editor’s note
The best part of summer is the season of spring that preludes it, making the world look like an oversized garden abloom with amazing flora and fauna. Bright chrysanthemums, vibrant sunflowers, fabulous lilies and bold dahlias dot the gardens, the side walks and our little kitchen gardens. Spring also take over DLF Place as we get ready to welcome vibrant new collections for a new season into our stores. Enhancing your shopping experience are many great offers that both the stores and the mall are rustling up for our valued patrons. Like the annual Denim Festival that is one of the biggest marketing endeavours of DLF Place. All set to be flagged off on the 20th of April, the festival will combine the best of fashion, art, music and entertainment linking denim to plebian life of creative freedom. On the anvil are gigs, style camps, denim inspired art and a series that celebrate me and my denim. Also adding to the DLF Place experience is the all new restaurant block that spoils you for choice. The finest of grills, oriental, South Indian, Gujarati and continental cuisine comes alive in restaurants like Turquoise Cottage, Polo Tropical, Kaustabh and Barbeque Nation. Slowly but surely we are becoming one of the most happening food destination. And The Place for listening to good music. With Turquoise Cottage and Hard Rock Cafe under one roof that experience gets doubly enhanced. This summer we add to the shopping experience with special offers, promotional and experiential platforms ensuring that there is a bang for every buck. Hamleys, the dream destination for every child continues to lure both the child and the parent while popular brands like Elle, Only, Claire’s etc ensure the youth make this their Place to be in.

s the summers set in, the feel is very light and relaxed. After winters of heavy woolens and dark colors, bright yet subtle shades provide relief. Be dainty as a lassie as no exaggerations, minimalism and simplicity become the key words for this season. Maxi dresses, pants, soft blouses, knee-length skirts, winking transparencies and prints with bold colors are in this season. The colors for the season are white, earth, cream, red, pink, black and turquoise green.

Denims get more dramatic this season. Normal is boring and whacky is the new normal. do not underestimate this most basic wardrobe piece to be devoid of any innovation. Denim becomes daring carving out new trends and spinning the staples around. Bold and fun prints, different silhouettes, loud colors and newer treatments, all of this has certainly bought denim a long way. SONY XPERIA Z With a cutting-edge camera, a super-slim design and the ability to withstand life’s knocks and bumps (and Android Jelly Bean to boot) the Xperia Z is a phone that’s got us fired up about Sony Mobile again. Earlier handsets such as the Sony Xperia S and Sony Xperia T were extremely promising from a brand striking out on its own - but it’s with the Xperia Z that Sony is really banking on making a cataclysmic dent in the makeup of the smartphone market. The Sony Xperia Z rocks in at 139 x 71 x 7.9mm/5.47 x 2.79 x 0.31 inches, so there’s little room for anything else in your hands. But it’s amazing how quickly you’ll adapt. At 146g/5.15oz, it’s by no means the lightest handset out there - but the Sony Xperia Z exudes a heftiness that belies a quality device.
NIKON D5200
The D5200 is physically almost identical to its predecessor, and almost all of the changes are internal, including key systems borrowed from the enthusiastoriented D7000. SINFUL SUMMER You can eat light, remain cool and yet have a flavourful blast this season… we recommend some specials
By: Anoothi Vishal
Cool fruity shakes, flavoured yoghurts and smoothies, those wonderful tall drinks, lightly tossed salads that leave your palate tingling and long lunches with friends and the prospect of a delicious summer slumber in your eyes. Who says that summers cannot be fun? If winter is the time to gorge on all that heavy-duty stuff, summer comes with its own lighter charm. Just remember to order something light, fresh and perhaps lemony or fruity! Thanks to the Mall Magazine team, I recently spent an afternoon going through the menus of six popular restaurants that dot the DLF Place. I tried a mix of coolers, light starters, salads, mains and desserts and am happy to say that I was spoilt for choice as I attempted to handpick a couple of my favourite dishes to recommend to you for this season.
1.
CAFE MOCHA
Café Mocha: This is the place that I would go to for all those milky cool shakes. From Lindt to Bounty to Kit Kat (and now even Kinder Joy) shakes, you can have your favourite chocolate dissolved into liquid pleasures. Or try the strawberry cheesecake and blueberry concoctions blitzed, whisked and poured into a glass. They have an extensive range of margaritas on the menu. Originally a Mexican, tequila-based cocktail, a margarita is an ideal summer drink—since it is served either shaken with ice or blended with ice (frozen margaritas) though of course you can have one straight up too. The original recipe had the orange-based cointreau in it. My cucumber concoction was totally summer-fresh. You can have a light snack such as a juicy chicken satay or one of those sinful desserts (try the chocolate avalanche) alongside.
2.
59
aglio olio is how I judge any place and its pastas. At the Big Chill it may BIG CHILL The not be on the regular menu, but you can always ask for it. Simply tossed in
3. For simpler pleasures or in case you can’t remain without your donuts, head to this store. I tried their mango donut in keeping with the spirit of the season and would recommend the flavour to you. But what are definitely worth a try are also their coladas— of course, sans alcohol. The pina colada can be the quintessential tropical drink, try the Dunkin version. Or the litchee one that was also very fresh.
garlic and olive oil, this is pasta that takes me back to Italy and all its pleasures. On a summer afternoon I would recommend this to you. But the best part of this visit to Big Chill was definitely the strawberry pavlova. The dessert is supposed to be meringue-based with a crisp crust and soft, light inside. Big Chill does a different version and uses ice cream with fresh strawberries, turning this into a sundae.

4. TGIF
HARD ROCK CAFE
5.
Need more salad options, head to TGIF. The Caesar salad is unbeatable. An evergreen creation, the recipe was created by Italian chef Caesar Cardini in 1924 at his restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico and the salad was prepared and served right at the table. The romaine lettuce is crisp, there are enough homemade croutons on the plate, olive oil, garlic, parmesan cheese, a dash of Worcestershire sauce et al. What you need to think about though is going for the Jungle drink that TGIF has introduced this season. Served in the tallest of contraptions and a potent mix of all the spirits, this one literally packs a punch.
Other than just hanging at the bar, one can make a meal of it with some of those Hard Rock classics: their thick juicy burgers, delicious onion rings et al. However, this season, you may like to fill up on the salads here. The Honey Citrus Salad is a definite yes on a summer afternoon or even as light dinner: Fresh greens have been tossed with crunchy bits of onions, red pepper strips, pecan nuts and luscious orange segments with a citrusy-sweet dressing of course. Request for a non vegetarian version and fill up on some protein. Another must have is the Greek salad: full of juicy tomatoes, crisp cucumbers and peppers, olives and salty feta cheese. It’s healthy and delicious. Dream on about an evening in Crete with this one‌

It plays with colours and textures of food articles to depict human elements, stories, logos and is primarily used for marketing these days. It gives the largely universal recipe of a dish a twist acting as a point of differentiation and makes this necessity of life a fun activity. Chef Dodo who is presently working with a consulting firm contributing to the R&D in the culinary industry has mastered this art and has come up with various interesting compositions. The five new restaurants opening up in DLF Place, Saket have perfectly imbibed this strategy and serve extremely delicious food in a very interesting manner.
Turquoise Cottage has a philosophy of using music as a way of making one enjoy their great food. The restaurant serves an extensive oriental cuisine providing its customers with Thai, Chinese, Japanese delicacies. Some of the popular dishes are Pla Phed Prik, Mofu Tofu, Japanese style Yaki Tori, Nasi Goreng Indonesian style noodles and Tom Yum soup. They also serve a wide variety of alcoholic beverages and mocktails. The restaurant attracts its customers by having live gigs, great music and delicious food. It has been a harbinger of rock in the city for over a decade and therefore stands as an interesting option. A meal for two is priced at `1400 with alcohol.

The ambience of the restaurant makes one feel as though they are in a homely environment wherein the innate love for ‘ghar ka khana’ is taped upon. A meal for two is priced at ` 300.
Barbeque Nation is a novel restaurant that primarily serves barbequed vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes through an extensive buffet. It is a concept-dining restaurant that has a live charcoal grill on the table where in the guests can finish the skewers on to their own taste applying various marinades and condiments. It is the pioneer in DIY i.e. Do It yourself cuisine which makes it unique. Visitors go ga-ga about the barbeques served of which the Barbarian Grilled Chicken, Bahamian Ribs, Mexican Drumsticks, Grilled Artichokes and Cajun Spiced Potatoes are the signature recipes. The restaurant has an interesting ambience with a fire theme. A meal for two is priced at `1500.
Rajdhani Thali Restaurant has revived the traditional way of serving food in India and eating out of a Thali with your family. The restaurant serves a highly nutritious and delicious Indian pure vegetarian meal with a menu that changes each day. The empty Thali is transformed into an appetizing kaleidoscope of complementing colours, textures and flavors with unlimited helpings. Rotis, theplas, gatte ki subzi, kadhi, dal, katta and undhiyu are some of the most popular dishes at Rajdhani. A meal for two is priced at ` 700.
Polo Tropical is a new addition to the array of restaurants in India. Originating from Miami, the restaurant promises to cure tastebud boredom. It is a world of tropical flavours, which started out by serving citrus-marinated grilled chicken. They serve fresh chicken devoid of trans-fats and hormones. From their signature grilled chicken and slow roasted mojo pork, to world-renown Create Your Own TropiChops, nothing surprises and delights like their fresh-made food served in a Caribbean inspired atmosphere. Its time for flora fun as the garden comes alive everywhere. Flowers on bags, shoes, blouses, dresses and hair.... its a floral summer that has gripped DLF Place and its also my favorite statement this season.
2
I love the window of Accessorize that plasters the word bloom and then laces the glass with a very flirty, floral wall paper. Inside the accessory stores at the mall you can find some gorgeous solid color bags, hair-bands, bangles, necklaces etc in poppy red, sunflower yellow, neon green and psychedelic orange. I specially love the vibrant scarves at Claire’s. Another hot favorite this season is the new range of tarocco orange made of eucalyptus and sage at Crabtree and Evelyn that leave you feeling fresh and charged.
My haunt this summer is the restaurant block that will bring together many of your favorite eateries under one street. From the Gujarati thali at Rajdhani to the grills at Polo tropical to the South Indian offering at Kaustabh and the choice of music at Turquoise Cottage.... I think its going to add a great dimension to the mall experience.

FLOWER POWER AND DENIM FESTIVAL TOGETHER WITH GREAT FOOD MAKES THIS SUMMER A TOTAL DELIGHT
Its April and time to celebrate every contemporary fashion addict’s favorite attire: Denim. The Denim Festival this season adds color to denims that can be worn with any shade of neon and bright solids. Its one of my statements as well.
How about making a splash with a new bar full of cocktail accessories. Summers are the season to down tall, cool drinks and I love the new range of colored and etched wine goblets at Pure.

The holiday season is round the corner. Time to hunt for some sassy resort wear at our fashion stores. The striped dresses in soft pastel shades being my hot favorite in the mall. Also the great swim-wear.
In shoes it is peep toes that rule this summer. Also beach sandals in bright fluorescent colors.
In fact its a color strong summer made even happier with flora fun.
