In the opening scene for the movie ‘baby driver’ the camera is angled at a low angle featuring a big building which suggest that the building will have some importance during the movie. As time continues there is red car which stops directly in front of the camera making it so the car tire is now the focused object rather than the building. The zoomed in, close up shot shows us the details and therefore, makes it easier for the audience to set the story in their head. I believe that the close up of the car tire sets the scene due to the connotations of the sports car and the way it blocked the whole building this shot portrayed the driver as nonchalant and kind of reckless. The first shot including the protagonist face is a … shot. This is where the camera shows a character looking directly at something however, the audience don’t know what it is that they are looking at. This adds suspension creating a more interesting atmosphere for the audience. Bird eye view is a hot type used during the car chase which is very typical for an action film. The shot adds drama as we can see everything. It’s supposed to make us feel like the police in the helicopter because it shows them this way we are in their shows and shows us how they feel about the situation. I think this is called point of view perspective An example of a prop used in ‘baby driver’ is the sports car. The car is red which is important as the colour suggest passion and danger. This foreshadows action for later on in the film. Sports car drivers are also commonly judged to be reckless and young suggesting that this will be the traits and characteristics of the protagonist. The protagonist sunglasses also portray him as reckless as well as young. It also suggest that he’s a criminal that wears glasses to cover his identity a bit. The fact that they all wear tinted glasses and dark colours is why I think that. Another prop used to portray the protagonist a certain way is the MP3 player which the camera specifically focuses on seconds into the film. I believe that they showed us the fact that he was using an MP3 player with headphones to show that he’s young. Older people tend not to use portable technology as well as wear ear/head phones therefore, by him doing this we are aware that he’s rather young. Often in cartoons and other movies they put teenagers in headphones to also show their age but they commonly do this with boys who think that they are cool so by them doing this we know that he comes with trouble. The costumes which the characters are wearing are a key part in telling the story. They are all dressed professionally in a suit and the men are wearing a tie. This suggest that they have pride for their job as they dress as smart as they can. This shows that they put a lot of effort into their occupation. They are also all wearing sunglasses suggesting criminality. The glasses obviously cover their eyes making it harder to identify them. As someone in the audience it add tension and shows me that the producers want us to know that they are or can be violent. The bags that they carry suggest that they have an important role in the movie. Often undercover carry bags filled with important information this implies something bad will happen. The film is set in a city which suggest that getting away will be hard. The lighting is natural therefore there is no artificial lights surrounding the set. This is not used because they wanted to make it look as real as possible therefore there is more of a connection between the audience and the character. There is some pratical lighting in the car park from the light bulbs. If they were not on there would have been no lighting and it would have been dark in which case artificial lighting would have needed to be used but they used the lights they had rather than

adding studio lights. I think this is because the darker lit room makes the story line more suspicious. Also to add realism.
