Presets Don’t worry about other preset options at this stage; it’s easier to fix them later. Leave them at default for now.

Hey. You there... with the face. Remember: 1. Page Size = width - 8 in height - 10 in (It will automatically convert to pixels.) 2. Columns = 1

Examples of: Body Fonts

Here’s the breakdown: if you’re publishing on print, use a serif font (that’s the little doohickeys that stick out of the letters) like Times New Roman. If you’re publishing on anything backlit -like a computer -you want to be using a sans serif font (like Helvetica if you’re hip).

Title Fonts

With these come a little more freedom. They’re shorter, and therefore can be more stylistic, like Atlas or Rockwell. However, this depends on the current layout team and editor-in-chief. We don’t use Rockwell anymore because it’s overused on menus and Starbucks promos.

Fonts Subtitle Fonts

It’s not design-suicide to match these to the title fonts, but more often than not, it’s pretty boring. not all articles will have subtitles, but when they do, it looks pretty cool if you switch up the serif-sans serif factor (like using Cambria for the title and Brush Script Std for the subtitle).

This alters the frame. Not to be confused with... This, which alters the image itself. This deletes or adds points to an image. For example, to make a triangle, simply delete one of the corners of a square. This creates the frame for images -jpegs and pdfs - and any little thing of color, like the “Toolbar” banner below. To place a photo, press ctrl+D and select the file. To resize the image itself, refer back up the toolbar to the white cursor. To resize the frame, refer farther up to the black cursor.

This rotates things. That’s right. This copies the exact color. Useful for extended backgrounds on photos; for example, the black background on the photo may not match the black on the solid background you put behind it. Despite the spiel, it’s pretty self-explanatory.
