RCI to make China return in Apr ‘24

r oya L Caribbean International (RCI) has set a course for new adventures in China next year, and a new ship in Singapore.

Spectrum of the Seas (pictured), which will become Asia’s largest ship, will sail from China in Apr in its return to the country.

Sailing from Shanghai, holidayers can sail on fourand five-night cruises to a combination of popular Japanese getaway destinations like Fukuoka, Okinawa, Nagasaki, Osaka, and Tokyo.

Spectrum will also offer eight sailings from Hong Kong, starting in Dec 2024, to Ishigaki, Miyazaki, Taipei, and Nha Trang.

The ship is well-known to Chinese cruisers, having debuted in Shanghai in 2019, shortly before she was redeployed to Australia to offer free sailings to those affected by Black Summer (CW 17 Feb 2020).

Anthem of the Seas will also cruise from Singapore next year, sailing in Asia for the very first time, with further details about her season to be released soon.

“This is the moment we - along with Chinese holidaymakershave been waiting for,” Senior Vice President International Bert Hernandez said.

“We thank the govt of China for establishing a pathway forward and continue to be committed to

expanding the cruise industry in a region we have sailed from for more than a decade.

Venture-ing to the Arctic

Carniva L Cruise Line President Christine Duffy recently delivered the commencement address for the University of Houston’s Conrad N. Hilton College of Global Hospitality Leadership graduates, underscoring the importance of the sector in the global economy.

Duffy reminded graduates they are entering a noble profession, highlighting the ways it makes a difference in people’s lives.

She also told of her journey from travel agent to CEO.

Explora adds PEPR

s ea B ourn Cruise Line’s Seabourn Venture (pictured) has begun her second expedition season in the Arctic, following her maiden arrival in Greenwich.

Venture will sail on a 12- and 11-day voyage to the British Isles before embarking on a series of 14- and 15-day cruises to Greenland and Iceland.

Between Jun and Aug, Venture will visit a number of remote destinations such as Scoresby Sound, Pond Inlet, and more.

On 27 Aug, Venture will embark on Seabourn’s first-ever voyage through the Northwest Passage with a 23-day adventure from Kangerlussuaq to Nome which includes pre- and post-cruise hotel stays in Reykjavik and Anchorage.

Following the Northwest Passage voyage, Venture will head down the West Coast of the Americas, before reaching Antarctica, where she will explore the White Continent between Nov 2023 and Feb 2024.

In late Feb, Venture will make a once-in-a-lifetime crossing of the Atlantic encompassing the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, Tristan da Cunha, and Ascension Island.

In Mar and Apr, Venture will

embark on two sailings up West Africa and Europe to position herself for next year’s Arctic season.

Passengers can also travel through the heart of Europe with Viking’s 15-day Grand European Tour from Amsterdam to Budapest or vice versa.

Couriers will admire the Rhine Valley vistas from a 900-year-old castle, sample the food and wine of Austria’s Wachau, learn the Viennese waltz, and linger in Budapest’s Cafe Gerbeaud.
