Oceania unveils 2022 world cruise E X C L U S I V E

OCEANIA Cruises has unveiled the details of its 2022 Around the World cruise, set to be its “biggest yet” in the Australian market, VP and GM Jason Worth revealed to Cruise Weekly. The epic journey will take place aboard the recently refurbished Insignia (CW 06 Mar 2019), pictured, which will set sail from the west coast of the US on 06 Jan 2022, visiting 44 countries and calling into 91 ports over 180 days, with guests able to enjoy 100 days of offshore excursions. Cruisers can extend the itinerary to a total of 196 days by adding on an optional 16-day leg from Miami to LA at the beginning of the world tour. The itinerary will “focus heavily on the Australasian region”, said Worth, with the ship visiting NZ and Australia before heading to a number of Asian destinations,

including calls in Japan and four on Africa’s west coast. The ship will then head to Europe before the tour wraps up on 04 Jul in New York, giving guests the opportunity to experience the excitement of Independence Day celebrations. Prices start from AU$61,130 ppts, which includes bonus value such as wi-fi, onboard medical care, shoreside events,

US$1,000 credit per stateroom and speciality dining, in addition to one of the following: 62 free shore excursions, a free beverage package, or free US$6,200 shipboard credit. PORTHOLE LEONARDO DiCaprio was the hero of the movie Titanic, saving his ill-fated lover from drowning. Now over 20 years since the movie’s release, the actor has graduated from saving fictional lives to saving real ones. Last month, the actor was enjoying some time with his friends aboard his yacht off the coast of Saint Martin, when, according to The Sun, they responded to a mayday call. What they found was the French crewman of a Club Med yacht, who reportedly fell overboard while drunk, and had been treading water for 11 hours. With dusk closing in and visibility getting poorer, the man was pulled aboard DiCaprio’s yacht, where he was given food and water. There is no confirmation as to whether or not DiCaprio actually played a role in physically saving the man, but given his heroic history, we like to think he did.

Cycle Croatia on Olimp

SAIL Croatia is hosting a one-off Cycle Croatia Cruise on its luxury ship Olimp. The Olimp Cycle Special takes guests looking for a “luxurious cycling adventure” to Hvar, Brac, Korcula and Mljet from the comfort of this 36-passenger ship, which features a jacuzzi, sundecks, and twin or double ensuite cabins. The seven-day cycle cruise is led by a professional cycling guide, and includes a buffet breakfast and a three-course lunch or dinner. Helmet and bike rental is

available for £90 (A$169), however guests are able to bring their own bike on board; electric bike upgrades are also available for an additional £70 (A$132). Sail Croatia co-founder Grant Seuren told Cruise Weekly the introduction of the luxury ship on a cycle cruise was down to clients wanting more than a traditional cruising experience. “Active Cruises provide exactly that and are the perfect blend of relaxing, exploring and socialising, whilst traversing parts of the beautiful Dalmatian Coast that are often missed,” he said.

CRUISE & Maritime Voyages’ Vasco da Gama arrived in Fremantle for the first time yesterday, where she will homeport for the season. With capacity for 1,220 guests, Vasco da Gama will sail around Western Australia and Asia throughout Jan and Feb. The season will also feature the themed Fringe on the Water event, taking place on 01 Feb (CW 13 Nov 2019). “We are proud to be welcoming Vasco da Gama into Fremantle today for the first time,” said Cruise & Maritime Voyages Australia Managing Director Dean Brazier. “This ship gives travellers a chance to experience parts of Australia that they may not have considered before, including ports which are a first for our cruise line such as the beautiful Kuri Bay in the Kimberley region. “Vasco da Gama offers a value-for-money cruising experience with an intimate, country club-like atmosphere on board.”
