WELCOME Dear Colleagues, Thank you for taking some time to peruse Crossway’s latest Academic Catalog. We publish resources aimed at edifying, encouraging, and equipping the church and the academy. And the whole purpose of this catalog is to help you locate resources that might serve your needs. We hope you find the layout and arrangement helpful. We begin with our featured titles—John Piper’s work on the selfauthenticating nature of Scripture, Piper’s Collected Works, John MacArthur’s systematic summary of Christian doctrine, two volumes of biblical-theological introductions to the Old and New Testaments, and a book on Reformation Theology—followed by books cataloged by theology, history and culture, and biblical studies. The titles you will find in these sections range from Christology to complementarianism, from Anglicanism to why the Reformation still matters, from the nature of conscience to the love of God, from biblical theology to biography. And be sure not to miss the second half of the catalog devoted to the ESV Bible. In addition to our study Bibles, we have several options to help students further engage with God’s Word: Bibles without numbers or footnotes, custom Compact Bibles, the Crossway ESV Bible Atlas, and Bibles that present both the Hebrew Old Testament (BHS) and the Greek New Testament (NA28) in conjunction with the English Standard Version (ESV). Don’t forget that you can request a free copy of any of our books, provided certain conditions are met, as you consider your textbook selections. Please

How the Christian Scriptures Reveal Their Complete Truthfulness

Throughout the centuries, Christians have declared the

for how Christians can know this is true? In this book, best-selling author John Piper makes the exegetical case for the divine authority of the Bible. Exploring Scripture’s own witness about itself from Genesis to Revelation, and Jonathan Edwards, and the Bible’s unparalleled ability to showcase God’s peculiar glory manifested in Christ, Piper lays a solid foundation for the unique “selfauthenticating” nature of the Bible that confirms its complete truthfulness. “Part apologetics, part church history, part almost lyrical poetry, Piper’s book should inspire every reader back to the Bible, to its core and to the Jesus that it reveals who loves us beyond measure despite all that we are and do— more than enough reason for being his disciples.”

A BIBLICAL-THEOLOGICAL INTRODUCTION TO THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS Editors: Miles V. Van Pelt (Old Testament) | Michael J. Kruger (New Testament) In order to effectively teach the Bible, preachers and teachers must see it as one cohesive story, tied together by the good news about Israel’s coming Messiah—promised from the beginning and realized in Jesus Christ. Covering each book in both the Old and New Testaments, these volumes provide an introduction to the Bible from a redemptive-historical perspective. Featuring expositional contributions from twenty-one respected evangelical scholars, including Richard P. Belcher Jr., Mark D. Futato, Michael J. Glodo, John D. Currid, Simon J. Kistemaker, Charles E. Hill, Daniel C. Timmer, Robert J. Cara, Guy Prentiss Waters, and William B. Barcley, these gospel-centered introductions to the books of the Bible are designed to help readers more effectively teach Scripture through the lens of God’s plan to redeem the world through Jesus Christ. The New Testament volume includes articles written on key questions about the Synoptic problem, the canon, textual criticism, and the New Testament’s use of the Old Testament. Both volumes include a foreword written by J. Ligon Duncan III.
“For expository preachers and teachers of the Bible, this is truly a gold mine. With this volume, no preacher should ever feel that preaching Christ from the Old Testament is too hard or too speculative.” GRAEME GOLDSWORTHY, Former Lecturer in Old Testament, Biblical Theology, and Hermeneutics, Moore Theological College

GOD THE SON INCARNATE The Doctrine of Christ [Series: Foundations of Evangelical Theology] Jesus Christ stands at the center of the Christian faith. Thus, Christology remains a central doctrine for believers today. To understand Christ correctly is to understand the very heart of God, God’s Word, and the gospel. Written by leading evangelical theologian Stephen J. Wellum, this new addition to the Foundations of Evangelical Theology series explains epistemological, biblical, and ecclesiological warrants for what we know about the second member of the Godhead, articulating a clear Christology for the church today—concluding that Jesus Christ is God the Son incarnate, both fully divine and fully human. “FREE GRACE” THEOLOGY 5 Ways It Diminishes the Gospel What does real, saving faith actually entail? The New Testament repeatedly emphasizes the need for repentance from sin and accompanying good works as evidence of true belief. However, as theologian Wayne Grudem argues in this book, the teachings of the Free Grace movement—a movement that denies that good works need to be present in the life of the justified

Offering numerous citations from the works of key leaders within the movement, Grudem raises five biblical concerns related to the Free Grace movement and critiques its central teachings from Scripture and historic Protestantism. THE LORDSHIP OF CHRIST Serving Our Savior All of the Time, in All of Life, with All of Our Heart The Bible has a radical, earthshaking message about Jesus Christ. It says that he is not merely a human being or famous religious teacher, but the Lord of the universe. The truth of this message has profound implications for every sphere of life, including religion, politics, science, art, education, and more. Poythress unpacks these implications, drawing on insights stemming from the Protestant Reformation and the thought of Abraham Kuyper, and helps readers see how the authority of Christ is foundational for every field of study. WHY THE REFORMATION STILL MATTERS Five hundred years after the beginning of the Protestant Reformation, many people—even those within Protestant churches—view it as the conflict of a bygone era about irrelevant issues. But do the doctrines so vigorously defended by the Reformers still matter today? In this accessible primer on Reformation theology and practice, theologians and historians Michael Reeves and Tim Chester

explore the contemporary relevance of eleven key questions raised by the Reformers, including “How can we get God’s approval?” “How can we overcome sin in our lives?” and “Why do we take bread and wine at the Lord’s Table?” A rediscovery of the biblical answers to these fundamental questions has the potential to renew and reinvigorate evangelical churches with the truth of God’s Word. CONSCIENCE What It Is, How to Train It, and Loving Those Who Differ [Foreword by D. A. Carson] There is an increasing number of divisive issues in our world and the church today, regarding marriage, music, abortion, technology, and more. Although rarely discussed when navigating such difficult topics, the conscience is a gift that God has given to align our wills with his. Examining all thirty times conscience occurs in the New Testament, Andrew Naselli, a New Testament scholar, and J. D. Crowley, a veteran missionary, introduce readers to this largely neglected topic, helping them calibrate their consciences to the will of God and constructively interact with other Christians who hold different convictions. This book explores the ways in which the conscience impacts our approach to church unity, cross-cultural ministry, and more. Includes a foreword by theologian D. A. Carson. eeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the
From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him. And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, epileptics, and paralytics, and he healed them. And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.
