HEART AND BRAIN: THE ROLE OF THE MAIN ORGANS THAT KEEP US IN MOTION “Both our heart and brain need us to act according to what they need. Understanding that cardiovascular diseases and mental health problems are not restricted to other people and can affect us as well is the first step. We need to realise that we have to take care of ourselves in order to be able to help others.” Hearts Team

TAKE A </BR> TO THINK ABOUT IT. The end of September and the start of October mark two special occasions for our Hearts Team, related to the most important organs in the human body – the heart and the brain. As Sara Pereira, our Queen of Hearts, explains, the team could not let these dates go by without making sure they raised awareness on some subjects that are often forgotten. The MIM (Myself In Motion), an internal project, will have a formidable agenda to celebrate these dates.

WE USE THE <3 TO MAKE BETTER CHOICES. On 29th September, people around the world will be focusing their attention on their blood-pumping engine thanks to World Heart Day, a global awareness date to inform people about cardiovascular wellness and its importance. “Have you been taking good care of your heart?” will be the main question for the day.” Among other things, CTW employees will be able to learn the warning signs letting them know that their heart is probably in need of a behavioural change and how to assess cardiovascular function step by step. The experts in charge will teach them how to fuel their heart with healthy food and exercise in order to ensure their heart is pumping to the beat.

WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH “A recent index of 301 diseases found that these kinds of problems are one of the main causes of the overall disease burden worldwide.” World Mental Health Day is on 10th October, so this topic comes at the right time: while some of us suffered from the isolation triggered by the pandemic, the Hearts and Happiness teams came to a conclusion – it’s more important than ever to discuss our mental health. And this is also why, at CTW, we’re making sure that the entire month of October will be filled with activities to shed light on this issue, which can affect anyone, at any time.
