What is the Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF)?

Youth Opportunities Fund The YOF is an endowed fund of the Kiwanis Children’s Fund which provides grants to Key Club and Key Club members for scholarships and service opportunities. Application deadline: October 15th at 11:59 pm, EST.

What is the Key Club International (KCI) Major Emphasis?

“Children: Their Future, Our Focus.” While CNH KIWIN’S Key Club’s Major Emphasis is Live2Learn, Key Club International focuses on “Children: Their Future, Our Focus.” At Key Club International’s first convention in 1946, the organization was challenged to create a program to bring together every Key Club member to focus on making a global impact. That challenge resulted in the creation of the Major Emphasis Program (MEP): “Children: Their Future, Our Focus.” To fulfill the MEP, Key Club International serves children in many ways. By working with Key Club International’s preferred charities, Key Clubs serve children by aiding other organizations committed to serving children.

Who are Key Club International’s Preferred Charities?

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) CMN Hospitals is a nonprofit organization that raises money to benefit hospitalized kids while increasing awareness of its member hospitals. Key Club participates with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals by sponsoring fundraising events or participating in service projects at the more than 170 children’s hospitals affiliated with CMN Hospitals.

March of Dimes Every day, 72 babies die due to preterm birth complications. All year long, YOU can make a difference for all babies. The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. Since 1978, Key Clubs have been making a difference for babies everywhere. Key Club members raise thousands of dollars annually through various programs, including collecting change, holding dances and taking part in March of Dimes’ signature event, March for Babies.

SEPTEMBER EVENTS RECAP

September DCM

September 15th | Pan Pacific Park | 1 - 3 pm “We started first by introducing the presidents to see what they were doing for the clubs. Amanda, from Bravo, went up and talked about club rush, past events that month, upcoming events and talked about how the goal for the club was 60 members. Then, Alexandra , our Lt. G, gave out awards for that month, including club of the month, which Bravo won! Before we did the dog toy making activity, Alexandra wanted us to mingle a bit more so we were split into groups of four to play a treasure hunt game around the park. She gave us the first clue and from there, we were supposed to figure out what the riddle meant and how to find the other clues. This event was pretty fun, but everyone took it much more seriously than we thought, so a lot of people started running places. When we were done, the first team to complete was Andrea’s team and they got cotton candy as a prize. From there, Alexandra, with Sarah, the Pali President, helping, taught us how to make dog toys. It was pretty fun and all of us made decent looking toys. Alexandra gave us some cookies and brownies to eat and Amanda had the idea to make a tik tok for joining KIWIN’S and that’s what we did for the remaining time!” — Grace Chow, Bravo HS KIWIN’S Member

SEPTEMBER EVENTS RECAP

Heal the Bay Coastal Clean-Up

September 21st | Ballona Creek | 9 am - 12 pm “At the event, we put on gloves and took a trash bag and then we went down towards the creek to go pick up trash. Trash was everywhere: in the plants, the water, just on the ground. I tried my best to spot every piece of trash and pick up every piece of trash I saw. It was kind of hard to get the trash buried deep in the bushes, but it was worth it. It was great to see so many people cleaning up the earth. I also went to the wrong location before and there were more people there cleaning up. It was great haha. It was also really hot too and my hands were sweating so much haha but we had some nice cold water to refresh us!”
