Your Guide to the perfect LA Summer. Kyle Frizol Editor-in-Chief Gone are the days of research papers, group projects and exams; Summer is here, and with it comes endless days soaking the sun. Alongside daydreams of far off places beyond the horizon, Los Angeles comes alive during these warmer months. This is your guide to living, breathing and losing yourself in Los Angeles this Summer. For those who long to spend hours gazing into the depths of a Rembrandt, the City is home to some of the most elegant and renowned galleries in the world. These include: The Getty, Getty Villa, LACMA, The Broad, Huntington Library, Hammer Museum and the Institute of Contemporary Art. Even better, and music to students’ ears, every museum mentioned is free. Notably, exhibitions such as Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror Rooms at The Broad require reservations ahead of time. It’s wise to plan ahead and check each museum’s website before visiting. Summer isn’t complete without the relaxing vibe of live concerts and music events. This year, there are countless festivals, concerts, events and bars showcasing musical talent from around the world. Most notably (and free), KCRW’s Summer Nights is kicking off Saturday, June 2 with a free concert. Alongside the music, a beer garden and market will be offered every Saturday in June. Locations vary each

week; check KCRW’s website for more details. Returning this year, The Getty’s Off the 405 Summer series features rising bands and exhibitions on Saturdays throughout the Summer. Similarly, Jazz at LACMA will be introducing artists at its live concert series every Friday in June and July. Best of all, they are both free.

Movie buffs, you’re not forgotten. Throughout the Summer, Rooftop Cinema Club and Melrose Rooftop Theatre will be presenting popular current and classic films. At the Rooftop Cinema Club, guests are provided a comfortable chair and blankets, and can listen to the outdoor film through wireless headphones. Notable showings in June include: Black Panther, Pulp Fiction and Baby Driver.

For those looking to party the Summer away, LA is home to some of the largest events in the State. Notably, LAWinefest is entering its 13th year, introducing wines, brews and spirits from around the world to Angelinos. Those interested should buy tickets ahead of time, as they sell out quickly. As usual, entry is restricted to those 21 years of age and older.

Even with the plethora of events listed above, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Three months of warm sun, good friends and relaxing vibes lay ahead. The only thing left to do is to decide what to do next. For more information and additional events in Los Angeles this Summer, please visit csulauniversitytimes.com I’ll see you there!

Your guide to the summer’s hottest films and shows. Carlos Gomez Web Editor As summer grows near, many individuals are making plans with friends and family for outings and parties. If you’re not the type to go out and prefer to sit down and enjoy something on the big or small screen, here are some movies and tv shows to catch this summer. With AMC $5 Tuesdays returning, students can now catch movies on a budget. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Dinosaurs return to the big screen, along with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, who are fighting to save the dinos from a second wave of extinction. This will be the fifth installment of the Jurassic series since its first movie, Jurassic Park, came out in 1993. While the franchise is over 20 years old, it continues to bring in movie goers young and old. Christopher Robin Disney continues its path of live action remakes, this time featuring the lovable bear and his now grown up companion as he struggles to sort out his life. Winnie the Pooh originally debut in 1926, and was acquired by Disney in the 1960’s. Since then, the bear has been recognized by many people, as well as his colorful friends.

Universal Pictures

Chris Pratt will reprise his role in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom which is one of the blockbusters opening this Summer.

American Ninja Warrior Featuring celebrities like Usher, NeYo, and Logan Paul, American Ninja Warrior returns to the screen on May 30. The show tests the abilities of its contestants with obstacle courses designed to push their mental and

physical limits. It’s great show to say, “I could do that” to while munching on some leftover pizza. Master Chef The famous Twitter roasting Gordon Ramsey is back at it again with a new

season of MasterChef, which will boast its 9th season on May 30. As Ramsey continues to scream and yell at contestants who want to win with their cooking skills, we can sit back and enjoy the show with our semi-burned popcorn.

Internships 101 Your guide to finding the perfect internship this summer. Richard Molina News Editor Summer vacation is upon us! While the time of homework, pop quizzes and presentations is over for now, the abundance of free time opens opportunities to gain hands-on experience in the career field of your dreams! Organizations all across Los Angeles are looking for eager college students to intern and develop skills necessary to succeeding in their field of interest. Internships will be necessary if you hope to be a future leader in your field. So before you go signing up to the first opportunity that comes across your path, make sure you’ve done your research to get the most out of your potential internship. Here a few suggestions to get you started on the right path: First, be sure you know what you’re getting into. The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) uses the following definition: “An internship is a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting.” Make sure the work you do during the internship will be relevant to your future career.

The next thing you’re going to

"...a stepping stone toward your future career..." want to keep in mind is compensation. Aside from providing the wonderful opportunity of experience in the field of your dreams, some internships even offer a salary! If money is going to be tight this summer, you might want to find an internship that pays. Some programs even offer academic credits towards your university program. When you’re ready to start applying to programs, be sure you have your credentials prepared. This should include a resume, containing a clearly stated objective, both your academic and work history and a short list of reference contacts. Web-based work profiles are a great way to find internships and network through various fields. LinkedIn is such a platform, and popularly used on both the app and website. As for the seeking-out portion of obtaining an internship, there are various ways to do so. Cal State LA will post internships directly connected to the University on CareerLink. Websites such as LinkedIn, Indeed and many others are full of internships. Just be sure to investigate programs thoroughly before committing.

Finally, the most important

thing to do during an internship is to enjoy yourself and keep an open mind. Internships are supposed to be a stepping stone toward your future career, so make sure the work you do is fulfilling and rewarding.
