A&K NZ cruise mgr

ABERCROMBIE & Kent has appointed Mark Kerr to the newly created position of cruise manager New Zealand, following strong market growth. Kerr was most recently logistics manager for ID Tours New Zealand.

PORTHOLE HERE’S one way to cruise at someone else’s expense. A German military official is set to be fully reimbursed after he booked a cruise for his family from the US back to Europe, after a court ruled he was entitled to be repaid the entire cost of the voyage. The Bundeswehr attache worked in the German embassy in Washington, and was ordered to return to Hamburg in 2013. Rather than flying his family home he booked a voyage on the Queen Mary 2 from New York to Hamburg. Upon his return he sued the government, after he was only reimbursed the equivalent cost of Economy class flights. In a judgement this month following a long-running case, the State Higher Administrative Court ruled that he should receive the full cost of the trip. Interestingly, the judgement was based on an entitlement of Business class flights, which would have actually cost Germany’s taxpayers more than the luxury cruise.

REGENT Seven Seas Cruises has announced that Joanna Tatton from Flight Centre Cruise in Noosa Heads, Qld, is the winner of its recent trade awareness competition. Tatton (pictured) was selected as the overall winner from almost 900 entries nationally, and will receive the all-inclusive grand prize of return flights and a sailing aboard the all-suite, all-balcony Seven Seas Voyager from Monte Carlo to Barcelona departing on 02 Jul. The prize is valued at about $13,000, with her winning “20 words or less” entry captivating the judges with its Regent references: “I’d love to be a Mariner. To Explore(r) a Splendor(ous) Voyage(r) and Navigate the Seven Seas”. The competition highlighted the benefits of booking onboard

Founded as a pearling port in the 1880s, over 300 luggers were plying the rich local waters by the turn of the century. Today the destination is more focused on welcoming cruise ships with 15 scheduled visits for the 2017/18 season. Passengers are intrigued by the destination’s varied activities. Along its Indian Ocean coastline, the white sands of 22km-long Cable Beach offer a dramatic backdrop for sunset camel rides. At Gantheaume Point nearby, dinosaur tracks are revealed in the beach’s red rocks during low tide. Broome’s historic Chinatown overlooks Roebuck Bay, and the Port of Broome is the embarkation point for the very popular expedition cruise market along the Kimberley coast through to Wyndham and Darwin. The area also has a rich aboriginal history. Tourism WA and Cruise Broome are excited to showcase these assets to the conference attendees through some fascinating networking and pre- and postconference tours. We look forward to making this year’s conference a most memorable one. For registration CLICK HERE.
