WASSILY

KANDINSKY

1866 - 1944

• WASSILY KANDINSKY WAS A RUSSIAN-FRENCH PAINTER. • HIS STYLE OF PAINTING BELONGED TO EXPRESSIONISM, AND HE SOMETIMES INCLUDED SYMBOLISM. • HE WAS INSPIRED BY MUSIC. • HE BELIEVED EACH COLOUR HAS ITS OWN LANGUAGE AND EXPRESSION, AND EACH COLOUR HAS A SOUL. • KANDINSKY TRIED TO CONVERT MUSICAL COMPOSITIONS INTO PAINTINGS. • HE HEAR COLOURS IN MUSIC AND HE SAW MUSIC IN COLOURS.

IN OUR ART CLASS, K5 STUDENTS STUDIED THIS PAINTING OF KANDINSKY:

“SQUARES WITH CONCENTRIC CIRCLES”

THEY DID

A PAINTING BASED ON KANDINSKY’S PAINTING WHILE LISTENING TO MUSIC.

FIRST THEY COVERED EACH SQUARE WITH DIFFERENT COLOURS, USING WATERCOLORS. AFTERWARS THEY DID 12 DIFFERENT CONCENTRIC CIRCLES IN EACH SQUARE, MIXING AND COMBINATING COLOURS, USING TEMPERA.
