PAW PRIDE
Paw Pride was a very special event for me to volunteer at. It was the first time as a queer student I was able to participate in a pride event in Long Beach since I started to go to school at CSULB. I loved that I was able to see everyone expressing themselves while being surrounded by all of the amazing good boys and girls. The dogs. This is an event that I hope others go to next time. I know I will be there. -Cory Bulman

SERVICE MARATHON The service marathon that we had with UCLA near the beginning of summer break was a lot of fun. It also provided an opportunity for our club to meet some members of UCLA’s CKI. For two hours we did various online service events such as Zooniverse and Instant Wild. We also had a collaborative music playlist that allowed us to hear the different music that each person enjoyed. While doing Zooniverse, I participated in Gravity Spy. My task was to help identify various recordings made by LIGO scientists and classify them. Even though I am an art student, I love science. This gave me a way to help to contribute to cutting-edge science. With my high ability to do it, I was allowed to help classify harder data that you have to prove yourself to gain access to. -Cory Bulman

SERVICE MARATHON
The summer service marathon is such a blast! We watched carnival themed movies from Rio, Despicable Me, and the Greatest Showman. I haven’t seen these shows in a long time so it was great to watch them again and laugh. While doing that we got to do online service such as beanbeanbean and freerice. These service events are trivia questions where we are asked a service of questions based on different topics. When we get one right, money will be donated to UNICEF charities. It’s a great way to get service hours and bond with the club! -Koby Wu
online
SERVICE Contributing to our community virtually is a privilege and a great opportunity for our members. For each question we choose correctly a question from the several categories available, it is a very engaging way to donate the “beans” to charity. The “beans” are converted into a dollar figure. Each member’s donation depends on the number of beans they have collected until a certain checkpoint. Beanbeanbean does not only donate to charities, but to other highly-rated nonprofits across the globe like hospitals. Members can collect beans during service events or during their free time. It was entertaining reaching a milestone for answering correctly while also challenging my knowledge of what I know. Playing on different difficulties made it very appealing to club members, as stretching out to gain a high score is a rewarding experience to feel towards the end. Beanbeanbean is always a great service event for everyone to come back to and compete to gain the highest amounts of beans. -Marilyn Nguyen

LB Kiwanis Meeetings As most know, a big part of Circle K International are our sponsoring Kiwanis! They support us in attending and funding our events. In return, the least we can do is update them of our activities during their local general meetings. Over the summer, I was able to attend a couple of Long Beach Kiwanis’ general meetings at the Grand and have met some of our Kiwanis members. We start off with the Kiwanis pledge, a national song, and prayer before diving into the general session of event updates followed by a local guest speaker. During the Kiwanis updates, they would invite the Circle K members who are present to introduce themselves and the projects we are working on. Occasionally, the Key Club groups would visit as well and would share their own updates. Kiwanis general meetings are an awesome place to interact with some of the different branches under Kiwanis International. I love hearing everyone’s updates and achievements, as well as being able to receive support from everyone in our Kiwanis family. -Maxime Segui
General Meetings Our Summer general meetings are a great way for us to keep members informed about the club. At this specific meeting we promoted events such as Lydia House, Kiwanis general meeting, a recap to the recent Swim-a-thon, and our July service marathon. Most notably, family heads were revealed during this meeting which gives members something to look forward to when they are sorted into the respective families. This meeting took place on Zoom as a way to make it easier for members to tune in during their break, thank you to everyone who was able to attend and even play some Roblox with us afterwards! -Jason Marquez

DINNER lb kiwanis scholarship
Our biggest supporters in Circle K International are our Kiwanians. At the end of each term, our sponsoring Kiwanis invites the organizations they support, Key Club, KIWINS, and CKI, to apply for scholarships to help ease the burden of college tuition. This was my first event as Kiwanis Family chair and meeting the Kiwanis of Long Beach. Sarah Maver, our current vice president of administration, and I were greeted with open arms and got to interact with some of the Key Club students receiving awards that night. Kiwanis members would also come up to us and share fun facts about Kiwanis and their impact at our CSULB. Some of the history they shared is that a statue was donated under the name of the Kiwanis of Long Beach with a mention of CSULB CKI. However, this statue has been removed before I started attending CSULB. -Maxime Segui
Summer DCMS The June and July DCMs were the first DCMs with our new Lieutenant Governor and Division Leadership Team! The June DCM was Studio Ghibli themed and was a great start to the term as a division. Through this event, our club, CSULB CKI, was recognized as Club of the Month. Additionally, one of our wonderful members, Maxime Segui, was announced as Officer of the Month for her service as our Kiwanis Family Chair. It was great to see our board members being acknowledged for their efforts. This DCM ended off with the attendees watching Studio Ghibli movies together. As for the Sanrio themed July DCM, this event was jam-packed as the DLT members were introduced for the first time. The DLT members then led different sessions to teach the officers of the division about CKI, CNH, member recruitment, member recognition forms, fundraising, and more. Following these sessions, the DCM ended with introducing our new name, Starlight Division, as well voting on the new mascot and colors. It was very exciting to be a part of the voting process, and I am very interested in seeing how our division will continue to grow as we retire Metro and take up the mantle as the Starlight Fireflies. -Julianna De Joya

LONG BEACH NIGHT Summer started off with a blast through CKI’s summer event, Long Beach Night. It was a generally nice June day where not only did everyone go together to The Pike, but it led to memories being made. It started off with meeting up and a bit of a wait due to everyone being a little silly with time but it moved on to the various stores. Starting from 3pm, the Long Beach day adventure started off at Hot Topic where some members(maybe me) were convinced into buying a 6 dollar pop figure!(so freaking worth) From there it was eating food into the long awaited event and the star of the show, the Night Dive at the Aquarium of the Pacific! It featured an 18+ experience with many food trucks but the real show was the PENGUINS! Seeing them and the many different tanks in the late night with the lights there was a surreal experience. The touch pool was also really cool and you really got hands on there. It ended around 9pm and it was one of the better experiences of the summer! Thanks to everyone that came along for the fun! -Bin Pham

This event at round1 was filled with so much fun between Fullerton CKI and our home club. At round1, we played lots of arcade games ranging from the claw machines to basketball and so much more. I personally won a few of the small plushies, and Josh from Fullerton was winning a lot of plushies and figures from the claw machine and ended up giving some away at the end of the event. At the end, we gathered in a circle and showed our winnings and overall it was a really fun time getting to know the people at Fullerton. -Steven Ly

KRISPYKREME FUNDRAISER We held our first Krispy Kreme fundraiser of the term from 8/11-8/21. People were able to purchase a dozen donuts for 50% off using our website, with half of the earnings going towards our clubs admin funds. We were not only able to raise money for our club but even utilized the deal for our future events. Our E-Board bought multiple dozen from the fundraiser and was able to bring donuts to multiple events after our Krispy Kreme Fundraiser. Providing donuts for Key 2 College and multiple general meetings. The success of the fundraiser also allowed us to run a second krispy kreme fundraiser that provided donuts to our local Kiwanis at their Kids n Cops event. -Kade Wu

MIRACLE MILE The Midsummer Miracle Mile was a fundraising event live streamed at the end of June. Depending on the swimmer and stroke, each lap helped raise money for our club. Maxime and I even raced each other a couple times (anything for our biggest fans). It was a lot of fun and a great way to check in with people over the summer. Never again will I swim 50 laps of butterfly, my arms will never forgive or forget. But it was definitely worth every lap, and it was fun to have a lil diving workshop at the end. Thanks to Kade, Marilyn, Maxime, and Shayla for all their hard work! -Cory Bulman
