Hever Castle

Discover centuries of history in the childhood home of Anne Boleyn in Kent – Hever Castle & Gardens The splendid rooms of the double moated castle contain fine furniture, tapestries, antiques, an important collection of Tudor paintings and two prayer books inscribed and signed by Anne Boleyn herself.

The stunning award-winning gardens include the Italian Garden with its 38 acre lake and the spectacular Loggia with is very own Trevi Fountain

Visitors can find out more about former owner William Waldorf Astor’s vision for his home as part of a new permanent exhibition on the ground floor of the Castle

A new painting of Hever’s Italian Garden by Winston Churchill is on display in the Inner Hall and visitors can also find out about visits from The Times staff and the Second World War effort in the nearby Moat Room.

Visitors can also find out more about Anne Boleyn and Catherine of Aragon as part of Catherine and Anne: Queens, Rivals, Mothers’ (on in the Castle until November 2023)

Exhibits on display as part of the exhibition include a previously unexhibited panel portrait of Catherine of Aragon and replicas of the coronation robes and crown of Elizabeth I and Mary I which may also have been used by Anne and Catherine at their coronations.

Lyveden

Cared for by the National Trust, Lyveden is a Grade 1 listed Park and Garden near Oundle Set in the heart of rural Northamptonshire, Lyveden is a remarkable survivor of the Elizabethan age Begun by Sir Thomas Tresham to symbolise his Catholic faith, Lyveden remains incomplete and virtually unaltered since work stopped on his death in 1605 with the local community

The full extent of Sir Thomas's symbolic design remains unexplained to this day The site also includes a café, archaeological garden, and second-hand bookshop They offer guided tours for groups at a cost of £2 00 a head,
