Manager’s Comments Dean Davenport With the new start of the season just around the corner and the excitement of playing back in front of the Palace loyal, there's been plenty of positive change at Crystal Palace Women. There's been quite a lot of change over the summer with the recruitment of players and new staff but one of the most important changes is the move for CPFCW into the new Academy Training Complex in Beckenham. A massive thank you goes out to all the current board and owners of Crystal Palace Football Club for giving the Women the opportunity to use the incredible facility as a base we can call our training home. Not only does this move show the intent from the main club towards the Women's team and the ever-growing link and support, it also gives the Women's side of the club a clear structure to move forward in our development, something we are truly grateful for. On the recruitment side of things the summer has been a very busy one! Not only have we recruited no less than 10 new players of fantastic qualities, we have also added to the staff. In comes former Arsenal Under-21s and ex-London City manager Chris Phillips as our new Director of Football. Chris brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of players from the WSL and the Championship. We have also secured the services of Lee Hayes as first-team coach, formerly of Brighton & Hove Albion and most recently Enfield Town. On the playing front, it's not always easy as a manager to let players go, or to see players move on, but it's part and parcel of football. On a personal note I'm truly grateful to those players who wore the badge with pride in our best ever season who have now moved on. Thank you! Whilst adding to the quality we have throughout the summer and with the pre-season preparations nearing an end all I can say is that the players have worked tremendously hard. Although there will be ups and downs in the season they will wear the shirt with pride as expected and deliver a passion that has come to be expected while wearing the Palace badge. So on August 29th we as a football club cannot wait to play in front of the fans again. The last

18 months has been a challenge, to say the least, with the pandemic and the obstacles that come with that. But to be finally able to play back in front of our home supporters - who are again the best in the Championship - against Bristol City is something the playing staff and I have missed for so long. It will be a true blessing and hopefully we can give those loyals something to be proud about. 🔴🔵🦅

Enjoy the game. COYPW! Best, Dean.

AIMEE EVERETT To begin, the youngest of the five new names is 20-year-old Aimee Everett. A fantastic addition to Palace alongside former Leicester City WFC teammate Millie Farrow, the midfielder is looking forward to her future with the club, saying: “I think the club is really developing in the women’s game and doing great things, which is really exciting to be a part of.” Although her story highlights some noteworthy accomplishments in the game, picking up youth plates and Women’s Super League promotions for Liverpool Under-23s and Leicester City WFC respectively, Everett wants to take on more in her new role at Palace, including furthering her evolution as a player: “I don’t think I got to achieve what I wanted as an individual during this time [so far at other clubs]. So I think now, at Palace, I can really focus on my development and progress with the team. “Personally, I’d like to get as many minutes as possible, to gain lots of experience and improve my game. As a club, I’d like to help us win games and improve on where the team finished in the league last year and show how good of a club Palace is.”

CHARLEY CLIFFORD For the second introduction we welcome Charley Clifford. The midfielder joins Palace from long-time club Charlton Athletic Women, having made her firstteam debut at 16, only four years earlier having started training with the Addicks’ Centre of Excellence. The two teams have enjoyed a rivalry over the course of the last season, with Charlton finishing just one point below the south Londoners at the end of the FA Women’s Championship. Clifford references this close playing relationship when discussing the reason she chose Palace as the next chapter of her career: “[It is] the ambition of the club, but also the mentality of the coaching staff and the girls, having played against them for a long period of time.” With over a decade in the game and a vast number of appearances (over 270) for her former club, the 28-year-old is a stellar addition to Dean Davenport’s side. She carries that experience in her desires for the squad as a whole, as well as herself, wanting “to help the team achieve a higher league position than last season [and] to improve as a player, on a personal level.”

LEANNE COWAN Like Clifford, ex-London City Lioness Leanne Cowan brings up the clashes she played against Palace, noting it was what she saw within the team’s dynamic that sparked the confidence in her decision to transfer. “The work ethic of the girls is something I'd always had great admiration for and playing against Palace was always a tough game,” she said. “I also saw the unity and togetherness of the group and it was something I wanted to be part of. “I knew from the off I would be developed as an athlete, player and person, which was important for me, as I needed an environment that would challenge me in a variety of ways to make me better.” Joining the academy ranks with Millwall at just eight-years-old, she cemented herself within the club’s first-team a decade later. Cowan’s determination to succeed is evident and will no doubt be of immense value to the squad’s future: “I want to help the team win as many games as possible and play as many games as I can. I had a frustrating last season… so I just want to get out there and enjoy it. I would love to help the club achieve its highest finish in the Championship.”

MILLIE FARROW For Millie Farrow, it was hopes of “finding the love of the game again” that acted as the forward’s motivation to step in to a new kit. “I’ve faced many challenges throughout my career so far and have had some major lows, but I’m signing for Palace hungrier than ever,” she said. Farrow expressed it was the coaches’ role that helped stabilise her identity within the club’s infrastructure: “I feel that the coaching staff believe in me and I can see that they’re willing to push me to my full potential, and for me, that’s a huge part of why I came to Crystal Palace. I want to be able to play with confidence and feel relaxed… and just from being here for a few weeks I can tell I made the right decision.” Having most recently played for Women’s Super League side Leicester City WFC, Farrow has participated in the top levels of women’s football, experience that will certainly act as fuel for Palace’s upward aspirations: “The ambition of the club is very exciting and as a whole the club is definitely heading in the right direction. I am really invested in growing with the squad and seeing what we achieve throughout the season.”

MOLLY-MAE SHARPE Former Durham WFC forward Molly-Mae Sharpe echoes Farrow’s emphasis on coaching as the tipping factor in her decision to transfer to the south Londoners. “The coaching style they implement at Palace definitely enticed me in, as well as the importance on developing me as a player. It’s a massive club with great aspirations and it just felt like something I really wanted to be involved in!” With a playing history that goes back to female football camps across England before reaching the professional leagues, the 24-year-old is no stranger to what it takes to craft a love of the game, wanting to embody that for the next generation: “I enjoy helping to develop girls’ football abilities and love to see them enjoying [the sport] from a young age!” A definite asset to the team for the new season, Sharpe ends by telling us both her individual and collective goals for the future: “As a striker, I want to be able to score and assist as many goals as possible while creating a good environment for my teammates. As a team I think it would be brilliant for this club to push on and continue building to eventually get promoted to the WSL.”

We also say a big hello and welcome to the family to: Molly Smith – who joins us from London City Lionesses.

Emily Orman – joins us on a season long loan from WSL side Chelsea FC.

Grace Coombs – former Charlton Athletic captain.

Sophie McLean from newly relegated London Bees.
