If you’ve been involved in a cycling incident, call the Cycling UK Incident Line for specialist legal advice...
...this guide will explain your journey.
You’ve contacted the Cycling UK Incident Line One of our helpful advisers will verify your Cycling UK membership and take details of the incident. They’ll then confirm whether or not you have a claim for compensation.
You don’t have a claim for compensation Our specialist advisers will explain the details in full to you and check if you need any further legal advice. If you don’t need any further advice, your journey will end here.
You have a claim for compensation Our specialist advisers will provide you with all the information you need and will send you a pack of documents including the No Win No Fee agreement for you to sign and return to us. Cycling personal injury compensation claims can take between 12 to 18 months to complete, and for more serious injury cases, could take between two and three years.
You’ve returned your documents Our legal experts will begin gathering evidence, such as witness statements and medical evidence to proceed with your claim. We’ll then submit your claim to the insurer of the person at fault and will try to negotiate a settlement of your claim. You’ll be advised of progress throughout your journey. The majority of cases settle before attendance at court is necessary.
Your claim is successful! You’ll receive your compensation payment and won’t have to pay any legal costs as Cycling UK members benefit from keeping 100% of their compensation for cycling incident claims*. Once you receive your compensation, your journey ends here. *except in circumstances of cycling abroad, criminal incidents or if there was an untraceable driver involved.
Your claim is unsuccessful If your claim is unsuccessful, you won’t receive compensation but won’t have to pay any costs given you’ve signed a No Win No Fee agreement. Your journey ends here.
You don’t have a compensation claim but property has been damaged or someone else has been injured You weren’t injured so don’t have a claim for personal injury. However, your property has been damaged, such as your own bike, or you’ve caused injury to someone else or damaged their property.
Your bike has been damaged To make a claim for your bike damage, one of our specialist advisers will take brief details of the incident and send you a small claims pack which includes information on the small claims procedure, what you need to prove, evidence needed, other expenses and court fees. Your journey with Slater and Gordon will end here. You’ll then proceed with the small claims process via your local county court.
You’ve damaged someone else’s property or caused them injury Our specialist advisers will take brief details of the incident and will provide you with legal advice. They’ll then arrange for a third party claim form to be sent to you and ask you to return the form to us.
You’ve returned your third party claim form Once we receive your completed claim form, we’ll send it to our third party insurer, Butterworth Spengler, who will take your claim from there.
