Candy Bacteria Activity Supply List: 12”x18” manila/white paper white glue or hot glue guns fun size coated candy such as Skittles® elongated coated candy such as Pez® or Tic-Tac’s® strand type candy such as Twizzlers® (Pull and Peel Twizzlers® work well) Crayolas/Markers/Colored Pencils 1. Pass out 12” x 18” papers and have students fold it into 8 squares. 2. Have the students label each square on the paper as follows and write their name on the opposite side: a. b. c. d. e. f. g. h.

Cocci Bacilli Spirilla Staphylococci Streptococci Diplococci Flagella Cilia

3. Students should write a brief summary describing each of the topics. 4. Distribute equal amounts of candy to students a. Coated candy for cocci shaped bacteria b. Elongated coated candy for bacilli shaped bacteria c. Strand type candy for spirilla shaped bacteria 5. Glue the corresponding candies to represent each bacteria. 6. Review projects when everyone is finished. 7. Check for understanding.
