Should ideally be completed during Summer. Students should use their College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) Account credentials to begin the RDS application.
Many students will already have created their CFNC logins at their high schools with their senior class, but if a student does not yet have a CFNC login, please encourage them to create one.
The RDS interview is designed to provide students with in-state status for tuition purposes at any North Carolina public college or university.
At completion of the RDS Interview, students will be provided their in-state or out-of-state determinations and will also be provided with their unique Residency Classification Number (RCN) that is required for any North Carolina admissions applications. Even if a student is Undocumented and will only receive out-of-state tuition, they still need to complete the RDS interview to obtain their RCN.
Students will need Parental information to complete their RDS Interview, so please encourage parents to sit down with students and complete this form with their parents. Don’t guess information!
Students and parents can watch the recording of our July 25 webinar Introduction to RDS.
Students and parents can also watch the recording of our August 21 webinar College Funding 101, which touches on RDS as well as FAFSA, CSS Profile and other related topics.
