BEFORE OUR LADY APPEARED TO THE CHILDREN AT FATIMA, GOD SENT AN ANGEL...
Pentacost
Pentecost Sunday is one of the most ancient feasts of the Church, celebrated early enough to be mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles (20:16) and St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians (16:8). It is the 50th day after Easter (if we count both Easter and Pentecost), and it supplants the Jewish feast of Pentecost, which took place 50 days after the Passover and which celebrated the sealing of the Old Covenant on Mount Sinai. The Acts of the Apostles recounts the story of the original Pentecost as well (Acts 2). Jews from all over were gathered in Jerusalem to celebrate the Jewish feast. On that Sunday, ten days after the Ascension of Our Lord, the Apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary were gathered in the Upper Room, where they had seen Christ after His Resurrection:
AND SUDDENLY THERE CAME A SOUND FROM HEAVEN, AS OF A MIGHTY WIND COMING, AND IT FILLED THE WHOLE HOUSE WHERE THEY WERE SITTING. AND THERE APPEARED TO THEM PARTED TONGUES AS IT WERE OF FIRE, AND IT SAT UPON EVERY ONE OF THEM: AND THEY WERE ALL FILLED WITH THE HOLY GHOST, AND THEY BEGAN TO SPEAK WITH DIVERS TONGUES, ACCORDING AS THE HOLY GHOST GAVE THEM TO SPEAK. [ACTS 2:2-4] Christ had promised His Apostles that He would sent His Holy Spirit, and, on Pentecost, they were granted the gifts of the Spirit. The Apostles began to preach the Gospel in all of the languages that the Jews who were gathered there spoke, and about 3,000 people were converted and baptized that day. That is why Pentecost is often called "the birthday of the Church." On this day, with the descent of the Holy Spirit, Christ's mission is completed, and the New Covenant is inaugurated. It's interesting to note that St. Peter, the first pope, was already the leader and spokesman for the Apostles on Pentecost Sunday (see Acts 2:14ff). In years past, Pentecost was celebrated with greater solemnity than it is today. In fact, the entire period between Easter and Pentecost Sunday was known as Pentecost (and it still is called Pentecost in the Eastern churches, both Catholic and Orthodox). During those 50 days, both fasting and kneeling were strictly forbidden, because this period was supposed to give us a foretaste of Heaven. In more recent times, Catholics celebrated the approach of Pentecost with the recitation of the Novena to the Holy Ghost.
OUR LADY OF FATIMA Ä ã« D òÊã®ÊÄ Ê¥ ã« F®ò F®ÙÝã S ãçÙ ùÝ The AppariƟon of December 10, 1925 On this day Our Lady, holding Her Immaculate Heart in Her Hand, appeared to Lucia, and by Her side stood the Child Jesus on a cloud. The Child Jesus said:
"Have compassion on the Heart of your Most Holy Mother, covered with thorns, with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment, and there is no one to make an act of reparation to remove them." Then the Blessed Virgin Mary said to Lucia: "Look, my daughter, at My Heart, surrounded with
thorns with which ungrateful men pierce Me at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You at least try to console Me. Announce in my name that… I PROMISE TO ASSIST AT THE HOUR OF DEATH, WITH THE GRACES NECESSARY FOR SALVATION, ALL THOSE WHO, ON THE FIRST SATURDAY OF FIVE CONSECUTIVE MONTHS, SHALL CONFESS, RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION, RECITE FIVE DECADES OF THE ROSARY, AND KEEP ME COMPANY FOR 15 MINUTES WHILE MEDITATING ON THE MYSTERIES OF THE ROSARY, WITH THE INTENTION OF MAKING REPARATION TO ME."
THE DEVOTION OF THE FIVE FIRST SATURDAYS requires us to do the following on each of 5 consecutive First Saturdays…
1. PRAY THE ROSARY (5 decades) 2. MEDITATE ON THE MYSTERIES OF THE ROSARY (apart from praying the Rosary) 3. MAKE A GOOD CONFESSION 4. WORTHILY RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION (meaning you are in a state of grace) All must be done with the Intention of Making Reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
OUR SCHEDULE HERE AT CHRIST THE KING MAKES IT VERY EASY TO COMMIT YOURSELF TO THIS DEVOTION... (3) Confessions are heard on Saturdays from 4:15 - 4:45 in the Church. (4) Our 5:00pm vigil Mass (right after Confession) offers the opportunity to receive Communion. There are 2 options for Praying and Meditation upon the Rosary (1 & 2). You can pray the Rosary with fellow parishioners on First Saturdays at 9:30am in the Church and remain to keep Our Lady company for 15 minutes and contemplate the Mysteries of the Rosary... or You can attend our Divine Mercy Holy Hour (3pm - 4pm on First Saturdays) and pray the Rosary privately, afterward meditating upon the Mysteries of the Rosary. If you need a booklet on how to pray the Rosary, Meditating upon the Mysteries of the Rosary, Rosary Beads or an Examination of Conscience Booklet for Making a Good Confession, please call or stop in to the Rectory Office during regular hours (9:30-4:30 M-F).
