In just his second season, head coach Dallas Boyer led the Vikings to the best season in school history. Mens’ Soccer

A number of notable victories highlighted Cleveland State’s 2018 campaign. For the first time since 1984, the Vikings won back-to-back matches against teams in Power Five conferences. That stretch began with a 2-0 win at Ohio State, the Vikings’ first victory over the Buckeyes since 1996. In its next match, Cleveland State scored three second-half goals to rally from a halftime deficit and claim a win at Pittsburgh, the program’s second win over a top-40 opponent in 10 days. The win at Pitt was the second time that season the Vikings had rallied from a road deficit to earn a result. A pair of multi-goal individual efforts helped CSU to two more noteworthy wins.

A Vlad Jandric hat trick, the first by a Viking since 2013, helped Cleveland State take down UIC, ending the Flames’ 12-match unbeaten run against Horizon League opposition. A brace by Gabriel Pewu led the Vikings to a 2-0 win over in-state rival Bowling Green, ending a four-game losing streak in the series for CSU. Pewu led the team with six goals and 13 points. Sophomore captain Thomas M’Barek started all 15 matches and earned All-Horizon League accolades. He led a youthful defensive unit that saw 71 of 75 starts for CSU’s goalies and defenders made by freshmen or sophomores. Postseason Honors: Thomas M’Barek (HL Second Team), Vlad Jandric (HL Second Team).

Volleyball

Playing with a young roster, the Cleveland State volleyball team was able to put together its 10th straight winning season during 2018, finishing the year with a 17-12 overall record after playing a competitive nonleague and league schedule. Included in the 17-12 overall record was an 11-5 mark in regular season league matches, a record that earned the Vikings the No. 2 seed in the 2018 Horizon League Tournament. This marked the fourth straight year that the Vikings were playing as a top-two seed in the #HLVB Tournament, while the No. 2 seed also earned Cleveland State its 14th appearance in the semifinals. Throughout the season, Cleveland State was the best blocking team in the Horizon League, while the Vikings also finished the year ranked 10th nationally in
