DINING Single-seating dinner in the Queens Grill Resaturant – 6.30pm-9pm We stayed in a Queens Grill Penthouse. The cabin was spacious and comfortable. The dining in the Queens Grill was excellent with superb service, the food was the best quality we have tasted anywhere, also the staff were happy to make whatever dish one requested, also, if we did not like anything on the menu they would bring an alternative. 2015 is a very special year for the famous Cunard and Liverpool is the place to be! Cunard will be celebrating their 175th Anniversary, and what better way than to bring the 3 Queens together? The 3 Queens will sail into the River Mersey for a magnificent celebration of the 175th anniversary. On the 24th May 2015 the Queen Mary 2 will arrive at Liverpool Cruise Terminal followed by the Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth the following day, 25th May 2015. The 3 Queens will pull up closely to the Three Graces at the city’s Pier Head, Cunard’s headquarters from 1917 to 1967, making maritime history as this is the first time the ships have met up in Liverpool.

The History of the Famous Transatlantic Route

U

nicorn, the coastal paddle steamer, made Cunard’s first voyage to Halifax to begin the supplementary service to Montreal in May 1840. In July the first ocean-going steamer of the Britannia Class left Liverpool and arrived in Halifax after 12 days and 10 hours of sailing, with an average speed of 8.5 knots, before carrying on to Boston.

Halifax and the 11 days 4 hours homeward. Britannia Class of ships were the first class of ships Cunard had operating the Transatlantic route. The Atlantic steamship service in 1840 was a huge success and by 1845 steamships carried half of the transatlantic saloon passengers with Cunard dominating the trade.

The mean time from Cunard’s quartet from Liverpool to Halifax during 1840 - 1841 was 13 days, 6 hours to

The Historic Recreation

A

lso on the 4th July 2015, exactly 175 years to the day after Cunard established its first Atlantic Crossing, Queen Mary 2 will sail from Liverpool to Halifax to Boston, this is a historic recreation of the original transatlantic crossing back in 1840 by Cunard’s Britannia. This will also mark the first time in over 50 years that passengers can depart from Liverpool to board a Cunard ship and sail to the USA.
