WHATHIGHLIGHTS IS KIWIN’S? MONTHLY PALISADES CRAYON COLLECTION: 1 MILLION CRAYONS FOR TEACHERS

The Crayon Collection is an organization that collects donated crayons that are normally throw out but they give new crayons to teachers in the Los Angeles Area. At the beginning of the event, some members and I helped count crayons for an hour to create a Guinness World Record for the most donated crayons in history. In an hour we counted 4,180 crayons, but added together with the other crayons donated beforehand the full total in 8 hours is 1,009,500! Later on the day, we helped distribute 1 million crayons to L.A.U.S.D and Head Start Teachers. “I really enjoyed giving back to teachers, many who have to spend their own money for school supplies.” -Alexis Jones-Sawyer, Member

FAIRFAX A CHILD’S DREAM: BACK TO SCHOOL GIVEAWAY A Child's Dream hosted its Annual Back to School Giveaway, and Fairfax KIWIN'S attended, escorting families around to get school supplies, a backpack, books, socks, hygiene kits, windbreakers, t-shirts, duffel bags, and snacks. “As I was helping out, it was really touching to see many people coming out to help out those in neeed and I had a really good time!” -Esther Oh, Divisional Media Correspondent

BEACHPALOOZA RECAP

August 19, 2018 Annual Beachpalooza Event “A crowd of enthusiastic and ridiculous KIWIN'S members flocked into Muscle Beach, ready for Beach Palooza to commence. Members of Crystal, Goldstone, Diamond, Turquoise, Sapphire, and Jet Division participated in various activities: Scavenger Hunt (unfortunately was canceled), Ice Breakers, and a Spirit Battle. The members engaged in various activities we call “Ice Breakers” where members were encouraged to meet new people and collaborate with them to win the “Ice Breaker” challenge. Members were instructed to wander around within the group until an LTG (Lieutenant Governor) called out a number. Whatever number that was called, the members would have to form a group that consisted of that number of people. The initial awkwardness of meeting someone new evaporated. Members migrated away from their secluded and familiar groups, finding new friends within the throng of participants. During the Spirit Battle the rowdy KIWIN'S group erupted in a frantic fervor, displaying their allegiance to their KIWIN'S ohana. Often erupting randomly in a passionate outcry, madly chanting their unique division mantra. The event encouraged members from various divisions to interact with one another and helped form a hearty camaraderie. Club officers had opportunities to connect with their Lieutenant Governors and other KIWIN'S club officers. Beach Palooza was undoubtedly a successful and joyous event that brought student from many different walks of life to talk, to laugh, and to scream together. ”

-- Audrey Chang, Fairfax KIWIN’S Secretary
