Unit 27 Task 3 part 5 Technical review The camera used to take all of the images in London for unit 27 was a canon EOS 750D. Each photo was taken at a different shutter speed depending on the lighting in the area at that particular time. However, the most common shutter speed I shot in was 1/5000.
The first of the series I shot had many high buildings which blocked the sun from shinning in that area therefore, it was dark and I used a high shutter speed in the low light area the shutter speed was 1/1600. The aperture in this image was f/4.0. the shutter speed was slow due to the low lighting. If there was not as many shadows and there was direct sunlight the shutter speed would be faster and allow more light. The focus in this photograph is not as obvious as other photos however, a building that stands out to others is the Tower bridge towards the background. The camera setting automatically focused towards the centre of the screen which include the tower bridge, a bit of the sky and the round building this region was the sharpest area in the photo. If there was no focus the image could have potentially been blurry.
The framing in this photograph creates a narrow frame due to the high buildings. The positioning adds attention to the brightest parts of the image. The measurements for this photo is 6000x4000. This makes it landscape and it significant in this photo because there are a lot of things you can look at rather than 1 object. The angle that this photo was taken at was a long shot as it shows the full size of the tower bridge which is the main focus. It’s also at eyelevel as it is from human perspective. The dark foreground draws attention to the viewers making the focus more memorable. Mise en scene- the setting is very modern the use of high building made out of glass creates a modern feeling making the image appealing to a younger generation. The image uses lowkey lighting as there is very little light. The location is the capital of England. This attracts people because it’s one of the most popular tourist destinations. One way that the image shows where it’s located is the tower bridge famous for being a bascule and suspension bridge on the river Thames. To ensure that the composition of this image was at a good enough standard I tried to use rule of thirds. The screen was split into 9 section at each part had a focus object. This made sure that the shot was even. The lighting was natural. The image appears dark due the shadows of the buildings. There was no flash on whilst this was taken.
This image was taken on the same canon camera.
The ISO was 100 and it had a really slow shutter speed of 1.6 to create this effect. The blur motion makes the image look more unique than others. I like it because it created contrast between the moving objects and the building. This effect was created through the use of a anamorphic lens and a slow shutter speed. The aperture in this image Is f/13. Unlike the previous image a lot of natural light was apparent meaning that the opening through which the light travels was bigger. If it was small the image would have been darker. There was also no specific focus on this image as the intentions where to make the moving motion as blurry as possible by having more people however the clearest and sharpest thing apparent in this photograph is the cathedral making it the point of focus. It was important that all of the surrounding building where as sharp as they could be so the image didn’t look too messy. The location in which this was taken is appealing because of the use of the famous cathedral. It is well known across England and it is appealing to tourist. There is a slightly orange tone in the image it has been tinted a bit to make it more appealing and less dry looking. The temperature is 5,934. To make it more tungsten .
Review of the brief The London tourist board stated that they wanted a marketing campaign of print adverts which will promote London and appeal to young, “alternative” and “edgy” characters. Through out the series of posters they wanted the posters to include excitement, vibrancy and adventure. This is why I have used bright colours which can be seen from far away. I’ve also used a font which appeals to the youth through out all of my posters. Whilst I was taking my pictures I made sure I took photos of thing which suggest adventure and youthfulness.
My posters Poster 1
My first poster is of Tower bridge. The location will appeal to tourist because it’s one of London’s most famous bridges. Therefore, automatically people will be drawn to the poster. The font also appeals to young people band can be seen from afar. I intended for this poster to be eye catching and a realistic representation of the Tower Bridge and the outcome was in my opinion good. The masthead in the poster is the top centre. I believe this makes it successful because it shows the full image without covering any of the image. It creates good eye flow. The photo was taken on the bridge so you get an inside view. I believe that that the house style attracts both male and female. Mutual colours and fonts were used. Technically the camera positioning was significant as it shows the bridge from eye level of a human making it more realistic. I wanted people to feel like they were there.
Poster 2
The second poster fulfils the brief as there are four different perspectives of London all of which appeal to young people. The image in the top left is of someone spray painting. This has an edgy vibe which the youth would like. The image in the right hand corner shows excitement. People will be assured that there stay in London will be fun and entertaining which all people want when they travel. It also shows diversity and how all cultural background’s and ethnicities are appreciated in London. The food from all different places around the world in the bottom left hand corner also shows that whereas, the photo in the right shows the modern side of London, good architecture and youth. Whilst creating this poster I intended to show all different perspectives in London hopefully attracting a bigger audience. I think it captured my ideas significantly.
Poster 3
4 different images were used to create this Image. I’ve used the boy on the skateboard to show youth a girl with her hands together to show hope, a lamp post with stickers to show edginess and the background of a skate tunnel. The image uses red which is a bold colour to attract young people from far away
poster 4
This poster is a collage of a variety of different images. I like the colour and I used It because ei thought that it would fit the brief and be edgy. I also used and blended the London sky line and Shakespeare as its memorable in London.
