WELCOME TO THE 2021—2022

PREMIER CRICKET AWARDS

I’d like to congratulate everyone in Premier Cricket for successfully delivering what has proven to be another exciting season. I’d like to thank all the players, coaches, administrators and volunteers for the time and effort they put into every season – particularly given pandemic challenges on club preparation during 2021.

I’d also like to congratulate tonight’s winners of the Jack Ryder Medal and Una Paisley Medal. It is a wonderful honour to be a recipient of these awards and you follow in the footsteps of some of the great names in Victorian cricket.

Thank you to all the players and clubs who worked closely with the Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades to allow the BBL to go ahead as scheduled.

As the pathway to the state’s elite cricket teams, we were delighted to see several Premier Cricket players make their Victorian and W/BBL debuts over the course of the season.

On behalf of everyone at Cricket Victoria, thank you and congratulations to all our award winners.

The COVID challenges and player impacts during the men’s BBL season tested our player depth like never before.

NICK CUMMINS

COMMUNITY CRICKET AWARDS PREMIER CLUB OF THE YEAR This award seeks to recognise a Premier Cricket Club that has excelled at being the conduit between high performance and community. A club that is a beacon in the community for talented cricketers, no matter their gender or background. WINNER

RINGWOOD CRICKET CLUB With the ongoing COVID impacts now entering the second season, the community as a whole faces ongoing daily challenges. Whilst everyone handles this challenge in different ways the club sees itself as a family and has a role to play in everyone’s health and wellbeing. As part of this focus, the club has players enrolled in a 6 month/8 Session SALT [Sport & Life Training] Program focussed on ‘Building a Heart with Club’, looking to further enhance a great club to ensure it is courageous, respectful, resilient & caring in these trying times. The program commenced in October and finishes in April. The club has also been focussed on its playing group taking leadership and coaching roles across local clubs and representative teams to drive strong levels of engagement across the community.

RUNNER UP

GEELONG CRICKET CLUB Geelong Cricket Club has established a development squad for junior female players under the age of 15 bringing together players from regional Victoria as well as established a coaching development program mentoring coaches of female cricket across the Geelong, greater South-West region & Mt Gambier. Geelong Cricket Club have also provided female coaches to the YPL, to local associations (GCA & Wimmera) for the Western Shield & for the Woolworths Blaster program for girls in the Geelong region. They’ve established a development team in the MCC Club XI for past players to mentor developing male and female players. RUNNER UP

MELBOURNE UNIVERSITY CC Melbourne University Cricket Club has long been a supporter of minority migrant communities, in particular, recently arrived refugees. Their player Fawad Ahmed is the most recognised beneficiary of this support. Fawad came to MUCC as an asylum seeker struggling to remain in Australia. MUCC was able to support Fawad’s case, with the help of Cricket Australia, to eventually have the Federal Immigration Minister approve his permanent residency of Australia. Within 2 years Fawad played for Australia. More recently, they have helped recently arrived Afghan players and families.
