Statistics Review 2007 - 2017
INTRODUCTION Cruise Iceland is a community of ports and companies serving cruise lines who visit Iceland. It consists of 24 ports and 14 service providers, including tour operators and port agents. The purpose of this report is to present the development of the cruise sector in Iceland for the past 10 years, including data on passengers, calls and turnarounds. The information in this report is based on a collection of data from ports around the island as of December 2017. The report also presents expected numbers for 2018.
Overview 2007 - 2017 Port Calls
Passengers
• Port calls around Iceland have increased by 320% from 193 calls in 2007 to 620 in 2017 or an average of 13,3% pr. year. • Reykjavík, Akureyri and Ísafjörður are the largest ports with 80% of calls • We are expecting a 22,7% in calls by 2018 or 761 calls.
• Total number of passengers has increased at a similar rate or 337% from 119.000 passengers in 2007 to 402.500 passengers in 2017. • Reykjavik, Akureyri and Ísafjörður are the largest ports with 80% of all passengers • Expected number of passengers in 2018 is expected to rise by 13,7% for a total of 458.000 passengers.

*Please note that total Passengers 2007-2017, is the sum of passengers arriving at each port. Cruise ships may sail from one port to another, therefore the amount of passengers are plural counted.

In 2017 number of turnaround passengers decreased by 9% Cruise Iceland anticipates an increase in turnarounds of 11 % or 60 in 2018.

Based on 2016 calls. Húsavík and Grímsey moved from the small to the medium segment. Ísafjörður moved from the medium to large segment. High jumper from 2016 to 2017 was the port of Grímsey who increased their calls from 11 to 31.
Top 3: Most passengers 2017 • Reykjavik is the largest port in Iceland in terms of passengers and experienced a 30% increase in passengers in 2017 compared to 2016. • Port of Grímsey had the highest growth rate of 329% from 1.887 in 2016 to 6.200 passengers in 2017. • Other large growth ports are Hafnarfjörður going from 3.900 passengers to 7.600 or 95% increase, Djúpivogur with 4.900 passengers to 9.360 or 91% and Eskifjörður with 2.200 passengers to 4.100 or 88%

Port of Reykjavik increased by 17,5%, Akureyri by 33,3% and Ísafjörður by 20,3% • The number of calls is expected to increase for all three ports in 2018: Reykjavik by 13,4%, Akureyri by 3,2% and Ísafjörður by 1,6%. • The TOP 3 amount to 353 calls out of 620, accounting for 57% of total calls in 2017.
