Thank you for considering a bull from Crump Red Angus - we appreciate your interest in our program!

First and foremost, we want to acknowledge commercial Red Angus producers across the country who have made this breed a great success. Your management of cattle and genetic selections have produced the market-topping Red Angus females and quality feeder cattle that are in high demand today and are bringing the Red Angus breed to the forefront in all aspects of the industry. The Red Angus breed is full of good cattle and good people. We’ve not met one person associated with our breed who is not more than willing to give insight or lend a hand. Because the breed has required Total Herd Reporting, you can find legitimate records and solid data in every herd. The female is the hub in any profit driven operation and the focus from the breed as a whole on the maternal and convenience traits should assure you that you can purchase solid Red Angus bulls throughout the country this bull sale season. With that in mind, what sets us apart? Two specific things come to mind. The first thing that comes to mind is the country that our cattle are run in - large pastures made up of the rough and rugged Powder River breaks. The terrain, dry conditions and distance to water combined with the performance requirements that we set do the majority of our genetic selection for us and leave us with a moderate framed cow who is structurally correct, calves unassisted, and produces a calf that anyone would be proud to put on a truck. If our cows can make it here, they can make it anywhere. Second is how our bulls are developed. Our goal in developing the bulls is to extend the length of return on your investment. The bulls are developed here at home in a forty acre pasture where they get the exercise needed to promote muscle development and structural correctness. They are fed a dry ration and home grown native grass hay which closely mimics the feed sources that they will transition to once they are turned out to pasture for breeding season. We are confident that bulls out of our program will thrive in any environment! There are several bulls in the offering that we would like to sample in the 2015 breeding season. These bulls will be collected at our expense and your convenience prior to delivery. Videos of our bulls can be found at www.dvauction.com or by clicking on the link on our website. Carcass ultrasound data for the bulls and heifers will also be available on our website prior to the sale, in a supplemental spreadsheet on sale day or contact us after February 15th and we would be happy to mail or e-mail a copy. If you are coming into town the night before the sale, come join us for a complimentary supper from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Bozeman Trail Steakhouse just west of the interstate in Buffalo on the south side of Hart Street. Your satisfaction is our future - we want to earn your business and appreciate your consideration! Sincerely, Crump Red Angus

“He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated Him to the highest place of honor and gave Him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:8-11

The bulls are developed at home in a 40 acre pasture where they walk uphill to water and downhill to feed. The bulls are thrifty but not fat, hard and trim but not thin. Bulls that are physically fit when they are turned out will breed more cows because they will retain a higher level of libido longer. The lack of a mud and manure mire that this set up provides is ideal to get young bull’s hooves hardened and accustomed to walking. This method of bull development provides a proper environment in which to effectively assess genetic differences. All of the bulls are fed together - not sorted by size - which makes an intact contemporary group and results in more accurate data. The bulls are hand fed a limited ration of bull develMore than oper pellet and native grass hay twice a day with a tarthirty football fields get gain of three pounds a day. This dry ration closely would fit inside our mimics real world conditions and enables the bulls to bull development easily transition to feed conditions anywhere. Finalpasture! ly, we’ve incorporated flax seed oil into our ration in an effort to assure intake of Omega 3 Fatty Acids which have been shown to help in the development of reproductive tracts.

When you think of your top cows, you think of them at the end of summer with a soggy steer calf or a heifer calf at the top of your replacement list, right? Most cows pay for themselves but those few are profit centers; you can just count on them every year. So you save their heifer calves and dream of a day when you have a whole herd just like them. This is where Fine Design 4167 and the complete offering in our 3rd Annual Forever Red Bull Sale come into play. These bulls are designed to increase profitability in your herd by the females that they will sire. Those superior females raise the top replacement heifers and your best steers. So, you can cross your fingers each year that those top cows that we talked about earlier have heifer calves, or you can influence your entire herd with bulls like Fine Design 4167 to increase your profitability and propel your herd building capabilities. Fine Design 4167 is a son of Forever West 2102 - our top selling bull in 2013 purchased by Bryce Risa in Opheim, MT. 4167 has super length in a smooth fronted, correct package and could be used on cows or heifers.

A profitable calf comes easy, smashes the scales on pay day and then caps off at a size that allows it to maintain good body condition and start putting the energy right into reproduction - heifers raising calves and bulls covering cows. The overall depth and volume exhibited by 4165 comes as no surprise since he’s backed by powerhouse legends L081and M045. His phenotype and early masculinity combined with the size and performance of his dam causes us to believe that his progeny will be ideal. We’ve had a lot of fun watching 4165 grow this summer and expect great things for his future!

We've left plenty of room for notes but pens don't write well on this paper - Sharpies will be available on sale day!

Truman 4459 is a genuine maintenance energy king - a herd sire prospect with tremendous length, volume and performance. He has a hard earned weaning ratio of 106, a yearling ratio of 102 and has been a top gaining bull on test. 4459’s dam, Crump Hazy Y105, could be the standard by which to measure performance -the two calves that she has raised have averaged 70% of her body weight at weaning while starting at an average of 80 pounds at birth. She is the most moderate cow in our herd but has also been our top performer since she has been in production. Last year her Hughes son sold to Richard Gardner, Beaver, OK for $10,750. This big time herd bull may be the best Roosevelt son to sell this bull sale season.

Do you have Julian or Nebula daughters that you need out cross genetics for? These Mtn. Sign’s are the ticket! This very balanced heifer bull is soft made with a super fronted, has plenty of length, a good top and a great disposition. 493 indexed well in BW, WW and YW; we predict his weaning weight index would have been much higher if not for a gimp just prior to weaning. After weaning, 493 had the second highest gain on test giving him a 136 ratio. This bull has all the genetic ingredients to give you a pen of beautiful heifers that will make great brood cows. Wait! Maybe more important of all is the stacked carcass genetics in his pedigree. Advocate is currently indexing 119 for IMF on 148 progeny scanned. 1039’s past progeny have scanned 111 for IMF and we expect 493 to carry that on. So, what else could you ask for in a breeding bull??

Look out heifers, here we come! 4119 is a son of Crump Nemesis Z038 - a highlight bull in our 2013 sale. Starting at only 77 pounds, he posted a 101 WR and a 102 WR! Talk about longevity - if you look through the bottom side of his pedigree clear back to the fourth generation, every cow is alive and in production here at Crump Red Angus - even MDM Vernice 13, who is twelve years old this year, bred back AI and continues to meet our performance requirements while thriving in the challenging, arid Wyoming environment.

4109 is an eye appealing, clean made calving ease bull that has excelled in every measure, hitting every sweet spot relevant to profitability. His super easy fleshing ability should cause him thrive and produce pounds as efficiently as possible in a forage based environment. 4109 has all of the ingredients to sire soft, efficient, fertile females with enough longevity to be productive brood cows for years to come. His dam has done a great job, producing a sale bull last year who sold to Heifer Bull Dudley and Marilynn Mackey, Gillette, WY, for $10,500.

•A Little Piece of History•

KERWIN, WYOMING

In 1885, William Kerwin discovered gold in the upper Wood Valley and by the 1890's Meeteetse, Wyoming became the jumping off place for a minor gold rush. The center of the mining district was the town of Kerwin, located 33 miles to the southeast of Meeteetse at 9,500 feet in elevation. A number of mines were created in the area including the Molly Logan, the Smuggler and the Tumlum. The Tumlum was the deepest at 250 feet deep with a steam powered house and three-story tall head frame. The gold was brought out by mule. At its peak in 1906, the town had a population of over 200 and 38 buildings including a hotel, a saloon and a store. In February 1907, Kerwin was besieged by blizzards. In one eight-day period the town was hit by over 50 feet of snow soon followed by an avalanche which buried the town and killed three residents. Later that spring nearly all of the remaining residents left Kerwin. Various attempts were made to revive the town or mining potential in the following decades. The construction of Wolf Mine shaft house was one of such attempts, but - like the others - was short lived. After various ownerships, the town of Kerwin was purchased by the Richard King Mellon Foundation and Conservation Fund and donated to the public in 1992 under the care of the Shoshone National Forest.

Noteworthy 433 definitely came in at the top of his class. We regularly take individual weights and by October, we usually have a bull break 1,000 pounds; this year 433 was one of three to accomplish that. He has jumped through all the hoops - earning 95 BR, 118 WR and 104 YR. His dam is a great uddered cow who comes from a long line of productive females and has already made it into our embryo program. 433 encompasses all areas vital to mainstream beef production.

• Pacesetter didn’t miss a beat with a 92 BR, 103 WR and 107 YR • Pacesetter’s proven pedigree is stacked with cow power, longevity, fertility and carcass. • Thick, heavy muscled, big topped, easy fleshing and great front end

extension Avalanche 818 daughters have proven over and over again to be worth their weight in gold. 1020 and her daughter have proven their fertility and maternal abilities, are structurally correct with good feet and perfect udders. This dam, combined with everything that we appreciate about 10Z, has produced Pacesetter 491 - a bull that hits all the bases. We see the value in 491 as a clean up bull in our own program and will be keeping full possession and 50% semen sharing interest. We do not want to keep this genetic potential to ourselves, however, so we are offering 50% revenue sharing semen interest and a guarantee of 100 straws. We would like to work with the new owner on a marketing plan.

Mtn. Sign 10Z - the high selling bull in 5L’s 2013 sale - is sired by 5L Advocate 14W whose progeny to date have scanned an outrageous 119 IMF on 148 progeny. Mtn. Sign 10Z scanned a 122 IMF with leads us to believe that his calves will scan well. 10Z calves are stamped with distinctive breed character. They are wide topped, long bodied cattle. The heifers are the best heifers we have seen anywhere. He stamps them with a soft, broody look of a futuristic producer. Mtn. Sign 10Z’s calving ease is great and will reduce birth weight.

We chose 441 to lead off the Mtn. Sign sire group due to his overall balance. He puts everything together phenotypically - clean fronted, long and square hipped. He has enough calving ease and maternal pedigree in him to make a very profitable breeding bull while pushing carcass traits that will add profit on the rail.

Running out of time to buy a 10Z son and a 3/4 brother to Lot Ten to boot! 4145 posted impressive 108 WW and 108 YW ratios which is not an easy task here at Crump Red Angus. We run all of our cattle together in the same pasture rotation to give you the largest comparison groups possible; no sorting to manipulate numbers. Same goes with the development of bulls - all contemporaries are developed together to give accurate yearling and carcass data. We look forward to seeing the scan data on these 10Z calves and will have it on our website after February 15th.

Disposition Is Extremely Important To Us!

(We explain why in the article to the right)

DOCILITY

THE OVERLOOKED CONVENIENCE AND PROFITABILITY TRAIT Convenience traits are identified as those cattle traits that contribute directly to savings in time, facilities, drugs and labor in a cow-calf enterprise. In our opinion, disposition is without a doubt the most important, over looked and under estimated convenience trait that there is in correlation to accidents and liability. We have five muchkins running around here involved in all aspects of the operation so it is natural that the first thought that comes to mind related to disposition is their safety. Since 97% of US beef production is done on family operations, chances are that you also have kids, grand kids or the hired man’s kids involved in your day to day activities. Disposition really affects the safety of everyone, though. If you run the place on your own, you can’t afford to miss a day laid up with an injury and it is equally as costly to have an employee that you desperately need not available to work due to an accident. Along the same lines, a cow with a bad disposition can quickly wreak havoc on buildings, corrals and fences resulting in added labor and expense. Docility in feedlot cattle is why many feeders are going to Red Angus calves. Research from Iowa State University has shown that cattle with poor dispositions gain nearly one-half pound per day less than quiet, easily managed cattle and returned $61 less profit. Also, easily excited cattle tend to produce carcasses that have a higher incidence of dark cutters which are heavily discounted in market price in the packing industry. Cows with acceptable dispositions protect their young from coyotes while maintaining presence of mind when their calf is being tagged. They are not bothered by foot traffic, 4-wheelers or horses riding through them but can also be moved easily by these same methods. They are not pets but they are calm in working facilities. Calves out of cows with these dispositions are not sluggish at birth but instead have the vigor that contributes so much to calving ease. Disposition affects handling equipment requirements, operation liability exposure, beef quality assurance, carcass quality and performance. Heritability of temperament is moderately high and directional change can be made by selection and culling. We have zero tolerance for hot headed animals - they go to the sale barn immediately. Feel free to purchase any bull knowing that your satisfaction in his disposition is fully backed by our guarantee.

Now let’s kick off some P707 sons. We appreciate the length of body, top and volume that the P707’s possess. P707 sons have garnered attention from some of the leading cattlemen in the business. They are phenotypically outstanding; through test they were top gainers. NT315 - the donor cow to Lots 24 to 30 - is still in our herd and producing at the age of 12. The natural heifer calf that she raised in 2014 weaned off at 51% of the dam's weight and sells as Lot 116!

Let’s start off the sire group with a super stylish Forever West son. These 2102 sons exhibit the structure of sound made breeding bulls. They are hard working, high libido bulls ready to cover country. Forever West 2102 should make a great out cross for more mainstream pedigrees. He is backed up by a high growth, productive and fertile cow family. He sires great Heifer Bull fleshing ability.

The weight that we use for the "% Dam's Weight" is taken each year on the same day that we take the weaning weight on the calf that she raised that year. It is interesting to note that every cow that raised a Forever West sired bull calf had a ratio between 100 to 134 for this measurement!

Avalanche 818 has done a lot right in our program. He is a gift that keeps on giving. His daughters continually bring in top end calves that are fertile, great uddered, easy fleshing and just easy on the eye. Every year Avalanche sons top our sale. His sons have proven to be successful breeding bulls working across the country in different environments. 4417 will be no exception. He is built from the ground up - thick and muscular, wide based and free moving. This easy fleshing meat wagon is very balanced.

Interesting pedigree here - 0908 is the dam of our herd sire Y106. We pulled her out of production for a year to flush her. Now she is back at it doing a great job with her 818 son. He posted a crazy set of data - 87 BR, 103 WR

Heifer Bull f O d ou Be Pr u Do! o Y t a Some people claim that we should be producing food more like we did in the 1950’s, but did you Wh

know that modern, efficient beef production results in more pounds of beef utilizing fewer resources than less-efficient production methods. If 1950’s technology were used today, we would need an additional 165 million acres to produce the same amount of beef. Jude Capper compares current beef production to more recent data when she says, “In 1977, hot carcass weight for beef was about 603 pounds per animal. In 2007, that was 773 pounds. In 1977, it took five animals to produce the same amount of beef that only four animals produced in 2007, which means that more feed was required and more waste was produced (then). At the same time, in 1977, it took 609 days from birth to slaughter. In 2007, that was 485 days.” Capper further calculates, “If we multiply those five animals by 605 days and do the same for the 2007 data, to produce the same amount of beef took 3,045 animal days in 1977 compared to 1,950 days in 2007.” With efficiencies in production, Capper noted that to make one pound of beef, U.S. ranchers require 19 percent less feed, 12 percent less water and 33 percent less land. U.S. ranchers are using fewer natural resources to provide more abundant beef; they supply 25% of the world’s beef with just 10% of the world’s cattle. In Wyoming, 6.2 million people are fed with beef produced in the state; this means that Wyoming feeds 10.6 times more people than our total population!

Wow! When I look down at the bottom side of 401's pedigree, I see the 13 cow with an MPPA of 105.7 on 10 calves. At age 12, she is still producing and has not fallen through the cracks. This cow really knows how to make a living on the Wyoming prairie. IMPORTANT - Our program runs all ages of cattle until they are culled for disposition, feet, age, udders or if they come up open or don't meet our performance criteria on paper. We do not sell old cows just to get rid of old EPD's. Unfortunately, old pedigrees falsely have a much lower % breed ranking and don't have enough progeny data points to adjust their numbers. For example: bulls could easily tabulate 100 to 1,000 progeny while even if a cow produced to age 16, she would only have 14 progeny. The genomic data (50K or 80K) has not corrected these numbers like we had hoped because the DNA markers that were sampled for the discovery group were only from mainstream genetics. Younger dam's pedigrees are more likely to contain genetics from this discovery group, so when they combine with current heavily used sires the result are progeny with these parental averages stacked, giving them a more attractive EPD profile. When tested, the progeny from old, proven cows or progeny who's parentage was not included in the discovery group is not recognized in the system, therefore not able to adjust accurately. This is why we strongly recommend that you use EPD's as simple tools and use more cow sense - especially on older pedigrees.

Wow, where do we start? This guy is flaunting a 126 WW ratio. Yeah, let me say that again - a 126 WR and a 120 YR! Wait, that is not even the most impressive thing that we have here. His beautiful dam - an L081 daughter - posted a 114 MPPA. That has got to be one of the highest MPPA's in the whole Red Angus breed. I think this Romeo L081 just made our donor program.

4433 is a half brother to Lot 70 and is in close contention...maybe he has a little better spread. This is truly performance: 91 BR, 111 WR and 117 YR. His Liddy dam also tabulated a huge 105.9 MPPA. Well, don't stress about which one of these to buy. Get your hand up in the air and take home both.

The next two bulls are the only red sons of 9127 in the sale. 4471 comes from a bonafide calving ease cow family. He should sire productive, efficient, very easy fleshing females. Pay close attention to your sale order - bulls are sold in sire groups and will have top bulls like this throughout the sale.

Another bull that we did not mark for heifers but may work on certain type of heifers.

Taking Pride in the Beef Industry

A responsible purebred producer knows his cattle have to be more than vessels of superior genetics. With each animal sold goes an increased responsibility to protect the beef industry through consideration of public heath, future trade influence and customer satisfaction. A producer’s reputation is at risk if his animals are a source of disease that negatively impacts the industry. Proper development and testing boosts confidence in any product, including replacement cattle. Herd management is the number one key to herd health. Proper record keeping, pasture rotation, nutrition, de-worming and vaccine protocols help the producer prevent many diseases. For example, vaccinating calves at branding and preconditioning with modified live viruses, Pasteurellas and H. Somnus minimizes pneumonia, subsequent loss of production, and adverse reproductive effects. Minimizing stress and administering coccidiostats at key stages helps prevent coccidiosis, which suppresses the immune system, making calves more susceptible to pneumonia causing agents. Taking management seriously helps the producer develop a healthier and more cost effective animal. But there are other diseases that may be more difficult to notice than pneumonia or coccidiosis. These diseases, too, can be passed from herd to herd with detrimental effects. In these cases, testing the animal before sale helps to assure a purebred producer he/she is not passing disease onto their customer. Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus has made headlines the past couple decades. Although, one strain or another of it is protected for in almost every respiratory vaccine combo, it still shows its ugly head. This is due to the many different strains and it’s ability to create persistently infected calves. These PI calves shed the virus throughout their lives. Producers can test their cattle simply by submitting an ear notch. This test allows the producer to know if the animal is persistently infected with the BVD virus, in which case it should be sent to slaughter only. Johnes used to be considered a dairy cattle disease, but recent studies indicate approx. 8% of beef herds are infected with Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis. This infection is transmitted through a fecal/oral route, as well as in milk. Calves are usually infected by 6 months of age, but it may not be until they are sold as replacements that chronic weight loss and diarrhea show as clinical signs. With this disease, biosecurity becomes important. Be aware of what you are bringing into your herd. Leased bulls, nurse cows from a dairy or cattle of an unknown history are at greater risk for carrying Johnes. Purebred producers can test their bulls prior to sale, benefitting the industry. And although the jury is still out about a relationship between Johnes and Chrohns disease in humans, it’s still an issue and has potential for public safety concern. Bovine Leukemia Virus, the agent responsible for lymphosarcoma and millions of dollars worth of condemned carcasses, has an 8.5% prevalence in beef herds. This retrovirus is spread through blood via vectors like insects and shared needles. The higher the stocking rate the more prevalent it seems to be. So again, like Johnes, biosecurity plays a role. A blood sample submitted for serology can identify positive animals before they are introduced into new herds. None of these diseases should be sold to you and as international movement and trade becomes more abundant, regulation and control of disease becomes more crucial to our industry. Crumps have set an example for producers today, believing so strongly in their herd and the future of our industry, that they voluntarily tested their bulls for these diseases. They have taken a step to elevate the standard their consumers should expect. For this we are proud, and it is an honor to work with producers that take such pride in their work. Drs. Jay and Brandi Hudson Lazy H Large Animal Services, LLC

Crump Primrose 4424 is rooted to one cow that we hold in very high regard. She is stacked with generations of fertile and very productive, high MPPA cows. These cows always wean off calves with a big percentage of their body weight and always breed back AI. U021 was one of the top selling cows at the Buffalo Creek Dispersal sale. The only reason we would consider putting a heifer like this is the sale is that we plan on pulling U021 from production and flushing her to propogate these genetics.

1T is a calving ease sire that we used to offer our customers an out cross to some of the more mainstream genetics. 1T sires moderate cattle that stay in good flesh. The heifers have a soft broody look that we think cowmen will appreciate.

Mtn. Sign is a strong carcass bull. We look forward to seeing his progeny scan data. Mtn. Sign reduced the birth weights on every cow that we used him on. The calves came fast and easy with no assists and lots of calf vigor. His sons grew quickly into long, muscled attractive bulls that are stamped with distinctive breed character. The best attribute that we think Mtn. Sign possesses is his growthy, capacious and attractive, smooth and angular heifers and their overall look of futuristic producers.

Goldrush is an Accelerated Genetics bull that captivated our interest with his progeny's data. He is currently posting a 102 IMF and 103 REA on 83 calves. We have consistently heard great reports about daughters in production. 17T calves quickly had a bull look to them. They perform very well on paper and phenotypically. They should make profitable breeding bulls.

We purchased Y141 from Leland's sale in 2013. He indexed a crazy 160 IMF - his own progeny have scanned 106 IMF and 100 REA. Y141 sires cattle with straight legs and great feet. His sons are high libido, athletic and cover a lot of country. Combining carcass and high growth, Y141 sons should make profitable breeding bulls.

Heifer Bull

Before we assign this symbol to a bull, we take everything into consideration - his dam's personal calving history as well as the history of the cow family, the calf 's actual birth weight, birth weight EPD and then the build of the calf at birth. This Heifer Bull symbol indicates a bull that we would feel very confident using on our heifers. Research has shown, however, that 70% of birth weight comes from the heifer. Heifers with a history of heavier birth weights will have calves with heavier birth weights but should be quite capable of having calves out of these bulls because of their pelvis size. Accordingly, lower birth weight heifers should have lower birth weight calves but also tend to have smaller pelvises. If you've been stacking low birth weights, take caution with some of the bulls we have marked. Conversely, although ET calves receive no genetic input from their surrogate, she does influence the birth weight and so you may find other bulls throughout the catalog that are not marked that would work fine for your heifer program. Analyze the data on these bulls closely and you'll find that a majority of them could also be used for cow bulls without sacrificing performance in your calf crop.

COMMERCIAL SEMEN PRICING FOR CUSTOMERS

If you purchase a bull this year or have supported our program in the past, contact us for a list of semen available to you for $5.00 a straw. We will collect bulls that you are interested in to the best of our ability or assist you in every way possible.

FREEZE BRANDING

Sale animals will be freeze branded with their ID after the sale but prior to delivery. If you prefer that your bull not be freeze branded, please let us know!
