Panama Canal Cruises
T HE HI S T O R IC PA N A M A C A N A L It’s one of seafaring’s great rites of passage, and high on every traveler’s list — transiting the mighty locks of the historic Panama Canal. Since the SS Ancon become the first ship to make the transit on August 15, 1914, over a million ships have passed through the canal, averaging between 13,000 and 14,000 vessels a year.
Fascinating Canal Facts: • Spanish explorer Vasco Nuñez de Balboa discovered the narrow Isthmus of Panama in 1513. • America originally planned a canal through Nicaragua. • The first Princess cruise ship to pass through the Panama Canal was Princess Italia® in 1967. • The Canal transports four percent of the world’s trade. • 52 million gallons of fresh water are utilized each time a ship makes a full transit.
The idea for a canal connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and saving sailors nearly 8,000 miles between New York and San Francisco, dates to the early 16th century, when King Charles V of Spain first proposed the idea. It was discussed again during the presidency of Thomas Jefferson, and after a failed late-19th-century French attempt, the Americans, under Theodore Roosevelt, took over in 1904. Construction of a working canal through 51 miles of mountain and jungle was completed a decade later, and stands today as one of the world’s greatest engineering feats.
With Princess, you can join this rich tradition and choose from three different ways to experience this legendary marvel — a partial transit roundtrip from Ft. Lauderdale or Los Angeles, a full transit between Ft. Lauderdale and either Los Angeles or Vancouver, B.C., or our signature 2-day Experience, featuring a full transit between Ft. Lauderdale and Los Angeles and two days in the Canal Zone.
• The Canal is being expanded to handle today’s mega container ships and cruise ships.

City in the Clouds High in the Andes lies one of the world’s greatest attractions, the “Lost City of the Incas” — Machu Picchu. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this timeless marvel dates to the 15th century, possibly built as an estate for the Incan emperor, and sits at nearly 8,000 feet above sea level. After a century, the citadel was mysteriously abandoned at about the time of the Spanish conquest. Today it remains one of the world’s most popular bucket list destinations. Machu Picchu, Peru

Interior double Our most affordable option, the interior stateroom features two twin beds that make up into a queen-size bed.
Wheelchair-accessible staterooms Princess offers a selection of staterooms that provide full wheelchair-turning space. In addition, these staterooms include a roll-in shower equipped with grab bars and a fold-down bench seat, an easy access closet and a writing desk with wheelchair access. Cabins range from approximately 237 to 383 square feet based on stateroom category. Visit princess.com for more details.
Note: Floor plans, amenities and stateroom images represent typical arrangements and may vary by ship. Certain stateroom categories may vary in size and configuration by ship. Square footage varies based on stateroom category and deck location. Stateroom views are considered unobstructed unless noted otherwise. Obstructions do not include certain nautical items like handrails, dividers or ship hardware. For balcony staterooms, the view is determined from the perspective of the balcony railing. Balconies may have either solid steel or glass railings. Upper berth and bed ladder capacities are 250 lbs. Staterooms that can accommodate rollaways have two lower berths and one upper berth, and the staterooms can accommodate a fourth berth as a rollaway bed upon request at time of reservation. There are a limited number of rollaway beds per ship, per voyage. Use of rollaway beds restricts cabin space
