Rivera Challenges EJC Students to Be Examples on Day of Prayer
ovan John Whyte is the newest Pastor of the Port Morant District of Churches in St. Thomas. His recent appointment which took place on Sabbath April 6, 2013, marked an historic merger of the Port Morant and Bath SDA Churches previously held by Pastor Titmus Morgan, and the John’s Town and Prospect Seventh-day Adventist Churches, previously held by Pastor Holland Thompson.
Pastor Whyte hails from the parish of Kingston. He is a graduate of the Mico University College where he earned a Diploma in Secondary Education (specializing in Linguistics/Language Arts). Following this, he answered the call of God to pursue studies in Theology at Northern Caribbean University, where he graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Theology. Pastor Whyte has served as an Educator, specializing as both a Music and English teacher at the Bridgeport High and Belair High schools respectively. In 2010 he was called to serve the East Jamaica Conference of Seventhday Adventists as an intern Pastor for the North Street District of Churches, Kencot Church, and the Morant Bay District of Churches respectively. He was later appointed Associate Pastor for the New Haven District of Churches. While on internship, Pastor Whyte served the East Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists as Chaplain and Counselor for the New Hope Prep School and the Kingsway High Group of Schools in Kingston. He is a certified Lay Preacher, Musician, Master Guide, Senior Youth Leader and also serves as one of the Chaplains of the Youth Advisory Committee in the Youth Ministries Department of the East Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Whyte is also the Host of the Radio Programme Healthy and Happy aired on NCU 91FM and Power 106FM.
“I am grateful to God for taking me this far by faith,” said Whyte. “I know through His grace and His Indwelling power that I will do all things through Christ who gives me the strength.” Pastor Jovan Whyte expressed his gratitude to the Leadership of the East Jamaica Conference who has expressed confidence in him by giving him this new assignment. “I feel humbled and am grateful that the EJC has seen it fit to allow me to minister in this side of the island at this time. I promise to do all that I can, by God’s grace, to provide proper Pastoral Care and nurturing to the congregations that I’ve been assigned to,” said Whyte. Pastor Whyte has assisted in leading over 300 souls to the Kingdom of God. His personal philosophy is, “Anything for Jesus Let me do.”

abbath June 1, 2013 marks the re-establishing of the Seventh-day Adventist presence at the Hillside Primary school, as members from two Sabbath school units from Seaforth joined forces with the members who reside in Hillside along with the six new members who were born into God’s family in the Big Tent Campaign which ended May 5, 2013. Migration of the original members saw the group dwindled over the years, but neither the dream nor the vision to revive the presence in Hillside had died, hence, this persistent vision gave rise to the Signs of the Time Gospel Campaign which ran from April 7 - May 5, 2013. We are now happy to report that this dream has now become a reality. “This time we are hoping that we can gain a good foundation in this community so that we can build this congregation over here into a church” said Evangelist L.
