What is the Key Club International (KCI) Major Emphasis? “CHILDREN: THEIR FUTURE, OUR FOCUS.” While CNH KIWIN’S Key Club’s Major Emphasis is Live2Learn, Key Club International focuses on “Children: Their Future, Our Focus.” At Key Club International’s first convention in 1946, the organization was challenged to create a program to bring together every Key Club member to focus on making a global impact. That challenge resulted in the creation of the Major Emphasis Program (MEP): “Children: Their Future, Our Focus.” To fulfill the MEP, Key Club International serves children in many ways. By working with Key Club International’s preferred charities, Key Clubs serve children by aiding other organizations committed to serving children.
Who are Key Club International’s Preferred Charities? CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK HOSPITALS (CMN HOSPITALS) CMN Hospitals is a nonprofit organization that raises money to benefit hospitalized kids while increasing awareness of its member hospitals. Key Club participates with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals by sponsoring fundraising events or participating in service projects at the more than 170 children’s hospitals affiliated with CMN Hospitals.

The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. Since 1978, Key Clubs have been making a difference for babies everywhere. Key Club members raise thousands of dollars annually through various programs, including collecting change, holding dances and taking part in March of Dimes’ signature event, March for Babies.

JANUARY EVENTS RECAP
Candidates Training Conference (CTC) January 11th | 1-4 PM | Orange Coast College
“At CTC, my overall experience was great. It wasn’t overwhelming nor did it fall short of being a great, informative event. I learned so much and I was very interested in all the individual sessions of improving myself and learning how to apply for higher positions. Afterwards, we had fun during icebreakers and had pizza. Then, we attended one last session. Lastly, it was so much fun and my president and I learned a lot.” — Miguel Reyes, University High School Charter KIWIN’S Member

JANUARY EVENTS RECAP
January DCM
January 18th | 1 - 3 PM | Pan Pacific Park “At the event, we first had club check-ins. Then, we had the Awards of the Month. I was really proud of Mina Shin for winning Member of the Month. Some of our members are becoming more dedicated and involved in KIWIN’S, which is great. I was also proud of us for winning Club of the Month. It was a great way to start off the new year. We are now motivated to do more. Later on, we played icebreakers that were a little hard, but I did meet new people and learn their names. There was also a snack break. Afterwards, we wrote ‘Dear Future Me Letters’ that will be mailed to us at the end of the year. It made me think of things I wanted and things I could change for the new year. I also had fun drawing on my letter. I can’t wait to receive mine at the end of the year. Lastly, we talked about upcoming events that I hope to attend.” — Eleora Salvador, LACES KIWIN’S Secretary
