The Lois Dowdle Cobb Museum of Archaeology is currently an underdeveloped space with potential that has not yet been realized on the campus of Mississippi State University.

CONCEPT

Proposed renovation for the Cobb Museum are highlighted to both students and the general public. The entrance is exaggerated with a long ramp as guests enter the cave-like space. Museum embraces the darkness of the basement; warm tones and warm lighting enhances the guest’s experience of being in an underground museum.

LEED Analysis: To gain LEED credits for Building Design and Construction “At least 60% of the project’s gross floor area must be complete by the time of certification.” And “Must include the entire building’s gross floor area in the project.” LEED ideas, methods, and criteria can and should be used to benefit the users, campus, and environment. LEED will change several things in the scope of work for the project such as: equipment, materials, methods, transportation, and the site issues.

AMPHITHEATER SECTION

AMPHITHEATER DESIGN REMARKS Amphitheater designed to give the museum a multipurpose area for extended learning possibilities. Ramp designed to descend down in the ground to prepare the guests for the cave-like space that is the museum.

CONCEPT Sweden, an open and friendly culture and country, plays host and inspiration for Bläs. A place to socialize and take a break, the tables and chairs are placed strategically to aid in this. Sweden’s beautiful natural landscapes and treasures are the inspiration for the materials used, which are meant to connect the inside to nature outside. Materials, furniture, and fixtures are geometric and industrial in nature. The space provides the use of a light color scheme with an accent of gold to provide calmness and comfortable environment. This design also offers a wide range of space and activities that promote a sense of place and community by providing opportunities to interact with others.

corporate CAFE DESIGN REMARKS The open office is planned with more collaborative areas and break areas. On each desk end there is a collaboration area for group work or even a break time. This gives the workers an area to move away from their computers and test out some products to understand what they are selling. Doing this helps when callers have multiple questions about the product sold.

WORK CAFE VIEW

OFFICE DESIGN REMARKS The work cafe design is similar to the look of being on a plane with the circular windows and minimalistic furniture. The accent wall is wooden planks came from the idea of the first planes built and is derived from materials used on early planes.

LOCATION -

TORONTO, CANADA

Cage is a unique fashion and accessory store that takes flight away from the normal designs. It uses the shape of honeycombs for multiple displays. Bees always come back to honeycombs just like customers will do with just one experience in Cage. Bringing aspects from bees and birds into the design helps show uniqueness to the store and it stands out from competitors. The lighting plan on the first floor is shaped like a birdcage to look like the store is open to a new experience unlike any other.

CONCEPT The inspiration came from my backyard. The base is a solid oak block, came from our oak tree that fell over during hurricane Irma, to create texture. The metal bowl was my first dog’s drinking bowl to create line from the cut slits, that also creates space for the light to reflect to the bottom. The rope was from the swing my dad tied on that oak tree when I was a child. It was to create a pattern around the bowl. For the top shade, the back and forth pattern was to create a reflective shape above.

Mardi Gras is a traditional celebration in Europe from the Catholic religion. For many, the season of Mardi Gras is represented by the colors purple, green, and gold. Purple stands for JUSTICE, green for FAITH, and gold for POWER. Color association is how a color makes someone inherently feel. Color can completely change the connotation and meaning of a piece of furniture or a space.
