette is an online blog for fans of cricket, the players and our own sport of watching the game with a drink in hand. We like to tweet, post pictures, source silly quotes and we would love to see as many like minded people join us through the Ashes and beyond Why not join us for a summer of cricket, cricketer and champagne? Send us your photos all summer long, where are you watching? who are you watching? and what are you drinking? It’s all important to us!

What?
What is
The Ashes? The Lowdown The Ashes has been played since 1882 and alternates between being hosted in England and Australia. The return leg down under gives the British a great excuse for a Christmas abroad and a BBQ on the beach for Christmas dinner. The Ashes have gained an increased following in recent years with celebrities taking to the stands and commentary boxes. These are joined by the regulars that we love to spot such as the fabulous Stephen Fry. Fun Fact: The Urn is given to the winners as a gift rather than a trophy. The Urn is rumoured to contain the ashes of a cricket ball that was presented to the England captain by a group of Melbourne women - given after a sporting obituary reading: ‘English cricket had died’ and ‘the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia’. Test Matches: maximum of 5 days each T20 Match: 20 overs per side One Day Internationals: 50 overs per side

Who are
England? Alastair Cook Captain & Batsman
Ali Cook will lead the England Test team in 2015. His stance as opening batsman has built him 9000 runs in test cricket, which he will be looking to build upon over the 5 tests. Our favourite ‘Cook’ memory has to be his wedding where his dog also attended the very ‘country’ affair.

Who are
Australia? Michael Clarke Captain & Batsman
Michael Clarke has had a successful captaincy run for Australia and is respected the world over. Clarke touched the heart of every cricket fan when he publicly dealt with the passing of his great friend Phil Hughes and brought cricket together in solidarity. He will be fighting to have those Ashes in Australian hands until he retires.

Who are
The Commentators?
Sky Sports Ashes HD Sky Sports can be hard to ignore during the Ashes, and why not when they have the comedy timings of David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd, the drinking masterclasses of Ian ‘Beefy’ Botham and the Mr Burns like face of Nasser Hussain. Each member of the commentary team brings their own styleof humour to the mic, not to mention that they are followed after every day’s play by Bob Willis giving his honest and hilarious views on The Verdict.

Test Match Special Courtesy of BBC Radio 5 Live, TMS continues to bring us the incredibly posh and critical tones of Blowers accompanied by Aggers and a whole host of ex players and seemingly any celebrity they can find in the stands that day. Fantastic availability so you can tune in anywhere.
Channel 5 Terrestrial television used to be home to test match cricket until Sky came along. Channel 5 offer us a glimpse of ‘free’ viewing via a nightly round up full of highlights, statistics and that old fox Mark Nicholas. Great for catching up if you missed the days play, or just want to relive the best bits.
----------------------------
Other Commentary is available Not all fans enjoy the musings of some of the game’s biggest ex-players on the choices above and more and more ‘alternative’ commentary collectives are surfacing to meet the needs of others. Take a look at Test Match Sofa and Guerilla Cricket for alternative musings. And there’s always Twitter for ball by ball commentary, critiques and curses along the way.

Moments As cricket fans we tend to come up with our own rituals whilst watching the game unfold. Whoever you speak to will undoubtedly mention food and/or drink. A cricket tea for the players can be very elaborate or a huge picnic of items, so here are a few ideas for nourishment and beverages during your viewing time.
Cricket Menu Smoked Salmon Finger Sandwiches A Homemade Afternoon Tea Microwave Popcorn Any type of homemade cake with many layers and butter cream Cupcakes decorated in a cricket theme or with cricketer faces on sugar paper For those on a diet: a selection of vegetable crudites and beetroot crisps

Cocktails We can’t deny that our favourite way to watch the cricket is with a drink in hand. Here’s some of our suggestions for appropriate beverages
Cricket Cocktails The WG Grace: Pimms (the official drink of cricket) with chopped fruit & a sprig of mint The Rob Key: A well chilled cider with plenty of ice The Flintoff: A bottle of lager The Henry Gayle: A run cocktail of your choice in a suitable glass with a plastic monkey & an umbrella The Geoffrey: A good quality fizz chilled perfectly in the fridge served in a tall champage glass & a drop of Chambord The Rampra ‘cash’: For those on a budget: spruce up a cheap cava with a dash of orange juice
