1 | PREMIER CRICKET AWARDS – SEASON 2018-19

WELCOME What a big season it has been! The Premier Cricket Awards are a great opportunity to get together and celebrate the achievements of our best performed players, clubs and officials in men’s and women’s cricket over the course of the summer. I’d like to congratulate tonight’s winners of the Jack Ryder medal and Una Paisley medal. It is a honour to be a recipient and you follow in the footsteps of some of the great names in Victorian cricket. As the pathway to the state’s elite cricket teams, we were delighted to again see a number of Premier Cricket players make their Victorian debuts over the course of the season. Victoria’s on-field performance has been outstanding and that is something everyone gathered this evening should be proud of. I’d also like to thank all the volunteers at all our Premier Clubs for the many, many hours invested in their teams this season. What we see on the field is not possible without the fantastic network of support behind the scenes.

WELCOME TO THE 2018-19 PREMIER CRICKET AWARDS.

The 2018-19 season has been one to remember and I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of everyone at Cricket Victoria to thank you and congratulate all of our award winners. Enjoy tonight and I look forward to seeing you all again next season.

ANDREW INGLETON Chief Executive Officer Cricket Victoria PREMIER CRICKET AWARDS – SEASON 2018-19 | 2

UNA PAISLEY MEDAL AMY YATES HAS WON THE 2018-19 UNA PAISLEY MEDAL.

Melbourne’s Amy Yates has won the Una Paisley Medal in season 2018-19. Yates polled 43 votes to comfortably win the award by 18 votes ahead of Prahran’s Jess Duffin (who played ½ a season due to WNCL, WBBL and AFLW commitments) and Box Hill’s Rebecca Carter. The consistent form shown by Amy saw her poll enough votes across the season to have an unassailable 12-vote lead with one round to go, thereby securing the medal for the first time. Prahran skipper Emma Inglis finished in third position a further 1 vote behind teammate Duffin and Box Hill’s Carter. Yates played in 13 matches across the season and finished with 481 runs @ 40.08, 32 wickets @ 9.03 (best bowling 4/20 vs Ringwood in Round 13) and 1 catch. Amy’s consistency across these games saw her regularly involved in matches with bat and ball and the award has shown her form across the season, with a maiden century (173*) against Ringwood in Round 6, along with another 5 scores between 33 and 55 across the season showing her batting skills, while 8 hauls of 3 or more wickets has shown her consistency with the ball. Yates also represented Victoria Country at the Australian Country Cricket Championships this summer.

5 | PREMIER CRICKET AWARDS – SEASON 2018-19

JACK RYDER MEDAL BRETT FORSYTH HAS WON THE 2018-19 JACK RYDER MEDAL.

Dandenong opening batsman Brett Forsyth has won the 2018-19 Jack Ryder Medal. Forsyth polled 35 votes to win by 2 from Casey-South Melbourne’s English Captain-Coach Luke Wells, with Footscray’s ‘evergreen’ Dean Russ another 3 votes behind in 3rd place. Forsyth had a stellar season with the willow, finishing the Home & Away season with 962 runs @ 80.17 and 7 catches. During the season, Forsyth notched 3 centuries (all unbeaten innings) and 6 x 50’s, with centuries scored in Rounds 5 (146* vs Monash Tigers), 13 (100* vs Greenvale Kangaroos) and 14 (168* vs Footscray). With Luke Wells having to return to England for County commitments with Sussex after Round 14, Forsyth therefore had a 7-vote break on the next contender Dean Russ with 1 round to play. Forsyth’s victory makes him the first Dandenong player to ever win the Jack Ryder Medal in the club’s history in Victorian Premier Cricket.

UMPIRING RECOGNITION AWARD COLIN HALL This season’s Umpire Recognition Award recipient is Colin Hall. Colin joined the premier Cricket Umpires Panel at the beginning of the 1997/98 season. In the twenty years since, he has umpired 372 matches, comprising 27 in 1st XI, 89 in 2nd XI, 139 in 3rd XI, 46 in 4th XI and 71 in Womens Premier Cricket. Colin was presented with Cap # 389 to recognise his place in the history and heritage of First XI Premier Cricket umpires. Colin has been of great support and inspiration to his fellow umpires over a long period of time, mentoring some of the highest performing umpires to have stood in Premier Cricket. This season, he stepped up to the role of ‘Lead Mentor’ which involved implementing a new system of self and peer assessments, as well as mentor reports and feedback. He did this with great enthusiasm and certainly led by example both on and off the field. Please join with me in congratulating and recognising Colin’s achievements over twenty years in Premier Cricket.

UMPIRE MILESTONES Congratulations to the following umpires who reached milestones during the 2018-19 season, a fantastic achievement by all.
