Steer clear of the bronzer this season as it is best suited for sunny summers. Instead, opt for warm pinks, old rose and coral hues. Remember to invest in a good blush brush as well as a contouring brush to create those sculpted supermodel cheek bones. hats are what would set you apart in a room full of people or a street crowded with pedestrians. They are also the very first thing that would not only get you noticed but also etch you in others’ memory long after you have left the place. So, choose wisely what sits atop your head, compliments your face structure and defines your features.
OBLONG or RECTANGULAR FACE: Celebrity: Sarah Jessica Parker/Kate Beckinsale An oblong or rectangular face could be angular but not always as the cheekbones are not any or much wider than the forehead and jawline. This face shape has characteristics similar to a square one, except that these are longer. The first target should be to avoid adding any more length, hence, keep away from tall hats and narrow brims. Flared and wide brims will seem to have added width to the face. Push the hat down on your forehead to make it look smaller.

This is one of the most common face shapes, along with round. A square face does not narrow much from cheekbones to forehead and vice versa. It may also look angular as the jawline might appear sharply-angled at the corners.
A round face’s widest point is across the cheekbones, narrowing a bit at the forehead and jawline. Since round faces often look full and short, go for tall and shallow hats to add some length. A wide brim would help the face look slimmer. Slant your hat or look for asymmetrical angles to distract from facial curves. Avoid rounded crowns as it will only add more roundness to your face.
The aim should be to soften those angles and minimise that strong jaw. A large brim, a rounded crown or curvy lines not only soften the features but also add length. A hat that sits high on forehead, like a signature Che Guevara beret, is just an example.

Sometimes also called the inverted triangle, heart-shaped faces are widest at the forehead, narrowing towards the jawline and chin. While this pretty face shape would look good in any type of hat, one should avoid too small brims as they would make the forehead look bigger. PROTECT Got your hands on those stylish high-heels to go with your trench coat or jackets and can’t wait to show them to the whole world? Still, wait! Always spray new shoes with a waterproofing product to increase their water resistance before you start using them. A regular usage enhances the footwear’s original protective qualities. For leather, you can even try the highlyrecommended saddle soap. Made of lanolin, neatsfoot oil and glycerol, it acts as protective, waterproofing and softening agent. Just wipe the boot with a damp cloth, create lather with the soap using water and a cleaning cloth. Apply this lather to the boot, allow to dry a bit and wipe off. (Caution: It can darken some leather so test spot first.)

Shoe trees might look like ugly weapons of shoe care but give fabulous results. They allow your recently-worn shoes to contract and dry out to their ideal shape. Varnished trees look posh, but they don’t properly draw moisture (or sweat) out of the leather. Go for unfinished cedar models with a split toe and a fully shaped heel. The vital time for using them is the hour or two after you have removed the shoes from your feet. After that, the shoes will have returned to their natural architecture and the trees can be removed. All types of shoes should be kept clean. If your shoes are leather, keep them well polished. For synthetic ones, a regular wipe down with warm water helps remove dirt. Scuffs: Never ever give in to the temptation of scrubbing those ugly scuff marks on your leather shoes. Dip a soft cloth in water, then baking soda and rub the spots gently. Then wipe clean with a damp cloth and buff dry. For rubber, follow the same process, just substitute baking soda with your kitchen scouring powder. This stronger treatment works on wooden or composite heels too. The wet cleaning that works for leather or rubber doesn’t for suede as it needs to stay dry to keep its texture. So, for suede, rub off all dirt with a kneadable eraser or lightly sand away with an emery paper. Oil stains can be removed from suede boots by rubbing as soon as possible with either cornmeal or talcum powder. Gently brush off with a towel after leaving for a few hours to soak up the grime. Salt stains: If you have been to a place where it snows and salt is used on the streets to keep them clear of snow, your boots are going to pick up the salt. It mars the look, weakens the fabric and rusts metallic parts. Still wet salt lines can be quickly fixed by wiping over the leather boot with a damp, warm cloth and leave to dry. Dried-on salt lines can be removed with commercial products or you can combine equal parts of vinegar and water to make a liquid solution. Dip a cleaning rag into the solution and wipe around the salt line. To finish, use a clean damp cloth to wipe off the solution and any remaining salt line. Wipe with a dry towel, then leave to dry away from direct heat, which can make leather brittle. When dry, buff. For suede, use eraser or emery paper.

At winter’s end, never store boots without cleaning them first and ensuring that they are completely dry. Otherwise, you risk finding moldy, cracked and possibly ruined boots next winter. Stains left too long may set permanently and weaken the boot. And, mold that grows on one boot can cross-contaminate other shoes, boots and items of clothing stored in the same vicinity. Do not store boots in plastic bags. Suede and leather need to breathe and plastic bags restrict this ability, drying out the boot and trapping mold. Better choices include pillowcases, fabric shoe bags and cloth bags. Store boots away from direct light or heat sources. Straight hair Make the cut: True, straight hair does have a tendency to reflect light and shine more than other hair types but it is also prone to falling flat – especially if you have straight hair with a fine texture. Volume issues need to be addressed by your hairstylist while figuring out a hair cut for you. Do not opt for razor cuts – it is better to opt for blunt styles or those that cut straight across. Adding a few long layers is an option—it softens the lines and creates movement. Though too many can thin out the bottom and make the hair appear
stringy. Go to a hair salon that indulges in dry cutting with scissors so that you can add some structure to your hair. Bobs are another great option for those with medium or shoulder-length hair. Bangs are advised on long hair, but not if the hair is too fine as they won’t hold their shape.
Style it right: Prefer styles with soft waves and back combing at the crown to add volume, density and movement to your hair. Make a volumising hairspray your best friend during the party season.
Wavy hair Make the cut: Those with wavy hair have the best of both worlds and it is interesting to create new looks. You would want to stick to cuts that incorporate evenly-spaced layers. If your length is long, a side swept bang or flick will flatter you. If your hair is medium in length, ask your hair stylist for layers that frame your face. Avoid blunt or bob styles with short and shoulder-length wavy hair. With short or shoulder length, it is best to avoid layers as the structure of the hair may end up looking triangular as it reaches the neck and shoulders. Curly hair Make the cut: The biggest concern here is to avoid the hay-like appearance. Your hair cut should enhance the softness of your strands. For curly hair, it is best to work on freshly-washed and conditioned tresses. If you want to keep your length, ask your hairstylist to slice out hair a little from the bottom to make them more manageable. This way they look softer and you can easily style ponytails with the tamed volume. Medium-length curly hair needs slicing at different lengths to keep them looking fluid. If you want your curly tresses short and sweet, go for pixie cuts or styles

Too much blush? Let’s face it – it’s not very easy to get the same amount of blush on both your cheeks. Sometimes you overdo it and end up with either too much on both or one cheek. If you’ve gone overboard with powder blush, dust on some loose powder to even it out. No, it’s not Bangkok, it’s Phnom Penh’s expatswarmed posh area. About BBK, Song Saa’s director of sales and marketing, Nick Chandler, avers, “I’ve lived in Melbourne and San Francisco. There’s an electricity in the air here now that surpasses both.” A swank new restaurant, café, bar or spa opens every day. The capital has hastened. So does my heart when I realise a smoothie shot marked 6.50 is in US$. All prices are. I can’t say what the Cambodian currency is (really), but I’ll say Cambodia has transcended tragedy and temples!
Rising heights I’m wallowing in the marvel of Le Chocolat’s mocha, at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra, amid Parisian intimacy as the muddy Mekong flows thickly like a chocolate river outside. PR Manager Natalie Moser points out at the

construction beyond, “In four months, they’ve stacked four storeys. Spoils our view, but demonstrates Phnom Penh’s frenetic development.” “It’ll be a luxury mall,” Natalie imparts. I grimace. It seems the time at Sofitel has stalled at La Coupole, a French colonial recreation where macarons swing in curious bird cages, vegetables sit on twowheeled contraptions and fromages affinés (ripened cheeses), flown in from France, are displayed on wooden carts.
Pretty in pink The award-winning So Spa has soFrench blushing-pink therapy suites, embroidered in Khmer curlicues, and a spa menu structured like a culinary one. Pen Sopheak effects the Kingdom’s best massages for starters and Clarins Facials for mains. Spa excesses notwithstanding, I’m next engorging Hachi’s terrific Japanese cuisine.
Ma Chérie, restraint! Mustn’t sink that private island (I’m Song Saa-bound).
On a song! Off the speedboat, to a welcome of towels chilling on flowered ice beds decorated with king coconuts spouting bamboo straws. “They grow in the village on the facing island,” a staff member beams. Amused, I ask, “You just pick them off trees?” A senior staff member asserts urgently, “They are customised for Song Saa Private Island (the straws, not the coconuts) by fishing villages the resort supports.” A look at my villa, with a pool, sitting pretty atop a hill, suggests if you would even throw a kitchen sink at co-owner Melita Hunter she’ll change it into some fascinating decorative device. Fetch her a trunk and in it she’ll classily camouflage the mini-bar; without deranging whose contents I’m already inebriated by views of lofty mist-molten rain forests

At Governor’s House, the chandelier comes stooping down four floors in a Bohemian rhapsody
reflecting beautifuly on emerald waters. No bling-blue Maldivian seas here, but sunset makes sky look spectacular in red, orange and mauve. The neighbouring Spa Sanctuary descends into the second island the resort bestrides, manager Narayana Prasad tells one. He has crafted an excursive tripartite menu, including Īla Kaaya Kalpa massage, Rain Forest and Ananda Facials. At the wall-less, over-water Vista, one of the most astounding restaurants, the new chef sprinkles supper with tales of his times at Aman Resorts, where a female couple visited with their child, who happened to be a teddy-bear! He flew First Class, was ordered meals for and was tucked into bed in his own villa ($1500 a night). My eyes circumnavigate Song Saa’s guests. They seem more sensible by far.

I’m boating to the mangroves. Resident conservationist Barnaby says they’ve civilised the fishermen, not so the fish. ‘Don’t feed the animals.’ A barracuda might take off your hand, along with the 10-carat solitaire on it. We’re kayaking through mangroves; Barnaby enlarges on how Song Saa has educated, empowered and elevated local communities, relaying future projects to sophisticate fisher-folk here. We return to the boat, across which our boatman is stretched, straw-hat on face, arms on chest. “Bong!” Barnaby roars, repeatedly. Nothing adds to slumber more than serene surroundings. You’re in bliss when you can nip into a nap at work!
Next stop: Park Hyatt Siem Reap I’d been mailing my travel travails to a certain Sholto Smith, thinking he’s some front-office minion. When I finally reach the just-launched and enviously stylish hotel, I’m swept into a perfect pink lobby-lounge – The Living Room. Here, the tallest man I have ever seen, over-shooting the Park Hyatt’s tower (he
seems endless!) stoops down stylishly, widens a Louis Vuitton card-holder and presents his card. He is the GM. He is Sholto Smith! He looks like he just stepped off a Louis Vuitton ad! The Living Room’s where the ‘Park Hyatt people’ (those beautiful creatures who shop at Cartier) fiddle around with high teas, tended fingers curled preciously around macarons like Cartier pink diamonds or excavating jade pandan crème brûlée. Lesser mortals appreciating palm sugar ice cream (5 scoops, I pledge) at the hotel’s Glass House luxury deli are generally expats. In-house guests prefer the art exhibits on terraces exhaling chic, those signature Bill Bensley swings you can dine the elegant Khmer cuisine on. In the courtyard, an arching Banyan tree makes a spectacle of itself in an earthenware. It’s the cynosure, but only till the privatepooled villas are launched, into which the people will banish themselves, emerging only to luxuriate around the new pool. And, perhaps to dine on French chef-owner Rivière’s cunning Khmer dishes at Cuisine Wat Damnak. Think 2-3 select, hand-picked ingredients intensified in vivid, lingering preparations. Extraordinaire! When the degustation announces choco-coco crumble for dessert, I decide to martyr myself in silent suffering.
From home to hotel Back in Phnom Penh, I’m recommended Governor’s House by Alain Garnier, the converter of once Cambodian Governor’s residences into the quirkiest
boutique hotels. The chandeliers there come stooping down four floors (a Bohemian rhapsody of artefacts) as Rachmaninov (Piano Concerto II) blazons from dawn. Garnier is also a scion of Belgium’s oldest, foremost antique-dealer families, a would-be chocolatier and frequenter of Belgium’s Philip II for ‘gorgeous supper and homemade breakfast yoghurt’ (whether a Michelin-starred Frenchman trained his chef remains unattested). I’ll say he has taste and adores beautiful things (not necessarily inanimate). The dumber appointments seem pricier, certainly Churchill’s desk and chair, given that his nether regions (we’ve AG’s assurances on that) are impressed there. This live-in museum-cum-opera houses the capital’s most creative rooms: suite Marilyn opens into a jacuzzi parked behind the bed!
Food paradise Last year, I said I’d return to Phnom Penh just to eat at Malis. This year I find myself eating much more. But Cambodia’s gourmet Godfather Luu Meng prevails. Cambodia once cowered beside the culinary colossus that’s Thailand. Tables are turning (despite Thai scorn of what they snigger is listless Khmer cuisine) as Meng, who wowed and wooed international gastronomes and acquired celebrity, refines and redefines Khmer cuisine. I hear the chef dashes into his kitchen, dons an apron, dashes out, suited, on-time to receive a VIP emerging from a Rolls Royce. So, when the furiously busy chef attends me around the town, its denizens remark that even the visiting New Zealand premier wasn’t thus honoured. He, I doubt, was treated to Meng’s humour, ticklish like the Kampot pepper which he has propelled to international fame. If Malis is besieged it’s because the King is dining there, if not some president or Gordon Ramsay. You can avail of fine French cuisine and premium Valrhona chocolate desserts at sister restaurant Topaz’s snazzy terrace. Guest list and seating The best thing about a BBQ is that you can invite more people than you can for a formal sit-down dinner. A great way to provide more seating for your guests is to bring those patio chairs inside if you have space as you really don’t need a table for a BBQ party. You can also invite all those friends, neighbours and relatives whom you have not seen for some time as it’s easier to manage food for many people in a BBQ. Relax! Here we tell you how to lose those extra kilos within a span of 15 to 20 days and get in shape. First and foremost, pledge not to give in to any temptation and go on a strict diet. As dietician Honey Tondon from Columbia Asia Hospital, Gurgaon, says, “A person needs to be on a healthy diet and should opt for a balanced lifestyle including intensive workout for weight reduction.”

Initial five days, kick-start your mornings with a cup of hot lime juice with honey, followed by a protein-rich breakfast like sprouts, shakes made with soy protein or oats. For lunch, you can have a small bowl of rice, three different steamed vegetables and one chapati. In beverage, have sugarless green tea and in the evening have a bowl of sprouts or fibreless fruits. For dinner, have two to three chapatis with a bowl of dal and a bowl of boiled vegetables. Make sure you have your lunch before 1.30pm, evening snacks before 5pm and dinner before 7.30pm. “Even if you are on a diet, salads and fruits are the safest things to binge on when you are feeling hungry,” Honey adds. “For a balanced diet, an individual’s protein intake should be kept moderate and fat intake as minimal as possible (just about 5-10 grams a day), whereas intake of carbohydrates decreases from person to person.”
On the sixth day till the next one week, the first thing you can have in the morning is a cup of hot lime juice with honey or green tea. Have a protein meal for breakfast; one medium cup of brown rice, one or two chapatis and steamed vegetables or vegetable salad for lunch. In the evening, have green tea without sugar and a bowl of fruit. For dinner, have a bowl of salad or boiled vegetables with one or two chapatis. Later, you can squeeze your dinner to a bowl of sprouts or a bowl of fibre containing fruits and continue with the rest as it is. Also, club the diet plan with one hour of brisk walk. For better results, you can walk for 10 minutes and jog for 5 minutes and continue doing the same for an hour. You can also sweat it out in the gym or do yoga. The Fashion Bloggers Meet Second Edition
After a successful run of the first edition of Fashion Bloggers Meet, DLF Promenade hosted a bigger and better sequel with a heightened enthusiasm and great collections. The mall patrons witnessed the fashion drama unfold in front of them as the style experts got together to spread and share their affection and understanding of fashion. An unlimited access to fashion vaults of various brands inside the mall, with best of the make-up from Inglot and hair experts from Looks to their aid, the young bloggers were ably armed to create their own unique take on the ideal look for the season. Once again, the platform brought together the best in the blog world for the most exciting of the competitions, which was judged by none other than the feisty young designer Anupama Dayal and Dior boutique director Bhumika Pant. The bloggers styled their muses in the best of fall/winter trends available at the numerous brands housed in DLF Promenade. The bloggers-turned-stylists then created two looks of their choice on a male and female model, who then sashayed down the runway sporting them in style.
Anupama was equally effusive in her praise for the event. “It feels great to be a part of this exciting Fashion Bloggers Meet being organised by DLF Promenade. It’s a great platform to encourage the blogging community, especially now, when they are taking the world by storm,” she said, though not forgetting to give an advice to the new stylists. “I hope this encourages them and we have more youngsters expressing their personal style without being influenced by general trends.” The looks were judged on the criteria of overall impact, wearability, originality, detailing and presentation. Children’s Day Kids were witness to a memorable Children’s Day at DLF Promenade. Their fun and frolic wasn’t limited to November 14 alone but continued for four days, from November 14 to 17. The mall played its part in bringing smiles on the faces of kids from NGO Saksham. They got a chance to play at Kiddyland, saw Krissh 3 at DT Cinemas, got their minime made and got gifts from Smart Kidz Toys. MineMe also created a nice set up at Kiddyland, offering special discounts to kids. The four days were full of exciting activities, like tattoo making, drawing competition, balloon modelling, magic show, face painting, puppet show and pottery decoration. The kids also had many opportunities to win prizes and gifts vouchers from Smart Kidz Toys, Crocs and Kidology.
