The Beauty of
Aerial Lift
With the emergence of huge construction companies worldwide, a need for heavy equipment is a necessity. Aerial lifts are very handy as a means of transport to the materials and the personnel that needs to be hauled up. A mechanical device used to elevate people or workers is rightfully termed as aerial lifts. Sometimes it is termed man lift, cherry pickers or bucket trucks. Whatever is the term, the equipment is definitely big help in the industry. Cables are attached to the open chairs or gondolas which makes the lifting possible. There are two types of aerial lifts namely: cable cars and chairlift. Types of cable cars depend on the attachments of cables. It could be aerial tramway when the cable is fixed for dangling gondola and another in pulling the gondola along the cable. A Funitel when gondola is attached to two cables. Gondola lift has a moving two loops cable with gondola attached. And Funitor if two fixed cables are used for suspending gondola and another to pull it along the cable. More construction workers are found dead and some are permanently injured due to misused of aerial lifts like bucket trucks and scissor lifts. Mostly the reason is electrocution, fall and tip overs and some because workers are struck by materials hauled or were caught between the guardrail and the object. A need for a safety course or training is necessary to prevent all these accidents. Be sure that the operators as well as all the personnel involved in the operation have undergone safety precautions and each must know the maintenance history of the said lift. Maintenance of the lifts must be carried out as specified and allow a conduct of detailed yearly inspections if possible. To prevent electrocution, workers must be away from the overhead power lines and must wear protective materials at all cost. And a full body harness must be used to keep the workers inside the buckets or guardrails to prevent them from falling. Do not over exceed the specified load capacity of the lift in exchange for an early finish.
