The Area 6 Associate Advisor of Communications is Tamara Campbell, but all her friends call her Tammy. She is married to the love of her life, Dave Campbell. Together they have a vast experience in Scouting. They have had three boys go through the program, two of which have attained Eagle and the third is in the works. Over the years, they have been highly involved in the Cub Scouting program, Boy Scout program and more recently (beginning in 2006) they began diving into the Venturing and Sea Scout (2008) Programs. She has served on several Wood Badge Staffs, working on staffing an upcoming Sea Badge as well as recently taking on the Area 6 Vice Commodore of Training for Sea Scouts and now the Associate Advisor for Communications in Area 6. Tammy has earned her Council Patch, a district level award called Pewter Skunk (for training), the District Award of Merit, the Silver Beaver award, and most recently the VLA from our council. She is humbled by each of these awards as she never expected any of them. She loves the program and what it offers our youth to teach them skills for success in the world today. Scouting keeps her pretty busy. Outside of Scouting, her three boys are her world. Her oldest, recently married his High School Sweetheart (and co-Venturer) and they are building their new life together. Her middle son, is her over-achiever who sets goals and doesn’t give up until he reaches them and he was recently chosen as the 2015-2016 National Sea Scout Boatswain. Her youngest, a bit shy, but has recently accepted the position of Area 6 VP of Admin. WHEN they have “free time” they work on 4-H projects, maintain their flowers and a small garden as well as occasionally hunt and fish. Tammy loves to scrap book (but never have time), sit around the campfire and meet new people.
Recent Events The Venturing Fun Weekend: Zombie Apocalypse This very adventurous weekend was hosted by Venturing Crew 457 of Erie Shores Council. A very enthusiastic group of Venturers showed up to see if they could survive the Zombie Apocalypse. This event was held at the beautiful Pioneer Scout Reservation (PSR). The weekend started off with the campers being made-up like the undead and eating many different zombie themed treats. After this they took a walk out into the woods to a bonfire where they discussed different fun zombie questions. On Saturday Morning, Many Venturers enjoyed the High C.O.P.E. and zip-line, while others played Gaga Ball or explored the BMX course. After lunch, the shooting sports opened. These included: Rifle, Shotgun, Archery, Paintball, and Hand gun. After shooting sports closed, we headed down to the lake front and enjoyed Beach volleyball, Open swim, boating, letting the Bluegill nibble on our toes, and a cook out on the beach. Two hours later, the Zombie Luau started. This included the following competitions: Hula-hooping, Hula, Limbo, and Zombie Brain Feud. Later, we headed back to our campsite where everyone visited and had fun around the campfire.
On Sunday, we got up went to breakfast and talked of ideas for next year! Hopefully see you next year! Sydney Roscoe
Makahiki Weekend Makahiki was held in Warsaw, Indiana on the weekend of July 31August 2, 2015. It was a gorgeous weekend and boatloads of fun were had by everyone.
