ABOUT ME

I was born in Bacau, a small town in the North-East of Romania and was raised there until the end of high school, when i left to Romania’s capital city, Bucharest, to go to university. I knew i wanted to become an architect ever since I was 15 and my father, who is a construction engineer, would bring me to his construction sites. I remember being very inspired by his passion and later on, I started drawing more and more until I started to realize this was my passion. After being accepted into “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest, a whole new universe opened up to me. This school put a lot of emphasis on hand drawing and on the feeling and functionality of the space, so I think that throughout the 6 years, I gained a very good instinct of how to design. I wanted to experience art in it’s many forms so I became interested in photography, painting, theatre and make-up and even now I pursue these hobbies professionally. Going with a scholarship to Lisbon, Portugal made me want to travel more and more, experience working in different countries and interacting with different cultures. After Portugal, and spending 2 summers in the USA , I finished the university and I became interested in coming to China. China has taught me many things but I think that the most important thing is that here I learned to adapt very fast to big changes, I became more inventive and I tried new things every day just because everything seemed so different. My dream is to work in a team where everyone’s opinion is valued and where quality is more important than quantity. Having to manage projects, I became good at taking a task and carrying it out fast while guiding others and synthesizing a series of activities and delegating authority. I am happy to organize and take a project to the end, especially when i work with passionate and talented people.

COMMERCIAL STREET

01

(in construction phase) Changsha 2014 Freelance 11

Located in Huitang town, in Changsha, along the river Wujiang, the site is split is 2 main areas - the NS inner commercial street and the EW river promenade. The concept is creating a flowing patchwork of textures that would result in a great shopping and strolling atmosphere during the day and especially during the night. The lighting effects are very different coming from behind different textures and trans lucid materials.

GLOBAL TOWER AND HOTEL

02

(in construction phase) Kunshan 2014 FUDAN Design 19

The concept of this design is related to a very special flower in Kunshan the Lotus with 2 flowers. Our team created a landmark in the city center by using the green commercial area to connect the hotel and the mix use tower like a “leaf” connecting 2 flowers. The facade has an unique look created by the second skin - a gradient made out of glass squares. The residential tower is predominantly white and the hotel is more dark, while the commercial “belt” is like a floating garden. By sculpting a gap in the middle of the commercial, and a bridge, we extended the commercial facade.

PRIVATE LAKE HOUSE AND CLUB

03

Changsha 2014 FUDAN Design

25

The challenge in the Changsha villa was delivering on the request of total privacy from the road and from the club, and also the need of creating a strong connection to the existing natural environment. The big villa opens to the big lake on the hill while turning it’s back to the road, and is positioned in a much higher level as the club, thus offering the possibility of observing without being observed. The materials used are local materials and also the flowing water is used to create energy. The amount of water in the summer is bigger so between the buildings some natural pools are created. The Club villas needed privacy from each other while creating the possibility of unifying spaces inside. They are rotated so that no one can see from one to the other villa, they have a hidden car access behind them, the private space is at the second level and it revolves around an interior garden.

GREEN ROOF CONCEPT

STRUCTURE

PLANTS

This Sanmenxia project began from a challenging urban planning assignment to create several commercial areas in the valley created by 2 rivers. The most important request was to integrate the buildings as much as possible in the landscape. We used the height differences to create different levels and connections and in facade, the shops skyline had the outline of “mountains. This helped for the project to become a very GREEN project. With natural ventilation, energy re-usage and lots of natural light.

All of the sections of the site were thought to be like a transition point from road to nature.

31

32

The West site, boarded by 2 bridges, is a very good example of how architecture can create perfect viewpoints for nature. From time to time buildings are “broken to make room for the viewer to stop and look at the river and the other side. The height difference allowed us to build 2 underground parkings and easy connections from East to West as well as from North to South

33

34

35

36

The East site has one side with the same kind of commercial small buildings on one side of the river while on the other, a bigger commercial area hidden under the natural hill is creating 2 activity squares The islands in the middle of the river are peaceful places where you can find a teahouse and relaxation points.

TEA HOUSE

05

Sichuan 2013 FUDAN Design

41

The teahouse is meant to become a viewing point on one of the highest points of the city while integrating itself into nature and creating new and interesting spaces for public use as well as for private dining and leisure. The glass cantilever is meant to be a spectacular way to experience the view to the modern city.

THE BIG ROOF - Reception Center

06

Shiyan 2013 FUDAN Design

45

46

The site in this situation is the main character of the project. The reception center must be a integrated design with an outstanding impact for the visitor. The big roof copies the slope of the ground and shelters under it all the functions, creating special private spaces in different levels by cutting inside of it. The main exterior stair and horizontal elevator is a separate way to get directly to the viewing point at the top of the building

ANTI-CORRUPTION OFFICE (in construction phase)

07

Sanmenxia 2012 FUDAN Design

49

The Anti-Corruption Office in Sanmenxia was designed to be have an imposing image in the area. The front facing facade is a game of negative and positive that forms an “indestructible wall. The interior courtyard is surrounded by a corridor building and a walkway connecting to the cafeteria and public spaces in the back. The materials used are local and the existence of sun roofs and interior courtyards allows for natural light everywhere inside the building

COMMERCIAL CENTER (in construction phase)

08

Nanhui 2014 FUDAN Design

53

This commercial center was desired to have a very high visual impact for the area. The design was supposed to impress by day and by night with it’s golden “snake like” skin and the hexagonal aluminum and glass panels, cut by stipes of light. In contrast with the exterior, the interior has a very simple and clean look .

FUDAN DESIGN STUDIO INTERIOR DESIGN (built)

09

Shanghai 2013 FUDAN Design 59

The interior design of the front desk area and business meetings room of FUDAN’s office was a project that had to be functional and also represent the image of the company. The design was meant to be simple and with strong composition of beck-lit volumes.

GUYIANG COMMERCIAL PLAZA (in construction phase)

10

Guyiang 2011 EBU Architects

63

64

The Guyiang competition was a challenge because of it’s green building requirements and because of the many functions that needed to be mixed in the development. The final proposal had a circular placement of the buildings, with the highest point overlooking the city in the sky-garden on top of the hotel. The towers have a simple glass facade while the commercial belt is covered by a versatile LED facade. Also, the interior courtyard has terraces in order to create more facade space for the commercial and more interesting public spaces.

EBU Arhitects BOOTH INTERIOR DESIGN (built)

11

Architecture Forum Shanghai 2011 EBU Architects 71

The concept for the EBU booth for the Architecture Forum 2011 came from the idea that the pencil is the architect’s primary tool and so all our designs were relying on this structure created by almost 5000 pencils. The design was very attractive and it won the first prize

72

73

Together with this booth, I designed a new identity for the company together with logo, cards and presentation style. The concept was to create identity out of texture and shadow more than out of color. The idea of the transparency suggests openness and design for the future and the plastic used is recycled plastic. Reusing materials bas at the base of the booth design too. By creating the decor out of pencils that would be offered in the future.

Commercial center

78

This big urban planning development in Shilin was a team project where landscape took the first place. The area needed a focus point in the middle of our site so we started developing radially from there. The conference center and the 5 stars hotel as well as the commercial part have a futuristic look and a very complex circulation system that can allow a person to walk close to the landscape for long distances. The river close by was used to create a special kind of wet landscape close to the villas.

Typical neighborhood in Bucharest

82

Create a wall as the “face to the streets of Bucharest

The wall becomes the positive of the street (the negative) - a canvas to the world

As the competition for the Romanian pavilion for EXPO Shanghai 2010 was focused on representing urbanism in Bucharest and Romania, I was inspired by the image of the typical urban neighborhood of old Bucharest where houses have irregular shapes and heights. The wall raises to create a path through this invisible neighborhood, with different “rooms”.

As Bucharest is one of the main new scenes in Europe in URBAN ART, the most famous Romanian graffiti and stencil artists would have been invited to paint these walls with their design, thus creating a “gallery” within the walls of the city

First Floor

Section

Facades The hotel for mountaineers is thought like a gallery to the beauty of mountains. The lower volume with the public functions acts like a support and “gate towards the more private upper volume which opens all the balconies to the landscape and lake. 87

THE MUSEUM OF SALT

15

Bucharest 2011 Diploma Project - “Ion Mincu” University

89

The museum is located above the entrance of the salt mine in Targu Ocna, Romania, creating the connection between underground and overground by it’s half buried appearance. The concept came from the image of the salt crystal that is like a system of perfect cubes molecules.

The urban configuration is inspired by local architecture

The entrance - a light signal - the “crystal” of salt appears to be escaping the mountain where it was burried 90

The galleries in the museum are inspired by the galleries in the mine

SECTION

The museum is a monolithic and mystic experience where the visitor enters the world of crystals and stone, directed by a path lit by a sky light and also intersected with separate intimate galleries with different exhibits also lit from above. This way visitors can feel they have been inside the “castle of stone that is the mountain full of salt. The material used is pure concrete, trans-lucid but non transparent glass and also Litracon (light transmissive concrete).

PLAN

91

Litracon pXL These are prefabricated concrete blocks with optical fibers inside (glass) available is white, gray and black. In the project I used this for the entrance cubes and for one side of the separate galleries
