SR - 207 Bike Trail-head Park Palatka-St.Augustine, Florida Project Name: TRAILHEAD PARK
The purpose of this project is to create a trail-head along the exisiting Palatka-St. Augustine Bike Trail. This trail is within the rails-to-trails program and follows the previous railroad line of the East Coast Railway system. These lands were once inhabited by the Timucuan Indian Tribe. The Timucuan lived off the St. Johns River and were semi-agricultural growing maize, beans, squash and various vegetables but primarily STORMWATER - WET DETENTION lived offTREATMENT of seafood. They created mounds from piled debris. Canoes were their principle form of transport. Their villages were surrounded by a wall made of wood logs forming a spiral with a small entry. Red face paint was one- WET wayDETENTION to recognize a tribal member. STORMWATER TREATMENT

RENDERING
Multi-use paths meander through the linear park, providing shade and seating along the way for users to leisurely enjoy the different parts of the park and soak in nature. Native trees and flowers in purple and yellow provide beauty and also educate users about the native plant species that were once found on the site. Sculptures can be found along the paths that bring the community together through art by local artists and also educate about the Timucua tribe that once lived on these lands. Mounds create a buffer from the road to protect users and also provide a visual and sound barrier from the highway. PLAYGROUND SECTION

Photoshop & SketchUp A Visual Aid The sketchup models I worked on were requested for two different purposes. One to help aid the client visualize the design and the other to help the designer visualize the outcome of the design. The masterplan renderings are the finished masterplans for the marketing boards completed in the usual style of the firm.

University & 12th Urban Redevelopment Gainesville - Florida Gainesville is a city that is growing quickly, the Univesity of Florida being its catalyst. Gainesville will become a technological hub and creator of hundreds of jobs for the state of Florida. Gainesville is going to be the model the rest of the state pulls design guidelines from to create pedestrian friendly communities and accessible public transit systems. The University & 12th intersection is an important one, it is the link between Midtown, Downtown and the University. In its current state it is only used to pass through as it is pedestrian unfriendly and has no sense of place. The site has a lot of potential in terms of location. The issue of comfortability has not caused businesses to fail or hindered people from going to specific destinations. It has the potential to become the corridor that connects Downtown and Midtown, creating a green walkable shopping corridor where one can traverse through multiple modes of transportation. Art district Connection to Downtown Gainesville is a city full of artists and art enthusiasts. Providing a place where artists can make and display their work would add to the spirit and culture of Gainesville. Taking back the street from the cars and creating a comfortable pedestrian oriented space is what it needs to become a place where people want to walk through, to linger and dwell. Bringing back people into the site at all times of the day in the form of multi-use buildings that hold residential, offices and commercial uses will create a site where people can work, live, play and rest whether they live on-site or are coming as visitors.

Zelena Hora Memorial Park Pilgrimage Church - Czech Republic This project was during my time living in Prague in the Czech Republic for a Landscape Architecture study abroad program. The site lies in a town called Zdar located about 3 hours from Prague. The Zelena Hora church is a UNESCO site and thus historical sensitivity was crucial to the project. The objective of the project was to redesign the landscape surrounding the church into a memorial park. The pilgrimage church was turned into a cemetery at one point in it’s history but the city wanted to turn it back to its original purpose.

CONCEPT
NATURE IS OUR CHURCHH Nature brings life. It connects the body and spirit. It houses the dead until the earth and the dead become as one. Movement through nature brings rejuvination and healing. But this takes time, it is a journey, just as life is also a journey. Nature can bring us mental clarity. Sometimes we desire the comfort of enclosed canopy, sometimes the freedom of a feild where we can feel the sun’s warm kiss on our skin. We come to nature not to lose ourselves, but to find. We know we are not alone. It is here we can feel something greater than ourselves and remeber those we have loved and lost. Nature is our church.
Inspiring Images
A CATHEDRAL OF TREES This space is a natural memorial for the dead. It alludes to the duality of life and death. Nature is outside of any one religion. It is a basic human experience that unifies us all, outside of class, race and religion. Here, nature acts as our church. It is here where we can seek sanctuary and remember those who have lived and died before us. Cathedral-like in scale, divine light shines down from the heavens, illustrating the glory of God. Death is an equilizer. The church is the glory of man, nature is the glory of God
BREATHE OF LIFE These restorative meadows are designed for peaceful meandering. This space has a serene atmosphere that invites our minds to meditation. Views have meditative qualities. Views of the horizon and of the Monastery can be seen. The wind blows from the East, filtered through trees that symbolize a breathe of life; the breathe of the divine. The physical openess and views of the horizon lead to the clearing of a clouded mind, it is here where clarity can be found.
QUIET CONTEMPLATION An axis is created in the classic Baroque style with a terraced water feature that provides a sense of calm and runs through this axis. A reflection pool provokes contemplation. Rows of smaller trees reduce the scale and create a more human scaled space. A cross axis divides the space. There are various resting places that provide for quiet contempla-

tion, in solitude or in the prescence of others. Some with a view, and others in the cover of tree canopy. A council ring can also be found, a symbol of the bond between people and nature. Made from stone, it can endure through time.
This space reflects the history of the architecture, which was built in Gothic/Baroque style. An AXIS was created in the classical Baroque style with a terraced water feature that provides a sense of calm and runs through this axis. Depot Terrace Place Urban Revitalization - Gainesville Thanks to the University of Florida, the once small town of Gainesville is coming into it’s own and transitioning from a hybrid rural-suburban landscape into one of urbanism. The city is taking responsibility for this urban transition with a masterplan called Innovation Square that pushes to redesign the city into one that is pedestrian minded that will expand options for modes of transportation and will create a city in which the pedestrian is at the heart of every design decision.

Depot Central Plaza Depot Terrace Place is a mixed use development that combines the private and public realm to create a walkable community that encourages multi-modal transportation where residents can live, work and play. As an extension of Downtown, it seeks to create a pedestrian centered community that meets as many needs as possible within close walking distance. It also seeks to complement the Park and create a low impact urbanized community that activates the streets, brings people together and increases quality of life.

Site Analysis
Research Based Design Formerly the RTS campus headquarters, the site is located south of Downtown Gainesville and adjacent to the new multimillion dollar Depot Park. The site inventory, analysis and synthesis heavily informed the design as the lack of pedestrian access and public transportation and zoning led to the design of a multi-use neighborhood centered on the idea of circulation, connectivity, complete streets and views.

In this project, we were given the task to analyze a type of architecture, either curvilinear or rectilinear. The home I chose is a modern Japanese house with rectilinear architecture. Through analysis of the form and origin of the building, I created a response through the use of rectilinear geometry that models the form of the building and through the use of Japanese style plantings and materials.

Vondelpark- Amsterdam Graphic Exploration Design Communication I and II of our first year as Landscape Architecture students were courses designed to teach us digital graphic ability. We were given one site of a park that was adjacent to a large city and asked to do analysis and exploration of the park network and the city center so as to have experience and better understanding in both a naturalistic and an urban setting. I chose Vondelpark, a park adjacent to Downtown Amsterdam in the Netherlands. I used Photoshop, Auto CAD, Sketch Up and Illustrator to explore these subjects and express my ideas.

The city’s core:
Downtown Amsterdam
To understand how the city of Amsterdam functions, we were asked to choose one urban block and to do a series of analysis. First, I set off to Google Earth to walk around the city, in a matter of speaking. Using Illustrator, I did a series of analysis to understand the density of the building footprint versus green space and to be able to see how the different modes of transportation worked together. Amsterdam has a very large pedestrian and cycling network, adding to the health and charm of the city. I also used illustrator to create a map of the city and it’s network of parks around the city. Vondelpark lies adjacent to the Downtown Amsterdam on the SW corner. It is the largest city park in Amsterdam of a series of city parks. Vondelpark is loved by the people of Amsterdam as well as by tourists. It serves as a physical reprieve from urban life and has many access points, both vehicular and pedestrian. Building Footprint

The park has a quaint gazebo where one can enjoy the beautiful views of the park and the water or just have a nice private space to for locals and tourists to enjoy with one’s friends and families. There is also a playground for children to enjoy.
The Park has winding bike paths the connect all throughout the park and many open spaces and paths for people to enjoy cycling, walking, jogging, roller-skating, dog-walking or just lying in the grass enjoying the sun.
Vondelpark is a public urban park of 120 acres in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is located in the stadsdeel Amsterdam Oud-Zuid, west from the Leidseplein and the Museumplein. The park was founded by a group of Amsterdam citizens that formed a committee to found the public park in 1864. Vondelpark is the largest city park in Amsterdam and has more than 10 million visitors every year. There is also a theater in within the park that gives free concerts.

Cades Wetland Park Urban Circulation Park - Gainesville This site lies adjacent to the University of Florida, next to a church. It is an empty plot of lawn but many people cross through it to speed up their time of travel. Through analysis of the site and watching how people used the site, I decided to create a park that could be used for circulation as well as to create a space where one can dwell, eat their lunch under the canopy of a tree or meander through circular paths of grasses.
33
Illustrative Masterplan There are many points of entry to this park as it is meant to facilitate circulation. It is meant to be a place where one can find solace, or community. To be able to find refuge from modern life and daily stresses. One can come here and appreciate Gainesville’s past through informative plaques one can find around the park. The ponds were made to be interactive, stepping stones crossing through them so one can experience the ponds, a field of grasses to the NW of the site creates a little maze that leads to an intimate space where one can relax under a shady tree.

Concept Diagram
The city’s core: The concept behind this design was to create a tranquil seating and gathering space that captures the essence of the past landscapes and the first civilization who inhabited Gainesville, the Cades Pond Tribes, a people who lived in nature and transformed it, in order to educate and provide a gathering space where people can relax and enjoy themselves. Analysis revealed how people used the site, and paths were made in response to this. To the East of the site lies 13th street, a major roadway that causes much disturbance to the site. I created berms to block the view of the street and to create a barrier from the noise and pollution. Through historical research, I discovered that this site used to be a wetland in which the Native Americans used and lived in. And thus, I decided to create an abstract wetland that recalled the sites historical past.

Research In Indonesia Pangkalpinang, Ina. FEB. 22 - MAR. 03, 2016
I was one of 7 landscape architecture students at the University of Florida chosen to participate in a two week design research project held for the government of Pangkalpinang, Indonesia. The project consisted of 3 areas for potential improvement tackled by 3 studios from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), with UF’s assistance. The areas are a large property in the Central Business District, the connectivity of main thorough-way, Sudirman Street, and Kacang Pedang, a retention lake further from the CBD. On this project, I contributed to a master planning and visioning effort for the city of Pangkalpinang. This planning effort resulted in proposals that attempt to mitigate the effects of flooding and that proposes initiatives for rehabilitating sensitive environmental areas that have been impacted by mining. The site consisted of a retention lake, with a government property northwest of the lake and an infill reclamation area on the east. 12 Heroes Bridge runs through the lake. The city desired a design that will boost TOURISM, ACTIVITY, and provide a comfortable experience for locals and guests.
