English Language Institute The English Language Institute (ELI) is a non-credit, multi-leveled academic ESL program. It prepares students to pass an English Language proficiency test such as the TOEFL or IELTS. Degree- seeking students as well as professionals needing English competency find direction and support at the ELI. Fall and spring semesters are 16 weeks. The focus is on the four skill areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. A placement test is given before and after each semester to assure and measure each student’s progress. ELI instructors hold a bachelors degree, are TESOL certified and are committed to helping our students Learn English!

International Students F-1 Visa students enrolled in Columbus State University’s ELI attend full time (20 hrs/week) and qualify for all student benefits, including on-campus housing, meal plans, access to the student recreation center and numerous opportunities for involvement in clubs, organizations and campus activities.

Housing and Meal Plan Living on campus in CSU’s apartment-style housing gives students an opportunity to live, learn and get involved with the university community. Private rooms and private bathrooms are available with fully equipped kitchens, free Wi-Fi and security. A bus system is available to both campus locations and dorms. Off-campus housing is an option at several apartment complexes that are located within walking distance to Columbus State. With the CSU Meal Plan, students can enjoy dining privileges on campus at the Cougar Café and Rankin Den and Dining, which offer quality food, service and value.
