Crystal Division’s Officer Training Conference 2017/DCM Special Guests? Leis for Pediatric Trauma Program? Fun Training? YES! All of these things took place at Crystal’s OTC. The OTC was held at Fairfax High School on September 9th. Special Guests included Victor Huynh (Jet Division’s Bulletin Editor), Nhung Tran (past District Bulletin Editor and current Key Club International Trustee), Zachary Chen (Goldstone Lieutenant Governor), Larry Lam (District Convention Chair), Mahmood Bashir (Goldstone Regional Advisor), and Paul Duplessis (Jet Kiwanis Advisor). At the Officer Training Conference, officers and members were trained on their specific position’s duties and goals, as well as other leadership workshops that were held by guests. Officer-specific training sessions were led by Julie Han, Mina Choi, Benny Chung, Jiho Kim, and Victor Huynh. As for leadership workshops, the humorous Zachary Chen taught us how to manage stress and time efficiency, Larry Lam presented an amazing workshop on being an efficient leader, and Nhung Tran demonstrated to us the secrets to becoming a convincing and great public speaker. Leis were also sold in order to fundraise for Pediatric Trauma Program. Thank you to Fairfax members for putting together such BEAUTIFUL leis to represent Crystal Division and show spirit at DCMs, service events, and District events. More information on PTP and how YOU can help on page [9-10]. The conference was very successful and had the attendance of over 4o members. It was an informative, fun, and eye-opening experience. It is great to witness the amount of members who are dedicated to being servant leaders and contributing back to their community.

CLUB RUSH Fairfax High school had club rush on September 19, 2017. Although we had club rush a bit late it was a very successful club rush. We had up to 100 sign ups!! A lot of old members were interested in joining the club again and tons of new people were interested in being members as well. We successfully showed our KIWIN’S spirit and enlightened others about what KIWIN’S is all about. -Anna Ji (Fairfax KIWIN’S Club President)

10-20 members wore blue and KIWIN'S shirts and surrounded the KIWIN'S table. A few of the members walked around the crowds of students passing out flyers and wearing small signs in order to advertise the club, while the remaining members stayed near the table and participated in KIWIN'S Spirit Cheers and asked students to sign up for the club. We got 39 people to sign up. We also were the most active/standout club at club rush due to the cheers, the poster, and the large amount of members that participated during Club Rush. -Joseph Baylis (University KIWIN’S Club President)

CLUB RUSH

On September 14, Palisades KIWIN’S attended their school’s club rush. We set up our table by placing a bright blue Pali KIWIN’S banner in front with our club trifold on top of the table. We held signs that promoted our amazing organization, while wearing our Crystal Division gear. As students signed-up or learned more about our club, we cheered to show our Polar Bear spirit. Candy was handed out to anyone that signed-up and we were able to get seven full sheets of sign-ups, which is about 200 students. It was a successful day for our club and brought many students into KIWIN’S. -Alexandra Aladham (Palisades KIWIN’S Club President)

On September 7th, 2017, LACES KIWIN'S welcomed our new polar bears into the family! It was very exciting getting to meet new people and spreading the message of KIWIN'S. We had 4 posters and gave out cute polar bear bookmarks to advertise our club. We accumulated 20 more members on top of our 30 returning members. Because we have middle schoolers at our school, it was sad turning them away and only allowing high schoolers, but told them they can join by creating Builder's Club. We hope to grow our membership to 50 members by the end of dues registration. -Lauren Joo (LACES KIWIN’S Club President)

SERVICE EVENTS OF THE MONTH Club Project: Palisades’s Beach Cleanup with UCLA Circle K Pali KIWIN’S had a beach Clean-up on September 24 at Santa Monica Beach. Around 10 members attended and we started out our day with some icebreakers. After playing fun games like Soul Mate, we started our clean-up. We walked around the beach and picked up plastic, food packages, and other trash items. Once the clean-up ended, we all gathered up and had a nice lunch, while talking about school and future KIWIN’S events. The event was very successful and hopefully helped the environment.

SERVICE EVENTS OF THE MONTH

Divisional Project: Coastal Cleanup Day The schools within Crystal Division took part in the Coastal Cleanup day at Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook in Culver City. The event was awesome because students were able to take part in a Cleanup Day event with LA Kiwanis advisors. This cleanup was also unique because it was different from the Heal the Bay cleanups, which usually take place at the beach (both are wonderful events). Members engaged in serving their environment, as well as building connections which each other. Crystal Members were thrilled to spend their Saturday morning doing fun and impactful community service.

USC KEY TO COLLEGE RECAP USC Circle K invited Crystal Division to attend their Key to College event! Around twenty members showed up at the event and did not regret showing up. USC Circle K students demonstrated tips on selecting a major, destressing, dealing with financial aid, and developing concise and successful personal statements. Circle K also expanded the knowledge of the K-Family (K-Kids, Builders Club, CNH/CNH KIWIN’S, Circle K, Kiwanis, and Aktion Club) to the attendees. College is a time of worry and stress, so this event allowed the members to gain insight on how to manage these worries. Circle K students also gave a tour of USC and the members were able to see the library where the movie Ghostbusters filmed their famous scene. Ultimately, this was a great experience and Crystal is so thankful for being allowed this opportunity.
