Good afternoon, and a warm welcome to Selhurst Park to Sunderland AFC Ladies. We hope you enjoy your short stay and have a safe journey home.

M

ay I first start by saying what a privilege it is to be playing today’s league match at the ground where I’ve supported my team for many years. The opportunity to play at Selhurst Park in front of our fans will be an amazing occasion for both players and staff of Crystal Palace Women. Thank you to everyone at Crystal Palace Football Club who have made today’s opportunity possible. Today’s opponents have had a fantastic start to the season winning their first two games and sitting at the top of the table with 6 points. An opening day win against a much fancied Coventry United and the second win coming last Sunday against a very well organised Blackburn Rovers, so today we are expecting a tough and well organised Sunderland team who will be looking to continue their fine start. Like Sunderland we started our league campaign with a fantastic entertaining 4-3 win

against Bristol City in front of an amazing 800 plus crowd which was a welcome surprise and gave the players a massive lift. Again, a massive occasion for all involved so thank you to every single one of you that turned up to push the players onto their first 3 points of the campaign. Last weekend’s game frustratingly ended in a 2-1 defeat to London City which we could have easily nicked a point from but unfortunately wasn’t to be. So, after a great week of reflection and preparation the players will know what’s expected of them today and will bounce back from the disappointment of last Sunday and look to get back to winning ways. It’s going to be an exciting encounter but one I’m positive, they can perform in. Enjoy the game COYPW! Best, Dean

T

o be honest, I always thought I was going to leave Arsenal, especially after going on loan. I was coming to the end of the Academy stages and wasn’t being offered a professional contract. So, with that, I know I needed to push myself to an environment where I was playing with women consistently. I had already prepared myself for it, but laving Arsenal still felt a bit weird ad surreal at first, having played there for so long and it being such a big part of me. I suppose I did feel a bit upset, but I knew I needed to move forwards and that it was the right decision for me. But then, as bad as it sounds, I’ve always been a Spurs fan and so have my family! We’re all massive Spurs fans, so when I was young, I didn’t want to wear the Arsenal kit; I used to wear these Tottenham skins underneath it! When I got the offer for a professional contract with Spurs, I called my dad and he became really emotional. This really means a lot to me and my family. Being with Palace for the second half of last season and returning on loan for the new campaign is a fantastic platform and stap in my career. Before joining earlier this year, I knew that Palace was a good environment, and I also knew there were some good coaches like James Marrs. He’s very experienced and I like the way he coaches.

I am still young but I am mature enough to realise that I can’t just work in to professional football. I. want to develop my skills further to become the best version of myself. So I’ve learned to change my game while with Palace. Palace is a good place to gain the experience I need and I find the environment to be really enjoyable; the coaches and

girls create a familiar and sae atmosphere for me to develop in. This is a crucial step towards what I want to achieve in my career at the very top of English football. I’m hugely appreciative for the ways Palace are helping me and this is a key move to reaching where I want to end up. I’m also thank furl to a great club like Spurs for giving me a platform to perform in order to work towards those goals. Gracie pearse
