A NEW YEAR, A NEW ORBIT A new catalogue. A gaze at the stars up above. We send our hopes and expectations for the new year with butterflies in our stomach. What will we get back in return? The world’s economy will probably keep giving us challenges but we, nonetheless, have great events to look forward to this year. And when the difficult times call for the guiding stars of culture and tradition, SELECT will meekly step forward to deliver balls and equipment for the sports that must and should continue to give people joy and happiness. As sports are a universal community of big and small stars, of amateurs and professionals, and a pool of talent bound together by a force of gravity that orbits around a life-giving centre of rotation called equipment. Sports are teamwork that is at its strongest in – for example – football and handball. So we are looking forward to witness this teamwork at play when the UEFA European Football Championship is played in Ukraine and Poland this year. And we are also looking forward to witness the common fighting spirit at the handball games at the Olympics in London. It will be a galactic experience!

THE ORIGIN Light years back, before the era of modern football began, SELECT’s founder, Eigil Nielsen, wrote the first lines in the story of the laceless ball and the development which has led to the ball sport’s universe we know today. When Eigil Nielsen invented the original Brillant Super more than half a century ago, it had a Big Bang effect on football lighting one of the brightest stars in the sport sky. SELECT has since revolutionised both the football and handball world with the 32 small panels that form the basis of the balls used for all football and handball tournaments all over the world today. THE GIRLS’ FOOTBALL With its reduced weight and size compared to a standard football VISION has been especially developed for girls. HANDBALLS The Street Series STREET HANDBALL Street Handball is a fun and educational game which basically looks like handball – and then not really. With inspiration from e.g. basketball the game has its own set of rules and equipment. You do not need a hall, a court or a special surface to play Street Handball. The game can be played inside and outside – in the school yard, in the garden, on the street or parking lot. As official partner SELECT has developed a special, soft ball which makes it possible to play the game regardless of age, level and gender. The ball can be squeezed and is easy to catch and control. It cannot bounce and does not need to be pumped full of air. Since the game can take place on asphalt the ball is made from an extremely durable synthetic leather material. AT THE FINAL FRONTIER A goalkeeper is the last frontier guard. A goalkeeper is the last redoubt of the team – staying furthest back with slightly bent knees, weight placed on the front foot and hands wearing a pair of gloves that ensure him grip and control; in other words, the confidence needed for him to stand his ground. It will not come as a surprise to anyone that the goalkeeper is the only one on the field who may use his hands in football. These are the rules and they are unavoidable… but evolution is not. All gloves have undergone a major development this year which has affected them all the way from their innermost to their outermost layer. Two new stars have also been added to the horizon, namely two glove models for Futsal goalkeepers. GOALKEEPER GLOVES The technical details The development the series has undergone has resulted in a number of gloves with improved fit, comfort and performance, all of it packaged into a great new design. All these top models have one thing in common, namely the use of a special type of latex, Soft Contact Latex. The material is hard-wearing, flexible and extra soft. What is special about Soft Contact Latex is that it is mixed with glue during production, which intensifies and strengthens the grip. In order to ensure that the latex foam remains pristine until it reaches the customer, a thin layer of plastic is sewn into the palm. It may be somewhat difficult to remove but it ensures that the foam remains completely untouched and that the gloves have optimum grip immediately. It is, nevertheless, still important to wet the gloves thoroughly before use.
