the man that started it all …Nick Jones Nick Jones founded Soho House in 1995, to cater for the film and TV industry in London. The private members’ club was born when the building above Nick’s brasserie, Café Boheme became available, and it is now a hub for creative types offering great food and drink in an informal setting. The club’s reputation spread and as did Nick’s footprints to include: Babington House and the first Cowshed Spa - 1998 Electric House , Notting Hill - 2001 Soho House New York, USA - 2003 High Road House Chiswick - 2006 Shoreditch House, East London - 2007 Dean Street Townhouse, Soho - 2009

where it all started... In 1998 Nick purchased the Babington House estate, which is set on 18 acres of land in Somerset, England with the intention to create a home-away-from-home venue offering exquisite food, luxury accommodation and breath-taking views of the English countryside.
In addition to various athletic facilities, charming treatment rooms were created in the small, formerly working, cow shed. You might think a cow shed is an unlikely place to find an array of bath, body and skincare products but that's exactly where ours were born – in the original Cowshed Spa at Babington House, Somerset in 1998. The idea to create the Cowshed product range came about when sourcing natural products to use in the house rooms and spa. No products on the market seemed to fit the Soho House personality, so a custom range was created‌
the inspiration behind COWSHED The beautiful Victorian Walled Garden was the inspiration for the fragrances and ‘moods’ of the product range. In fact, there’s still a little bit of Babington in every single bottle in the form of a special herbal infusion sourced from within its Walled Gardens.
Richard Howard was brought on as the fragrancier for Cowshed products. As one of the first people to import pure essential oils, he is considered a guru on the subject and is passionate about natural fragrance. He was inspired by the Walled Garden and started harvesting lavender from the grounds.

They are primarily used for their anti-bacterial and anti-fungicidal properties. • Petrolatum: chemical products derived from petroleum that lock in moisture to make the skin feel smooth and hydrated. • Sulphates (SLS/SLES) : low cost foaming agent found in cleansers and shampoos • Synthetic fragrances /dyes: usually derived from petrochemicals, they smell the part without the therapeutic benefits. • Phthalates: chemicals that increase a products stiffness i.e. nail varnish and hairspray. They are often hidden on the labels under ‘parfum’. • Triclosan: legally registered as a pesticide by the US government, it is used in products to provide microbial resistance. • GMO’s: genetically modified organisms (plants or animals). what are essential oils? Highly concentrated aromatic liquid containing volatile, aroma compounds extracted from: • Flowers • Seeds • Grasses • Barks

the difference between pure and synthetic oils Pure Essential Oils produce their effects by the relationships and synergy of compounds. Synthetic Oils lack the naturally occurring therapeutic benefits of pure essential oils. They are generated for cosmetic scent. In addition to having no therapeutic benefits, manufacturing them is also an energy drain and a very wasteful procedure.
The benefit of using Pure Essential Oils? Oils are either absorbed in the skin and enter the blood stream or when diluted in a carrier oil and used for massage they are easily absorbed – this is not possible with synthetic oils. • •
Physical Healing Properties: Enhanced blood circulation; relief of muscular fatigue; boosting removal of residual toxins; lymphatic drainage; promotion of deep sleep. what keeps our products fresh? To prevent bacteria growth, we choose to use natural preservatives : • Essential Oils: Cedar, clove, frankincense and myrrh have been used since Egyptian times to help preserve...dead bodies! •Natural: substances i.e. honey, sugar and salt. •Anti-oxidants: not only great for skin but things like Vitamin A,C & E, rosemary, cranberry seed and grapefruit all stop oxidation and help extend our product’s shelf life. •Water is often the culprit for a product going ‘off’. So, we’ve removed as much water as possible from our formulations and replace with ingredients like Aloe Vera. • Instead of Petrolatum, we use oils, waxes like Jojoba, Shea Butter and Beeswax as they soften and hydrate and have the added benefits of Vitamin E and fatty acids and minerals. •Instead of Sulphates, we use soapwort to cleanse the skin and maintain the PH balance without stripping it of natural oils. •Our products use a combination of pure essential oils, botanical actives, and natural fragrance which have a 30 month shelf life and a 12 to 24 month expiry date from opening.
