OCTOBER EVENTS RECAP
ey o ollege US C USC Key to College
October 5th | USC | 8:30 am - 4 pm “The USC Key to College event hosted by USC Circle K and Metro Division was a very informative and enlightening educational opportunity about college brought to us first hand by college students. I learned helpful advice and tips on becoming a strong college applicant and building a profile that stands out through college essays and prompts. The personal experiences discussed by our Key Club counterparts allowed me to learn how to make the most out of college after hearing from their student perspectives, such as immersing yourself in work-study programs, joining clubs, networking, and taking professional opportunities. I enjoyed the personal campus tour and getting an insider’s view on life on the beautiful, urban campus. I learned a lot about applying to college and becoming a thriving college student.” — Damaris Arteaga, Fairfax HS KIWIN’S Member

OCTOBER EVENTS RECAP
KTC + DCM KIWIN’S Training Conference & October DCM October 12th | UCLA | 12 - 3 pm
“I’m new to KIWIN’S and attending KTC helped me gain a better understanding of what KIWIN’S is. We learned about the history of KIWIN’S and what it means to become a member. As we went over the objectives for this year, everyone was excited about our future events. Through this conference, I was also able to meet students from different schools who are also passionate about KIWIN’S. It was a very fun and interesting experience and I look forward to the next event.” — Selene Lam, Palisades Charter High School KIWIN’S Member

OCTOBER EVENTS RECAP AIDSS 2019 WALK WALK
AIDS Walk 2019
October 20th | Grand Park | 7 am - 3 pm “On Saturday, October 19th, I was able to volunteer at the 2019 LA AIDS Walk as a member of Bravo KIWIN’S. This was a fascinating experience that will undoubtedly become a highlight of my year. As a volunteer, myself and many other club members, worked to ensure that the event was able to be executed as smoothly as possible. We arrived early and began to set up our station. After setting up our station and becoming accommodated, we waited for the first group of walkers to arrive. All the while, our club was having extreme amounts of fun and everybody was interacting with one another. Finding new friends was easy, and the atmosphere of cordiality and affability was one I have personally never experienced. Once the first wave of walkers arrived, we began to hand out our designated snacks and water. The gratitude towards us volunteers was astounding, and everyone was grateful for the help we were providing. As volunteers, we were helping out as much as we could, while having an extremely fun time. It was a complete win-win situation. Not once was there a volunteer with a frown on their face. Being able to support the walkers that were attempting to bring awareness and raise money for the AIDS epidemic was quite extraordinary, and the experience itself was eye-opening. After all of the volunteer work was done, we were able to reflect upon the extreme amounts of fun we had while volunteering. Attending the event was worth it, and we all enjoyed ourselves through various planned group activities. I’m glad I was able to support the movement of the AIDS Walk while having fun with, and representing, KIWIN’S.”
