The North Dakota State Forum on Public Safety presents an opportunity for key local stakeholders to learn about the state’s ongoing efforts to understand and address crime trends, develop pretrial services, and expand alternatives to incarceration to relieve pressures on county jails. Discussion at the forum will focus on identifying possible solutions to address upticks in crime and jail and prison overcrowding. North Dakota has been selected by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance to hold this forum as a continuation of the 50-State Summit on Public Safety that was held in November 2017 in Washington, DC. The forum will be hosted by the North Dakota Justice Reinvestment Oversight Committee and will be facilitated by a representative from The Council of States Governments Justice Center. North Dakota’s Forum: The North Dakota State Forum on Public Safety will be divided into three panel discussions: • Proactive policing and crime prevention • Making the case for pretrial services • Expanding cost effective alternatives to incarceration to reduce the overreliance on jail and prison We look forward to your participation.
