World Health Day
Earth Day
With the days getting longer and the weather improving this is an ideal time to run a Dr Bike session, helping colleagues get their bikes ready to start commuting.
Studies have shown there are links between a lower risk of heart disease and cancer in more active people. Consider promoting your incentives for cyclists such as your cycle to work scheme or organising a staff ride.
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Cycling is a zero-emission form of transport – share this calculator with staff to show how much CO2 they could save by cycling.

Mental Health Awareness Week
World’s Biggest Bike Ride
This year’s theme for Mental Health Awareness Week is nature and the environment. Why not encourage staff to go for a ride and explore nature.
Thousands of people of all abilities, experience and age take part in Cycling UK’s World’s Biggest Bike Ride. Head out for a ride at your own pace and log it on the website to tell us you took part.
Tip: try providing a short route from your office for colleagues to ride at lunchtime and get away from their desks.

Bike Week
World Bicycle Day
Women’s Festival of Cycling
Bike Week is the largest awarenessraising week for cycling in the UK. You can join a ride, host a ride or take part in an event. Don’t forget you can enjoy free cycle insurance cover because it’s Bike Week. Could you challenge your staff to cycle every day for seven days #7daysofcycling? Visit cyclinguk.org/bikeweek
In April 2018, the United Nations General Assembly declared 3 June as International World Bicycle Day. The resolution for World Bicycle Day recognises “The uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the Bicycle, which has been in use for two centuries, and that it is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transport.”
The festival is run by Cycling UK and features a range of female-friendly and women’s only rides your staff can join as well as exciting online events. Why not put on a female-friendly ride for staff at work? Add your ride to the website and get free cycling insurance cover for your ride.

Road Safety Week
World Car Free Day encourages motorists to give up their cars for a day and seek alternative forms of transport. Organised events are held in some cities and countries. Encourage your staff to give up the car for one day and come to work on two wheels instead.
With the days getting shorter, those new cyclists you’ve encouraged to get riding over the past few months may need some extra kit to stay visible. Why not arrange some incentives such as lights, or bag covers for cyclists who ride all year round.
The week, organised by ‘Brake’, a road safety charity, is an annual event and the biggest road safety awareness event in the UK. Visit the website for more information.
