Good afternoon everyone, and welcome back to the VBS Community Stadium for this afternoon’s Women’s Super League match.
Firstly, I want to thank you all for being here and showing your incredible support.
Today, we’re back in Sutton, and I know the team is eager to put in a performance that reflects how hard we’re working every day to improve to close the gap with the top teams in this league.
Reflecting on our last game against Manchester City, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride in the way we approached the challenge. City are the league leaders for a reason, and going up against them was always going to be a big test of our resilience and growth.
While the scoreline doesn’t reflect the grit and spells of quality we showed, it’s important to recognise how far we’ve come in just a few short months. To me, that shows clear progress; the margin may still be there, but we’re tightening it, game by game. Our journey to compete with the best is firmly on track.
That match reminded us of the small details that can make a big difference at this level. We held our shape well, but moments where we hesitated or held onto
the ball too long allowed City to stifle our counter-attacks. It’s about fine-tuning now—making sure we stay sharp and decisive when opportunities come our way. Against teams like City, even a second of hesitation can be costly, but I’m confident that with every game, we’re becoming a more focused and cohesive unit.

intensity from the first whistle to the last. Our emphasis will be on seizing our moments, staying aggressive, and showing the crowd the progress we’ve made. This team is growing in belief, and with your support, I know we can take another positive step forward today.
Today, we turn our attention to Everton. They’re a strong side with their own ambitions in this league, and we’ll need to bring our full
Thank you for being here and for standing with us every step of the way,

Hello, Palace fans! It’s been a challenging but exciting few weeks for us, and I can see the progress we’re making every day.
Looking back on our game against Manchester City, there’s no doubt it was tough. They’re a top team, and the scoreline wasn’t what we aimed for. But there were moments out there which showed just how far we’ve come as a unit and what we’re capable of achieving.
One of the biggest positives for us was our resilience. We managed to frustrate City’s attack, especially in the first-half, where we stuck to our game plan and made things difficult for them. They had to work to break us down, and that’s a big marker of how much we’ve improved defensively.
Our backline and midfield were well-organised and did a great job limiting their chances, especially considering the quality of their front line. It wasn’t perfect, but the fight was there, and it’s something to build upon.
We’ve also learned where we can be better. Against teams like City, every moment counts, and we saw how even a brief lapse can be costly. But that’s part of growing in this league. We’re new here, learning what it takes to compete at this level, and we’re getting closer to where we want to be. We’re hungry to show that we belong here,
and games like last week give us clear points to work on.
Now, we turn our focus to Everton, which is a huge game for us. The match against City has only motivated us further, and we’re ready to put everything we’ve learned into action.
Everton will bring their own challenges, but we’re preparing hard, and we’re aiming to bring a strong, competitive performance to the pitch. The international break was a bit of a challenge in terms of preparation, but the team has gelled quickly, and our spirits are high.
This season is a journey for us. We know it’s about taking each game as a step forward, and we’re focused on using every match as an opportunity to grow, gain confidence, and bring you performances to be proud of. Thank you for your support, Palace fans— it means the world to us to have you behind us as we push forward in the WSL.
Let’s give it everything today and keep making this season one to remember!
Up the Palace!

last time out
Despite a competitive first-half, Crystal Palace eventually slipped to defeat against unbeaten league leaders Manchester City at Selhurst Park.
The game was restricted to very few chances in the first-half, thanks large in part to Palace’s resolute defending and organisation.
City managed to open the scoring just before the half-time whistle however, when England international Jess Park found the top corner with a stunning longrange effort.
The away side doubled their lead five minutes after half -ime, as a fortunate rebound landed at the feet of Netherlands international Jill Roord, who converted the chance from close range.
Palace then had their best spell of the game, with Katie Stengel striking the post in the 66th minute after a fantastic cross from Ashleigh Weerden; Annabel Blanchard, following up, could not shift her feet in time to convert the rebound.
And Khadija Shaw put the result beyond doubt for City in the 73rd minute, as she headed a fine cross from Park into the net from six yards out.
0-3
Man City are top of the table at the moment, so playing against them is a huge challenge. It needs a battle mindset, it needs hard work.

“In terms of where we’re at in our journey… to go 3-0 down to Man City, it shows direct progression for me against Chelsea. That was only five games ago.
“It shows that our journey in closing the gap, and the margins between us and top sides, is on course. We forget that only two months ago, these players landed at the training ground in London.

“I think the girls worked their socks off, you could see that, especially the subs that came on – I thought they did so well and made a difference to us, especially in that second-half when we needed a bit more energy.
“There are definitely some positives we can take from today for sure. We created some chances today. I think Stengie hit the post and you know it’s different if that goes in.
“Some of them have come from a long way apart and had to relocate. These are not excuses, but things don’t happen overnight. This club deserves to compete with these sides and there’s no reason it can’t – but it won’t happen overnight.”
“I think we created some other half-chances so I think it’s just looking at what we’ve done well today – we did some good defensive work – but just making sure we do that over 90 minutes.”

WSL MAINSTAYS
Everton Women have been a nearconstant in the Barclays Women’s Super League since its inception, featuring in all-but-two seasons since the league’s creation in 2010. Whilst they possess the unfortunate record of recording the most defeats in the WSL history (102), Everton did win the FA Women’s Cup in 2010 and come runners-up in 2013/14 and 2019/20.
A DANE IN THE DUGOUT
Brian Sørensen has been the manager of Everton since 2022, after previously managing in his native Denmark since 2009. His approach focuses on developing young talent and integrating exciting prospects into the squad. Under his guidance, Everton have become a cohesive, competitive side, looking to improve on their eighth-place finish last season.
NEW ARRIVALS
The toffees 1983 home
Everton made strategic moves in the summer transfer window, aiming to strengthen the squad for another competitive season. Their additions include Nigeria international Toni Payne from Sevilla; Melissa Lawley from rivals Liverpool; and Spain international Imma Gabarro, bringing added stability to the midfield.
HISTORY AT Sutton
Today’s fixture will be the first-ever competitive meeting between Crystal Palace Women and Everton Women, marking a historic occasion for the Eagles as they test themselves against one of the mainstays in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
Captain Megan Finnigan has been a mainstay in the Everton defence since her debut in 2015. At only 26, Finnigan has made 131 competitive appearances for the Merseyside club and has featured frequently at youth level for England. She was one of the stand-out players in Everton’s impressive draw at Arsenal in
“It is really hard to compete when we are depleted as a squad and have very low numbers and play players in positions that they are not used to. We are working and doing everything we can to get players fit.”
B. Sørensen
