A MESSAGE FROM STEPHEN BROWETT

Welcome to the 2024 Crystal Palace F.C. Beer Festival. Today we have so much to celebrate and what better way to do that, than with a pint or two of proper beer?

First of all, we celebrate 100 years of Selhurst Park. What would our predecessors - who built this stadium on the site of an old brick works in 1924 - have thought of the progress that the club has made since then? In our first season playing here we were relegated to the Third Division (South). It was a long, hard slog to reach the old Division One in 1969. But, today we raise our glasses to what is, in my opinion, one of the best Crystal Palace teams ever. Not only are we winning games and scoring great goals, but we are playing some of the most attractive football that this old stadium has ever seen. This season has seen a top ten finish in the world’s greatest league, four of our players in the England squad, numerous other internationals from around the world in our team and we look forward to a very bright future under our dynamic new manager.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Crystal Palace Women on promotion to the Women’s Super League for the first time in their history.

When we held our first Beer Festival here, at the start of the CPFC 2010 era, we were pleased to be maintaining our place in the Championship. How times have changed! When Steve, Jeremy, Martin and I (all life-long Palace fans) bought the club out of administration (with our hearts not our heads, I might add) we knew that CPFC was a sleeping giant and it is so exciting for us all to look back now on the progress that has been made since 2010. Now, onto the beer.

Once again, a cracking line-up of top-quality ales and ciders has been assembled for your enjoyment. I would urge you to try a few halves of as wide a range as possible. Crystal Palace are very much “South London and Proud” try not to miss local heroes such as The Kernel (Bermondsey), Sambrooks and Belleville (Wandsworth), Clarkshaws (Brixton) and, of course The Cronx (Croydon), ran by Palace fan Mark Russell. Talking of Palace fans, we also have Titsey (Warlingham), owned by a Palace supporting family and Pretty Decent, made by Jim Piddock’s nephew. Our old friend Neil Morrissey will be here and today is a rare opportunity to try his “Palace Ale” on draught rather than from bottle.

Apart from being loyal to our local independent breweries, we have a fantastic array of beers from as far away as Scotland (don’t miss Fyne Ales’ Jarl), Yorkshire including Roosters, The East Midlands and the West Country. I’m looking forward to trying news beers from the likes of Lincolnshire based Luda Brewery as well as old favourites like Oakham Citra, Hop Back Summer Lightning and Castle Rock Harvest Pale.

To entertain you, we have a host of musicians - including the South London Jazz Orchestra - and of course there is the Palace Aid match on the pitch featuring former players Wayne Routledge and Andy Johnson. This match is being played for Palace for Life Foundation who do fantastic work in our local community.

Thank you for your fantastic support this season and cheers!

Up the Palace

Steve
