Dear Friends, The word CROSSROADS implies an invitation to a journey, to imagine the future, an opportunity to explore and leave behind old habits and transcend frontiers. In this spirit we have gathered 50 galleries carefully selected by a team of renowned curators, and engaged in dialogues across cultures, geographies, history, social and political realities, and aesthetics. CROSSROADS is a multicultural art fair in its essence, offering the highest quality modern and contemporary art by established and emerging artists from a multitude of backgrounds and generations, who share a desire for breaking with the status quo. We are pleased to launch CROSSROADS at the Old Truman Brewery in London, the most multicultural of cities. We want to thank our exhibiting galleries, our Sponsors, the Artistic Committee, the collectors in our Host Committee, our dedicated team and volunteers, and most importantly you, our visitors. We hope that you enjoy the art and encourage you to immerse yourselves in the CROSSROADS experience. With all good wishes,

SELECTED CURATORIAL PROJECTS
readingroomincolour, an installation by Franklin Evans His work is influenced by the architecture of the space, inspiring the form and space that he, in turn, presents to the viewer to engage with. Evans, who trained as a painter, is interested in materiality and incorporating paintings into an environment. His immersive works are built from amassed art supplies and materials found in his studio space—including artists’ tape adhered to the walls, floor and ceiling, bubble wrap, old newsprint, un-stretched canvases and press releases from gallery exhibitions.
Years by Diango Hernández Cuban artist Diango Hernández, who has exhibited at MOMA, Hayward Gallery and Venice Biennale amongst others, presents one of the most historically relevant installations, courtesy of FL Federico Luger Gallery, Milan. “Years” is a 14 meters long wall made of a numerical representation of the years 1959 to 2008 in rusted steel. The years mark the beginning to the end of Fidel Castro’s government. The piece has been shown in “Haus der Kunst”, Munich; “Mart Museum”, Rovereto, Italy and MOSTYN, Wales.

An on-site project curated by Fortunata Calabro dedicated to the refugee crisis, with works by Juan delGado, a socially engaged artist based in London. delGado has worked extensively on this subject since long before it attained the current media attention. He travelled to Greece, Macedonia, and Calais to record the journeys taken by different refugees, capturing the places that these have passed through. While the privileged scene of an art fair seems an unlikely place to debate such a sensitive subject, through this project, CROSSROADS contributes to create further awareness on the refugee problem, enabling dialogue and discussions among artists and the public. All profits will be donated to Islington Centre - Refugee and Migrants (London). The project is supported by Counterpoints Arts (London). JUAN DELGADO, Evening Impasse, Photography

Let’s be ironic!
E 01/E 02
Curated by Eva Ruiz and Eva Mansergas, this original exhibit explores the works from the Servais Family Collection by artists who use irony as a tool to arouse new sentiments in their audience. Elmgreen & Dragset approach their socio-political subjects with wit, whilst Carlos Aires addresses the universal theme of disillusionment with sarcasm. The most direct form of irony can be seen in Meyer Peter’s work: a wooden cane carries the logotype of a famous brand of sports footwear followed by the slogan “Just do it.” The Cuban artist Adrian Melis, approaches Spain’s turbulent political situation through a satiric meme of the Spanish Parliament. The irony shown by a rabbit’s tail presented as a trophy, never ceases to amuse. GHYSLAIN BERTHOLON - Troché, lièvre, 42x32 cm
The Middle Field
G 21
The curatorial team formed by Bruno Leitão and Marta Ramos-Yzquierdo presents The Middle Field. A number of international independent institutions - Gasworks (London), VideoBrasil (São Paulo), VAN VideoArt Network (Lagos, Nigeria) and Bar Project (Barcelona) - will offer a perspective on the video creation and video artists that are shown in their venues. Each invited institution will schedule a selection of videos as a one-day programme in a loop screening within the fair. The Middle Field is a meeting point for discussions throughout the event focusing on the role of the exhibitions and their relevance for video art creation.

Sign up at the VIP desk or at our website.
CROSSROADS Design Manuel Díaz Cebrian brings a selection of objects, carpets and lighting installations to CROSSROADS Design inspired by Nature, its colours, organic shapes and textures. Among them are the intricate arrangements of leaves, petals and flowers in brass and bronze by India based The Design Foundry. Giant insects invade Noemi Kiss’s carpets, alongside geometrical light installations and objects by Arantxa Ximena Rodríguez. Julio Martínez Barreneche‘s impressive sculptures are made of basalt with natural pigments
Ateliê Alê An alternative art-space located in São Paulo, with the aim to offer a laboratory for artistic and curatorial experimentation, providing interaction between artists, curators and the public, through talks, courses and workshops, relating to what is most current in art today. They will present artists that have participated in their projects, including Project LAB570, Projeto Portão (Gate Project) and Art in Residence Programme.
