THE BIG 5 AFRICAN SAFARI: 1. African Lion: King of the Savanna, these large cats are excellent hunters but you’re more likely to see one sleeping than hunting. Lions are very social animals, unlike other cats, they live in prides of several females, their young and a couple of males. Lions can reach around 14 years of age. Lions have few natural predators besides the occasional buffalo and rest around 20 hours a day. 2. African Elephant: The African Elephant is the largest mammal in the world. Elephants live in woodlands, forests and desert, spread across 37 countries in Africa. A ban on all ivory trade has helped stabilize the population to around 600,000 in the last decade. Elephants can be over 14 feet tall and 30 feet wide. They drink 30-50 gallons of water every day and are vegetarians.

3. Cape Buffalo: Cape buffalo are large, the adults stand 4-6 feet tall and males weigh in at around 700 kg’s. Even lions don’t dare take a chunk out of this beast. Cape Buffalo are said to be one of Africa’s most dangerous animals, if left alone they are quite placid. They will appear in large herds of upto a thousand individuals. 4. African Leopard: Leopards use trees as observation platforms and for protection, so you have to remember to look up. A leopard’s spots offer excellent camouflage and store their fresh kill up in a tree to avoid it getting poached. An adult male can weigh in at 200 lbs, run at speeds of over 35 mph, and are agile jumpers. A leopards’ only predator is man.

5. Rhino: There are two species of Rhino, Their lips are what distinguish them from one another, a black rhino has a prehensile lip to strip leaves off bushes and a white rhino has a long, flat lip adapted for grazing. An adult white rhino can weigh in at 6,000 lbs. Rhinos are shortsighted, they can live up to 30-50 years.

Cruise Itinerary Escorted Tour

DAY 1: FLY FROM THE UK TO KANSAI (OSAKA) (overnight)

BEGIN YOUR ESCORTED TOUR: DAY 9: NAGOYA, JAPAN Perched on Honshu’s central coast, Nagoya is the fourth largest urban center in Japan. It is also a perfect illustration of the Japanese national story. Japan’s colorful history and love for tradition are embodied in the mighty donjons of Nagoya Castle. The city’s Naka ward is home to museums, pachinko (gambling machine) parlors and the Sakae entertainment district, filled with shops and attractions such as the 42m-tall Sky-Boat Ferris wheel

DAY 2: ARRIVE & TRANSFER TO KYOTO On arrival at Kansai airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Kyoto.

DAY 3: KYOTO • NIJO CASTLE, TEMPLES & PALACES A fascinating old city with modern day trimmings, Kyoto was the imperial capital for over a millennium and much celebrated for it. Thought of as Japan’s most beautiful city, with an elegant and unsurpassed dignity, Kyoto’s ultra rich cultural heritage consists of an exquisite collection of majestic palaces and beautiful temples, and shrines dedicated to ancient deities all set in peaceful pockets of the city. Tour Kyoto today by private coach. Visit Nijo Castle and the Kyoto Imperial Palaca. Later, visit the Kiyomizu Temple and this evening enjoy a traditional Japanese dinner. Dinner & Breakfast Included.

DAY 13: BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA Bullet Train – Day 4

Speak Japanese Eigo hanasemasu ka Do you speak English? えいごをは なせますか

DAY 4: HAKONE • VOLCANIC RIVERS, BULLET TRAINS & PIRATE SHIPS OVER LAKE ASHI Take the bullet train this morning to Mishima. On arrival be met and take a coach to Hakone. This afternoon take a half day tour of Hakone by private coach. Start with a visit to Owakudani and take the Hakone ropeway over molten rock and volcanic rivers. Board one of the Hakone Sightseeing ships, which are full scale replica pirate ships! Sail around the Lake Ashi to view the striking red gateway which leads to the Hakone shrine. You’ll be travelling by cable car over molten rock and volcanic rivers and have spectacular views of the surrounding area. Try one of the eggs that the locals cook in the hot water, which are turned black by the sulphur… The Bullet Train is one of Japan’s innovative technical marvels, which runs on time to the second. However, it’s not just a vehicle for commuters, but an amazing way for tourists to zip from one part of Japan to another. Stay overnight in Hakone. Breakfast included.

Often visited by travellers for its mountain-rooted Buddhist Temples and rugged landscapes, Busan is South Korea’s second-largest city. Founded in 678 AD, the city’s rich history is a joy to explore, from its historical fish markets and traditional cuisine through to its age-old architecture. The second largest city in South Korea, Busan is your gateway to a fascinating land whose culture is a unique amalgam of old and new. Modern high-rise towers dwarf ancient Buddhist temples. The city’s bustling business district offers a stark contrast to the serene grounds of Yongdusan Park. In short, Busan is a microcosm of South Korea, a nation whose startling economic success often obscures one of Asia’s most sophisticated and venerable cultures.

DAY 14: NAGASAKI, JAPAN Considering its vibrant and charming atmosphere, one can’t help but be impressed at Nagasaki’s ability to come back from such devastating trauma. Despite being wonderfully reconstructed and hosting a wealth of cultural treasures, the 1945 bombing is still etched at the forefront of this city’s history and should be explored at one of Nagasaki’s many humbling museums or why not check out the peace memorial shrine which shows respect to bomb victims. Lake Ashi – Day 4

DAY 6: YUDANAKA TO TOKYO

DAY 5: HAKONE TO YUDANAKA This morning, transfer to Fuji by private coach and visit the Fuji Visitor Centre. Next, leave the bustling metropolis behind and travel through spectacular rural countryside into the Japanese Alps. Arrive at Yudanaka home to the famous Jigokudani Monkeys. The hotel is home to natural vistas of mountains and valleys and the rooms come with all modern conveniences. Spend the night in a Japanese Ryokan, and enjoy a Kaiseki meal (a traditional Japanese meal which allows customers to try a selection of traditional Japanese dishes, including vegetable, fish and meat). The meal will be served with rice and usually ends with a bowl of heart-warming miso soup. Dishes are made with local ingredients and will be brought out and placed in a beautiful presentation which will enhance the meal further. Breakfast & Dinner Included.

This morning, transfer to the Jigokudani Monkey Park to meet these adorable creatures, where you will walk through the snowy forests and get face to face with Japan’s snow monkeys, otherwise known as Japanese Macaque . The monkeys completely disregard their human watchers so you can spend hours observing them play, and even swim, in the pool. They are docile creatures and will happily climb around you, whilst bathing in the hot spa. Transfer to Mt Fuji by private coach and take a look around the Fuji Visitor Centre. Long revered by author, artist and proverb alike, Mt Fuji’s perfectly symmetrical cone is the iconic image of Japan. Both Mt Fuji and the spa resort of Hakone are part of the spectacular Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, the perfect spot to soak up some of Japan’s most magnificent scenery. Transfer to Tokyo by private coach for a 2 night stay. Breakfast Included.

Hakone Ropeway – Day 5

DAY 7: TOKYO, DAY AT LEISURE The capital city of the Land of the Rising Sun, cultural hub for all things weird, wonderful and in between. Tokyo is a futuristic frontage of unyielding steel and dazzling lights backed by revered heritage and traditions found amongst quiet backstreets and tranquil temples. Sophisticated and innovative, the world’s largest metropolis is more of a constellation of cities than a colossal one – each district has a distinct, exciting character. Take a day at leisure to explore this incredible city. Breakfast Included What to See: Shibuya Crossing The World’s Busiest Intersection. One of the most famous crossings in the world, up there with New York’s Times Square. There’s something incredible about the entire crossing waiting for a flood of people to cross, merge and then go on their business. Kyoto – Day 2-3
