MEMBERSHIP GUIDE

Where the Buffaloes roam, great things happen! The University of Colorado is deeply committed to the competitive success

of the entire athletic enterprise. Over 6,000 people like you generously donate to the Buff Club each year helping us move closer to achieving our goals of sustainable excellence in each of our 17 NCAA sports and establishing a consistent presence in the upper echelon in the Pac-12 conference and the nation. Your Buffs experienced a memorable introduction to our new league academically and competitively. Our GPA was the highest on record across all sports and for the second consecutive year, our NCAA academic performance rating (APR) was the highest in school history. In particular, men’s basketball under the leadership of Head Coach Tad Boyle, has achieved two years of perfect 1000 annual scores. We are proud that our student athletes celebrated four Pac-12 championships in men’s (2) and women’s cross country and men’s basketball. Rounding out the accomplishments also include the women’s golf team reaching their first NCAA championship in program history and 100 percent graduation rates for football and men’s basketball. This impressive effort from our student athletes, the athletic department staff, collaboration with campus, coupled with tremendous support from Buff Club members are clearly producing terrific results for Colorado. The Buff Club and Colorado Athletics are most appreciative of your generosity, intensity of interest and leadership. The exhilaration we experience when Ralphie takes the field is unparalleled, and the “Fight, Fight, Fight, Fight, Fight” that concludes the fight song resonates in the hearts and minds of all that call CU our team! Join us today in a commitment to sustainable excellence. Thank you for standing shoulder to shoulder with us!

Annual Student-Athlete Expenses Each year the Buff Club strives to not only support growing scholarship costs, but to fund the complete student-athlete experience. As tuition costs continue to increase and the cost of doing business rises, your support is more critical than ever. By factoring in other direct expenses such as travel, academic support and sports medicine, the individual student-athlete investment surpasses $67,000 annually (out-of-state). Clearly, these expenses add up, as CU supports over 300 studentathletes across 17 varsity sports. Our goal is to create a culture of sustainable excellence, and your continued support of CU Athletics is essential to ensuring that these talented young men and women have the necessary resources to be nationally competitive on the field and in the classroom.

Championships start with scholarships In order to compete nationally, the University of Colorado must ensure the top in-state student-athletes are choosing to compete for the Buffs, while also attracting the best and brightest from around the country. Tuition and fees for out-of-state student-athletes cost $21,896 more annually than in-state studentathletes. With scholarship costs rising nationally, it is imperative that the Buff Club increases both memberships and gifts to assist in covering these costs. New MEMBERSHIP Guidelines for 2013

Rachel Viger Fort Collins, Colorado

The Buff Club strives to provide the highest level of customer service to all donors and has worked to update its membership guidelines and refine the Buff Club membership cycle. As of July 1, 2012, the Buff Club membership cycle now runs on a competitive (fiscal) year beginning July 1, and ending June 30. The Buff Club is proud to introduce new annual giving levels and benefits (see page 11). Beginning this year, certain benefits such as season ticket and parking upgrades will be determined based on a combination of annual giving level and rank within a donor’s level as determined by the priority point system. Thank you for your support in our mission to maintain a membership program that fairly rewards the loyal supporters of Colorado Athletics. Buff Club Giving Supporting the University of Colorado Athletic Department and its student-athletes with a donation to the Buff Club is the best method to directly impact the future of Colorado Athletics. Our student-athletes do their part: hours of practice and studying, competing and striving for championships. We all have the opportunity to stand Shoulder to Shoulder every day for Colorado student-athletes. Please help ensure our success and make a difference by contributing a gift today.

WAYS

TO GIVE

Annual Giving Donors who support the University of Colorado Athletic Department through generous contributions to the CU Foundation are considered members of the Buff Club. Annual gifts to the Buff Club provide the invaluable scholarship and operating resources needed in order for Colorado Athletics to achieve its vision of sustainable excellence as a top intercollegiate athletic program. Annual cash gifts immediately impact and enrich the lives of our student-athletes as they strive to achieve greatness in competition, in the classroom and beyond. The cumulative amount given to support studentathletes and the athletic department on an annual basis determines a Buff Club member’s annual giving level. Buff Club membership levels with associated benefits are activated with a minimum gift of $100. Capital Gifts Capital gifts address specific facility needs of the athletic department. Capital gifts are included when determining a Buff Club member’s annual membership level. Endowments Establishing an endowment provides funding for future Colorado student-athletes. Endowments are permanently invested by the University of Colorado Foundation, generating interest that is used for the purpose you choose to support.

8

Buff Club MEMBERSHIP GUIDE

A portion of the interest income is reinvested in the endowment’s principal each year, enabling it to grow in perpetuity and provide an enduring stream of income for the athletic department. For more information on setting up an endowment with the Buff Club, contact us at (303) 492-2200. Planned Giving A planned gift can pay dividends that leave tomorrow’s University of Colorado Athletic Department a place of sustained competitive excellence, educational opportunities and lasting tradition for student-athletes, coaches and staff. Planned gifts can be made as charitable trusts, gift annuities, bequests, life insurance and numerous other tax wise tools. There is a planned gift to suit every circumstance. Each giving strategy has distinct benefits for you and for the athletic department. The Buff Club can guide you through the available choices and help you increase your legacy. For more information on setting up a planned gift with the Buff Club, contact us at (303) 492-2200. Matching Gifts You may be able to double your gift to the Buff Club with a matching gift! Many companies and subsidiaries have a program that matches gifts made to support athletic designations at institutions of higher education. However, it is not uncommon for

some companies to stop matching or only match the tax deductible portion of your athletic gift. We encourage you to check with your employer to determine if your gift to the Buff Club is eligible for a company match, especially if your gift is meant to fulfill a pledge for season ticket or parking benefits. Matching gifts are directed to the same designation as your original gift, unless your employer dictates otherwise. Donors are responsible for the full or partial balance of their pledge if their company fails to match their gift. Your initial gift and matching form must be submitted by January 21 and the match made by your company no later than June 30 to count toward your Buff Club membership for the upcoming competitive year. If your employer will match your gift, please request a matching gift form from your employer and submit your claim, completed and signed, with your gift to the address below: The Buff Club 369 UCB Boulder, CO 80309 You may also submit your claim online if your employer has an online matching gift claim form via their internet or intranet.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR GIFT Pledge You may pledge to join the Buff Club at a specific level and pay the pledge in installments with a recurring credit card charge, completing your pledge by June 30.

Cash Donations Cash or checks are a great way to make an immediate impact with your donation. Gifts are acknowledged by receipt from the University of Colorado Foundation. Please make all checks payable to the University of Colorado Foundation. Credit Cards The Buff Club accepts all major credit cards. It is important to list the name as it appears on the credit card, the account number and the expiration date on the contribution form. Online Giving The Buff Club offers the ability to make a gift online. New donors joining for the first time or existing donors looking to renew their gift should visit www.cubuffclub.com. All donors to the Buff Club have an online account. If you are visiting the site for the first time and are a current Buff Club member, please call the Buff Club office to receive your AD/customer number and verify the e-mail address linked to your account. Then go online to activate your account. All new Buff Club members can register directly online. Buff Club members are offered the opportunity to purchase CU men’s basketball season tickets. Priority seating sections in Coors Events Center require a minimum per seat contribution to the Buff Club in order to purchase seats on a season ticket basis. The seating chart reflects the areas that required a priority seating donation for the 2012-13 season. Contributions made for basketball priority seating count toward your total Buff Club annual membership level and earn priority points at the rate of one (1) point per $100. Basketball Ticket Assignments and Improvements – The Buff Club begins with the top annual giving level (Director’s Circle) and reviews all requests from those that purchase or request tickets in this category in rank order. After all the requests in this category have been processed, the Buff Club then reviews all requests from those that purchase or request season tickets in the next annual giving category in rank order. This process continues through all the giving levels until all of the available tickets have been assigned.

MAY 15 PRIORITY DEADLINE – Buff Club members who renew or donate to secure basketball season tickets by this date will receive priority consideration for additional season tickets and upgrades. Please note, due to a high renewal rate and increased demand for the 201213 season, we anticipate very limited availability in the Courtside priority seating area for the 2013-14 season. Priority seating contributions are subject to increase, and additional sections within the Coors Event Center may require minimum priority seating donations in future seasons. Members of the Buff Club staff and CU Ticket Office are available to personally assist you with selecting a season ticket location that matches your desired level of giving. To schedule an appointment, please contact the Buff Club at (303) 492-2200.

Q: How many members are there in the Buff Club? A: There are over 6,000 active Buff Club members.

Q: Who can join the Buff Club? A: All CU fans are encouraged to join the Buff Club.

Q: Can I pay Buff Club donation in installments? A: You can make monthly payments toward your Buff Club pledge. Equal monthly payments can be charged to your credit card on the 1st of each month. If your donation is tied to athletic benefits of any kind, your balance must be paid in full by June 1. Please contact a Buff Club staff member to discuss payment plan options.

Q: What are priority points? A: The Buff Club uses a priority point system to provide a fair an equitable method to reward the generosity and loyalty of supporters to Colorado student-athletes. Priority points determine athletics benefits such as priority for upgraded season ticket locations and parking, away game tickets and postseason ticket allocation.

Q: Can I transfer priority points, tickets, or parking? A: Tickets can be transferred and the Buff Club would be pleased to discuss this process with you. Unfortunately, priority points and parking cannot be transferred, as these benefits are uniquely associated with each individual donor.

Q: What is the relationship between my annual giving level and priority points? A: All Buff Club members are ranked first by their annual giving level and then by their points. For example: Donor (A) gives $2,500 annually which makes Donor (A) an All-American level donor. Donor (A) has 2,000 priority points. Donor (B) is also an All-American level donor and has 1,000 priority points. Therefore, the ranking of the All-American level would be Donor (A) in position one and donor (B) in position two. Donor (A) would be eligible to select benefits such as tickets and parking before Donor (B) in this example.
